We started having trouble with my 3 and a half year old's sleep in December of last year. She had previously been a good sleeper, would sleep through the night in the dark, and on average 11 hours a night. Then, because of a developmental leap, she became very aware of her aloneness and the dark and was all of a sudden waking up several times a night. She would wake up really freaked out, refuse to sleep without a very bright light on, she would have to have a story narrated to her on a speaker to fall back to sleep, or her father or myself would have to come in and sleep on the floor of her room.
