Our accommodations were at the Beau Rivage. It was a stunning hotel with excellent rooms. Downstairs houses their Michelin star restaurant Chat-Botte that looks over the water lake. This is a truly beautiful experience. As you expect from this type of restaurant: white linens, well organized, and excellent service. Our party of three chose the tasting menu. One thing extra we ordered was the frog legs. They were exquisite and I wish I could have a dish like this in the states. The batter was light and the legs as juicy as they come. My main dish was the venison. I believe prepared two ways. I did like my dish over the seafood option, but don't let that stop you from enjoying that delicate dish. I would love to make another trip here and maybe try their menu vegetal. I almost forgot about the bread and butter. So fresh and warm. read more

Chat-Botte was the last Michelin star restaurant I went to on my business trip. It's a beautiful restaurant filled with candlelight and flowers. The food was good but after a whole week of dining at Michelin star restaurants, I felt that the food here was better than average but just okay for a high rated restaurant. For the pre set menu I got to try the Duck Foie Gras, Winter Vegetable Ravioli emulsion with truffle oil, Swiss Veal Shank and Chocolate Grand Cru ice cream and chocolates. None of the dishes really stood out. If I had to choose I probably enjoyed the emulsion truffle vegetable ravioli the most. The group that I came with had booked our the restaurant for a company event. The service itself was beyond exceptional. Our water and wine glasses were always full and there was always someone nearby to make sure we were okay. I would love to come back to try the other dishes and see if my opinion changes. read more

Le Chat-Botté was our first dinner spot during our time here in Geneva. While the restaurant appears to be downstairs when you walk by on street level, given the logos on the windows, at least during the summertime, the restaurant is seated exclusively upstairs on the terrace on the second floor. As such, you get a look at the Old World charm of the Hotel Beau-Rivage before you make your way outdoors. The view over Lac Leman is excellent, and even though you are next to a road with a decent amount of traffic, being a floor above makes you feel like you have been transported away from the city to a more serene setting. The wine list is extensive, with one bottle running as high as 20,000(!) francs. However, the wines by the glass are actually more affordable than one might think given the general perception of Switzerland being overpriced generally; I had 2 glasses of a local white and red that came in around 15-20 francs that were both solid, if not standouts. The service here is very attentive, and although it definitely slowed once the end of the main courses came, the pace felt a bit more in-tune with our speed of eating than some of the other higher-end restaurants we have eaten at in Europe. The food choices here are pretty straightforward: you can order items a la carte; there is a standard 3- and 4-course tasting menu; or you can get have a 5- or 7-course seasonal tasting menu. We ended up going with the 5-course seasonal to see what the summer specialties would be like, and we are quite pleased to say that all the food here was quite tasty and strayed a bit from what I would typically expect from a French meal (in a good way). We started out with 2 plates of amuse bouches; the first was filled with bites presented in a different manner than usual, particularly from a textural standpoint. The parmesan-based cracker filled with a tomato cream was alright, but not as interesting as the crispy eggplant skin wrapped around basil and sesame seeds or the tomato skin that was filled with frozen tomato juice...both of those were excellently-flavored and very refreshing for a summer day. The next bite before dinner was one of my favorites of the whole meal - a summer truffle dish served with white beans and truffle sauce. The texture of the beans helped to cut through the creaminess of the rest of the dish while being an excellent canvass for the earthiness of the truffles. We were also served a brioche/croissant hybrid bread, which was very good in its own right (if not quite right for using to mop up the remains of the sauce). The 5-course meal 'officially' kicked off with 3 different seafood dishes to begin with. The first was very summery and unique - a green tomato gazpacho served with Italian shrimp, seared tuna and chunks of different melons alongside basil. The flavors worked really well together, even the melons (which I was more skeptical about). The 'side' dish that came with it was a bit more tenuous, though...it was a watermelon gelatin served with chunks of raw tuna. It looked nice, but the melon completely overpowered any flavor of the tuna...so it went a bit to waste. Next up was char served lightly seared in a carrot-based broth. The fish was cooked very lightly and delicately, which allowed the carrot to really stand out. The last seafood dish was my favorite by far, though - a sunfish that was cooked with a lot of mushrooms (chanterelle and morel) and pistachios and served in a light cream sauce that had both infused into it. While the fish was cooked well, the sturdy, earthy flavors of the nuts and the mushrooms really made each bite fulsome and delicious. We then moved onto the meat dish, which was (unsurprisingly, perhaps) a deliciously-cooked piece of duck breast served alongside whipped potatoes and shredded duck leg meat. The duck itself was a bit on the larger side, but it was cooked really well, and I enjoyed the jus it was served with - it had hints of vinegar and sugar that made it a bit more interesting than the regular au jus preparation. The whipped potatoes were very airy, but the duck leg meat was objectively more savory and better than the breast meat. We had a quick pre-dessert - rum-infused ice cream with vanilla panna cotta that was refreshing (and not your typical palate cleanser either) before finishing with a plate covered in raspberry 'dust' and layered 'cake' of sorts, with a couple of pastry-like crackers containing marshmallow-shaped cream puffs, raspberry jelly, and raspberries and raspberry sorbet on the side. I love tart fruit-based desserts, and this really delivered on all fronts. Along with having a great ambiance, the food at Le Chat-Botté was very good as well. Some things didn't quite hit the mark, but on balance, the food was very good and a bit lighter than I would usually expect for French cuisine. If you're in town, it would be worth paying a visit to have a meal here, and its location makes it very accessible to central Geneva. read more

I want to give it a 5 stars, but I can't. For the decor, the restaurant is very classically-styled, and you might feel out of place if you come in something too casual. I guess that is to be expected because I believe the place has earned one Michelin star. The service here is exceptional, as it is at the Beau-Rivage as well. Some of the dishes we ordered were very well-done and excellent, but most of them combined flavors which were not very unique in my opinion. For me, if the dish is nothing special in terms of innovation, I expect it to be perfectly executed (for this price point). I guess overall it came pretty close, but still, not perfect. Something was a little off. I also felt that each dish a little heavy, making me feel a little nauseated by the end. I was beyond impressed by their dessert, however. It was fantastic! 5/5 there. I would eat here again if I were invited, but I would rather save my money for some other places in neighboring France. read more

Service was great, the food was acceptable. I've eaten at Michelin-starred French cuisine restaurants around the world and this one I'd estimate to be on the lower range of the spectrum. We were with five people and had the seafood menu, truffle menu, the basic menu and a few choices from the menu. The seafood menu was good. The first few dishes of the Truffle menu were good but decreased in quality/taste further on. The wine selection was great and the staff was knowledgeable about the pairing. read more

Geneva has many excellent restaurants, so picking the best spot was no easy task. For French cuisine, Chat-Botte seemed to be the best, so I went ahead and made reservations (you will have to as it fills up fast). Le Chat-Botte has beautiful old world decor, with friendly staff to help you with your order. But the food was wonderful. I forgot how many plates we had, but it was least 10, with many surprises served complimentary from the chef. Frog legs, escargot, foie gras, lamb ragout, rack of lamb, and a bunch more that I can no longer recall perfectly. All I can tell you is that it was amazing. Be prepared to spend here you are in Switzerland after all. :) read more

This was my first international Michelin star. Having read quite the number of positive reviews on Trip Advisor while seeing a fairly reasonable price, I thought that this would be quite promising. Overall, this experience was nothing special and I guess I can see why it got a Michelin star, but not a restaurant I would come back to or rate too highly. To stat, I want to be fair and acknowledge that the service was great. The waiters were all very attentive to my needs and were very good at their job which was great. It wasn't the service or the menu offerings that I had a problem with. It was the food, which really paled in comparison to other Michelins that I've been to. I ordered the Sea menu which consists of sea bass an spider crab, monkfish, cod, and fresh thai mango. Amuse bouches were great. Nice seafood paste with some raw fish on a rice chip. Really quite delicious. After that was a beautifully decorated egg with some truffle oil which was quite fantastic. The sea bass was quite good and an interesting combination of flavors thought easily became al little too heavy after the second one. It was all stacked very intricately and well presented, but I just don't feel like the flavors complemented each other very well. You would think that with lemon caviar, you might be able to simulate something close to a tangy ceviche effect, but in fact, the combination of these fishy elements with the lemon caviar actually ended up being very tart and not so appetizing. I just felt like I was eating something extremely fishy while each flavor really contradicted each other. It was the spidercrab I think that I had a problem with. Something about the way it was marinated was just not so great. The monkfish was decent. Not too much to complain about that. Well cooked with very plain and clean flavors made it to be quite an enjoyable experience. I think my issue with the cod was that after the monkfish, I felt like the preset needed to do something different than just serving me another slab of a giant fish. Part of this you could argue is my fault in the ordering, but I just feel like with a prefix you need to take the diner on a journey, and serving two slabs of fish, though very different, simply doesn't quite contribute to an exciting dining experience. Even though the cuts of the fish and the way they were served was different, it just all started to taste very much the same to me. The dessert was quite good though and I was very impressed with that. They also gave me a complimentary chocolate soufflé which was fantastic. I was really impressed with the dessert. The thai magno was great and ended my meal quite well. tldr; it wasn't a bad experience, just not one worthy of the price it commanded. An amazing old school restaurant which everyone should experience something like this once in their life. My wife and I speak very little French and the service staff at all times were very pleasant to us and did their best to speak to us in English at all times. The food was amazing, as nice as I have ever experienced however it clearly come with a big price tag (dinner for 2 will most likely cost about 500 swiss francs). Our amuse bouche was great and really left us excited for more. The Pheasant Ravioli was great, probably the best ravioli I have ever tasted and my wife had the Spider crab and Lobster. Exceptional. We had the Veal steak which was good (but not at the level of the other dishes) and the Sea Bass which again was great. A great dinner and experience which you will pay for but worth a try if you haven't tried Swiss/French cuisine of this level before. read more
