Viennese hot dog, Blue Bar Vienna

The Restaurant Rote Bar, is a fine dining restaurant located in the Sacher Hotel in Vienna. The ambience is warm and elegant, however, we found the lunch menu limited, and the Schnitzel very dissappointing; it was all fried batter with no veal. The mini parsley buttered potatoes were delicious but that is not sufficient reason to dine here. Recommended with caution. In the same hotel, you have the famous "Blue Bar" which serves a delicious "Sacher" sausage which is great with a cocktail. Highly recommended.

Located inside Hotel Sacher Restaurant Rote Bar oozes with history, its all-red interior, oil paintings and crystal chandeliers coupled to formal service and Viennese classics such as Tafelspitz and the eponymous Sacher Torte. Adjacent Vienna's State Opera, an open terrace offering views of a gathering pre-show crowd, it is after warm greetings that guests are offered velvet seats and white linens plus a choice of Beverages followed by warm Focaccia. Served a la carte, modern compositions made from seasonal Ingredients alongside plates with history, it is after a nightly amuse that Appetizers range from Wedding Soup to Asparagus Risotto, though fans of Foie Gras should not overlook the Goose Liver Tarte which pairs beautifully to sweet Riesling. A leisurely meal intended to be savored, the clientele's average age eclipsing sixty, Entrees feature tableside service ranging from Sauce poured over Braised Beef to plating Tafelspitz while Sacher's Wiener Schnitzel arrives perfectly prepared in two cuts large enough to share. Accompanied by Piano in the damask room after 19h00, the sun slowly setting through tall windows, Dessert includes ideas old and new though the Chocolate Torte with a layer of Apricot justifiably seems to find its way onto every table.

Impeccable service, old world elegance, and classic Viennese dishes with a few modern interpretations to spice things up. This historic gem inside the legendary Hotel Sacher is a must-visit establishment for the ambiance as much as the fine dining.

What a lovely evening. Fabulous food- service- atmosphere. Plus live piano music. I highly recommend.

Extra sweets not ordered, just part of the 5 treatment here at Red Bar

Hard act to follow. High marks in comparison to other restaurants in this category. The veal was paper thin and perfect coated crust: lightly crunchy. Veggies cooked just right. Several extras like an amuse-bouche, perfect bread and a tray of sweets. Tea & coffee were flavorful and right temperature. Service was as if we were royalty! Beautiful rooms, live piano (not loud!) comfy chairs. Not cheap but reasonable for what it is. Cheers & fireworks for making us fall in love with Red Bar.

This place was packed…read morewhen we arrived, as expected since it is one of the most well-known schnitzel spots in Vienna. I was worried this place was over-hyped and more of a place you have to "check off the list" than somewhere you want to eat because of the food. If you have any doubts like I did, forget about them because this was actually the best schnitzel we had on our trip! Their potato salad and tomato salads, also amazing! I love that they had option for their schnitzel - the chicken and original were our favorites! Definitely check this spot out when in Vienna - you won't be disappointed!

This is probably one of the most popular schnitzel restaurants in all of Vienna. Do not come…read morewithout a reservation unless you're prepared to stand outside for quite some time. I had a reservation at 11:30am and there was already an insane line just to get in. Then once they opened the doors other groups of people completely ignore the line outside and just start rushing in. They're in absolutely no rush to seat you so don't have any hope that they'll let you in early. Once you're seated the service is pretty fast. The schnitzel is quite large and good for sharing. I had the original schnitzel with pork. It was thin and crispy but under seasoned in my opinion. The potato salad was the star for me I could have had one all to myself. It was creamy, a little sweet, and tangy. I also tried the soup with clear beef broth and sliced pancakes. Nothing memorable but a nice clean soup if you're in the mood.

Menus and bread serving arrived. $4.80 per person. Oh well. We decided to share and we selected the white asparagus with a tomato and egg relish with a vinaigrette and an Order of Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad and lingonberries. Our food arrived very quick. Both dishes quite good. Not the best we have experienced in Vienna and not the worst. - Wiener Schnitzel: best one of the week. It was thin as it should be and not greasy at all. Wish it had been cooked with a little seasoning. Salt and fresh lemon solved that problem. 4/5 - Potato Salad: excellent. Almost addictive. Loved the fresh mache and pumpkin seed oil on it. 5/5 - Cranberry Sauce: or as I call it lingonberry sauce. Average. Tasted like out of a jar. But good. 4/5 - White Asparagus: served with a tomato herb vinaigrette with chopped egg. Wish the asparagus had been served warm then topped with the vinaigrette. Would made the dish pop. Very good. 4/5 - Atmosphere: Outside was glorious. Area was spacious. 5/5 - Service: waiter was abrupt and would disappear for lengthy times. Must have been really busy inside. 3/5 - Value: somewhat overpriced. Think the mandatory $4.80 bread service per person put it over the top. I expected outstanding bread and got a very small serving of bread and a pad of butter with a couple of tablespoons of a herb mixture.
