    My very green pasta

One of the best ways to spend my birthday day. I got to see amazing views of Wien City, Danube river, and eat fantastic food. The tower is nice but super windy outside (May). We took many pictures. But the restaurant was the highlight. Most days and times you need a reservation. I recommend you to check their website and book your reservation to the restaurant. We tried to book the reservation the night before and the restaurant was completely booked. So, we did the sneaky way to a reservation by saying we accidentally booked for the next week and we won't even be here because we are tourists etc. Anyways, the hostess bought our lame story. Yay, and I got to celebrate my bday in style. The service was spot on. Our server was super attentive. Explained the menu and the many options. The bread they start off with was amazing and came with different types of butter etc. I had a vegetarian pasta which had a unique green sauce. The pasta was light and delightful. The hubs had a yummy broiled fish entree with veggies. For my birthday dessert I had chocolate mousse with fruits on the side which was a hit as well. Great restaurant to go on vacation, special occasion, or just because... ~

I decided to come here by myself 3 weeks ago after I'd already gone up the Danube Tower. The revolving café and the revolving restaurant are located higher than the outside observation deck! Café is one level below. I treated myself to lunch though at the restaurant since it was a dining experience I couldn't miss at 170 meters up in the air, in the tallest building in all of Austria! Since it's a revolving restaurant, the area where customers are seated gives you a continual 360° panoramic view. No bad seat in this restaurant! I didn't know it was a revolving restaurant till I sat down. There are signs that indicate where you are as it rotates. Takes about half an hour for a full rotation I believe, so you don't actually notice it moving much as you dine. Middle of restaurant where kitchen and most staff are doesn't move. Staff was attentive. I wasn't sure what to order originally and waitress was good at giving me recommendations. I wanted some veggies since traditional Austrian food contains so much meat. Ordered the minced veal butter schnitzel on smashed potato, sautéed asparagus, and lemon thyme jus. I also ordered a dessert originally, but they let me cancel it since I was so full from everything else. I was surprised (and happy) to find everything decently priced. Waitress was also kind enough to take a picture for me when I asked (not shown). 10/10 would recommend if you find yourself in Vienna for the views alone! If not the restaurant, then the café! Much nicer than outside on the cold and windy observation deck, that's for sure.

The view was amazing! The restaurant spins around itself and that's so cool! The food was great, a bit pricey but very tasty! You have to make a reservation ahead! The decor of the restaurant was outdated. Not too fancy, no dress code (not for the lunch, maybe at the evening time), enjoy!

TL;DR version: Good food, excellent service and stunning views without the high price tag you might expect. I set the bar for a 5* rating pretty high, but based on our experience here they totally earned it. We were in Vienna for 3 nights and had already decided to concentrate on seeing the sights rather than upmarket dining, but Restaurant im Donauturm provided the opportunity to do both at the same time so it made it on to our itinerary. It was cold and we decided it wasn't close enough to the closest U bahn to walk to from the station so we grabbed an Uber from Josefstadt (€11 each way). We arrived fairly late and with no reservation, entered through the shop and bought our lift tickets to the observation deck (€7 each with Vienna card I think). Once we were finished on the observation deck we climbed several staircases to reach the restaurant and after a few minutes waiting at the desk we were shown to our seats. The decor was nice, clean and classy in a classic way. As you would expect the windows were wall to ceiling all the way around to take full advantage of the panoramic experience. I've never been in a rotating restaurant before, it seemed a little bit like something from a movie but it works really well here. It's unobtrusive enough for you to not realise while you still get the benefit of an ever changing vista across the city. The floor rotates while the interior wall and ceiling are fixed. Spaced around the ceiling are markers telling you which area you are looking at. One full turn takes 26 minutes. I was worried this place might be a bit of a one trick pony, serving average food and compensating with above average views but it wasn't the case. Everything we ordered was tasty and well presented. My only criticism would be the lack of vegetarian options, but it's the same everywhere, at least they had something. Service was faultless, our waiter was attentive without being intrusive and when we chatted to him and asked questions he couldn't have been more friendly. We asked him to take some photos for us and he took the time to make sure we had a few shots and that we were happy with them once he had finished. I wish I had made a note of his name so I could have given him a shout out, he really made the experience and is a credit to the staff. I got a surprise when the bill arrived, a good surprise. I was expecting to pay €€€€ for the food, service and view but it was no more than I would pay in a normal restaurant. Highly(!) recommended.

The place was huge inside, bigger than expected from the outside. It was packed with people in a good way and the decor was tasteful and inviting. The wait staff were really friendly and attentive and visited just often enough to make sure we had what we needed. The food was great, and the classic schnitzel was massive but thin enough that it didn't feel overwhelming to eat. I paired it with the potato salad that included greens and both were excellent. If you're getting the schnitzel I suggest the longenberry preserve because the schnitzel itself is on the blander side.

We had a reservation which we highly recommend getting as the line outside was very long. The ambiance was perfect with lighting the wasn't overwhelming and a layout that made the restaurant feel intimate and cozy. Next time we're in Vienna, we will absolutely be back. Don't miss the chance to eat here while in the city.

Food dreams can be restored in future nights to come. I guess I just did not care what anyone thought. I took pics anyway. I just thought I was being sensitive to other patrons. Let's just say I tried to not be too obnoxious about it. So, yes I did consume with my camera first! I can say with absolute certainty, that this was our most perfect and intimate dining experience in Vienna. It was just lunch! The surrounding patrons appeared to be locals with huge platters of piping hot Wienerschnitzel, succulent looking meat falling off the bone....oh my, I could go on and on. Lord help me, that was a great experience. I ordered an exquisite Riesling that was perfect with my meal. I ordered the Goose Soup to start with. I shake my head now in disbelief of how perfect this soup was and LUSCIOUS. It had this potato dumpling in the middle that absorbed the creamy broth with every single bite. I was sad to see the dumpling and soup go away as I savored every spoonful. My husband had a potato soup that included mushrooms and he was pretty much freaking out about his soup as much as I was (in his own, subdued, calm manner....opposite mine!). Then Meine Damen und Herren. We have the Weinerschnitzel. Oh my goodness. We split the massive and simply prepared veal weinerschnitzel with the lemon wedge squeezing the only and perfect seasoning you need for this deliciousness in front of you. I cannot even express the greatness of the potato salad that accompanies. Smooth and creamy mustardy goodness. I would seek out this restaurant again. If every authentic Keller type dining experience is this good in Vienna; I am in big trouble!

It had an extremely authentic feel (full of old guys drinking beer, which I took as a good sign). I got the goose soup, which was incredible. Our waiter spoke enough English to get by with us, and they had an English menu available.
