We didn't expect much because it's so touristy but it was better than we were prepared for. Very nice experience dining here, while sitting in their outdoor, covered area, watching people walk by and listening to a guitarist playing classical and Spanish music! Wonderful! We started with the area's famous Skagen Toast, which is North Sea shrimps, mayonnaise, dill, sourdough bread. The shrimp salad really makes this good, and I like the sour dough bread instead of rye. Next dish was the Tagliolini ai Gamberoni pasta with shrimps, tomatoes, white wine, garlic, chili. Oh my! So good! And the chili have it just the right amount of zing. Last dish was the Moules Frites: line caught blue mussels, cream, white wine, onions, garlic, herbs, fries, aioli. Quite a large pot of mussels with a nice broth. I encourage you to try this place. We enjoyed it a lot. My only warning is if you don't like eating near people who smoke, choose you're seat wisely. read more

The service was pleasant and our drinks and food came out timely. I had the Fish and Chips with Mushy Peas. The fish, chips and tarter sauce were great. I was not a fan of the cold mushy peas. Ambience was amazing. Nice and sunny, and lots of outdoor seating. Waiter was polite and available. Ordered Skagen Toast for appetizer. Very good. The mayo made the dish. Toast was kinda loaded with shrimp though, so not enough toast proportionally, but still good. Caviar was nice, but I'm not sure I could even taste it through the other ingredients haha Ordered Linguini agli Scampi for entree. Good. Pasta was perfect, but prawns were pretty hefty, so I couldn't really put them in the same bite. Ordered pavlova for dessert. Awesome. The food is quite good, it's the service that drops this rating. First the food, I had the linguine with shrimp. The pasta was fresh, shrimp delicious in a white wine sauce with herbs. I opened up with the sourdough bread. Small plate, but good. I also had a lemonade. Now the service. Slow would be polite. If you have to find the server to get another lemonade and bread something is wrong. Even after that it still took a bit of time. How bad? I finished the meal before seeing another lemonade, which I'm confident isn't made one glass at a time. Havfruen is a fish restaurant on one of Copenhagen's most busy tourist destination streets - the Nyhavn canal. We had spent our day exploring the city, and this was a great place to eat and relax at the end of the day. I had planned a specific restaurant to visit, but since we didn't know our timing, we couldn't book, and when we got there, it was full. So we wandered along the wide range of restaurants looking for one. This place was busy, but we managed to get a table with only a short wait. There is indoor space at the restaurant (which we did not see), but there are lots of tables out on the street, with a view of the scenic canal, and with covering to reduce sun or rain. Staff were friendly and service was prompt, although food took quite a while to arrive and some of us had to leave to put the child to bed while I stayed behind to pay. The menu was mostly seafood and had a good range of choices, with a couple of non-fish options. The food costs were pricey, not surprising given the location, but not ridiculous. I started with the Skagen Toast (a Danish classic) which was great. A famous Danish delicacy that was done well. I could have eaten several of these and just had that for dinner. My wife had the Salmon Tartare, which was good. For main course I had the Fish and Chips - great chips, ok fish. My wife had the lobster, which was very good. Our friend had the pasta, also good. Overall, this was a very good experience. Decent food, great view and environment, only let down by slow service on what was clearly a busy night. read more

It was a great place to eat after a long summer day in the sun. The Restaurant is particularly good with their seafood. Specifically, the oysters left me wanting to drain my wallet dry of funds. Unfortunately, service was a bit slow. I would say that their seafood ingredients themselves were amazing but their dishes were overall just okay. Just want to finish my review that's been sitting in my draft's folder. My boyfriend and I went to Restaurant Havfruen on New Year's Eve and ordered the pre-fixe menu. It was a multi-course meal, with wine pairings for each dish. The food was okay - heavily seafood based. The wine, however, was great. The placement of the restaurant for the fireworks spectacle was excellent. I probably wouldn't come back here for the food, but for the excitement of being right on Nyhavn. read more

It's located in a row of twenty some odd restaurants on the waterfront and is one of the big tourist attractions in town. The restaurant here is small with a bit of outdoor seating. The menu is small and mostly seafood. I had the mussels and they were quite ok and I enjoyed it. Prices were also ok and reasonable for Copenhagen. Service was good and generally ok. I was out an about in the Havfruen area and started to lurk on Yelp which doesn't seem to be too strong in Denmark, but as an American what the heck else do I know. I picked this place based on a few good reviews and the fact that they would take my Corporate American Express. I know that is NOT a good reason to pick a restaurant, but when your on the road for 9 days, trust me you will barely remember where you ate, what you ate and where you stayed so a direct bill is a good thing. So the place is a little bit above average but spendy and the portions are pretty small. I ended up with a the fish soup, recommended, not the best I have have but above average for sure. Then I had a grilled salmon, which was nice but the portion was about 1/2 of what I would normally grill for myself or would be served. I asked for a greens salad which filled out the meal. The salmon was supposed to be wild but tasted about what i expected from farmed, what can I say, I live on the west coast and I am spoiled for King and Coho Salmon. Overall a pretty good meal but with one beer (nice wheat beer, local and awesome) it was nearly $80 for one person. I am getting the idea that while the Danish Kroner made me feel like this was going to be a bargain to be in, the numbers make it pretty expensive. How about dropping a digit off those to make the math easiers? read more

The pasta my daughter had was supposed to be reduced in wine, however she tried it and it tasted extremely strange and smelled of alcohol due to undercooking of the wine. One of the waitresses said they might be able to squeeze us in as long as we left by 9:30 pm because they had a reservation. The dining room was almost completely empty the entire night. The menu was small and plain and we all ate bland, dry fish with vegetables and fries. After Exploring the city we decided to eat at Havfruen in Nyhavn. We sat outside and got some blankets against the cold wind. There were also heaters so we didn't feel cold and were still able to enjoy the atmosphere at Nyhavn. It's a fish restaurant and although I can't have any seafood (allergies), I found something on the menue. And the dessert! Oh my god the dessert! We had a fantastic Mousse au chocolate and an incredible rhurbarb trifle! It was soooo good! And the service was super nice! If you are looking for a cute place at the harbor to have some excellent (sea) food and really good service stop at the Havfruen restaurant. read more

We count ourselves luck for having not been able to get a table at another fish restaurant up the street as our meal at Havfruen was absolutely fantastic. Was in Copenhagen September 4th and had lunch here. The staff were friendly and spoke good English. Had sliders, one crab cake which was good and one monk fish which was excellent. My wife had open face sandwich with a white fish that was also excellent. They gave me a sample of aquavit which I thought must be acquired taste and is the only thing I didn't enjoy at the restaurant. Everything else from the cappuccino to the fries were great. read more
