So far the food I've had in Barcelona has been a bit of a let-down, but the Ziti here was incredible. The pasta wasn't what I expected (as an American), but it was absolutely amazing. The veal was incredibly tender in an oniony, garlicky sauce. For 17 Euro, the portions were very big, with tons of meat plus fresh Parmesan on top? Sign me up. Get reservations or be prepared to wait. Has a good pizza joint vibe with the full old school over experience. The pizza crust was not my favorite. It was very thin and moist. It's a knife and fork type pizza. You can't pick it up and fold in half. But, the flavors were on point! Fresh ingredients that you could taste. Wife had a pasta dish that was also good. Dining at Spaccanapoli turned out to be a tale of two cities. We ordered two entrees: one excellent while the other, a total dud. One the one hand, the codfish (bacalao) casserole was extremely flavorful, a thing of beauty. The tomato sauce, accompanying the casserole, was truly wonderful. One the other hand, the Milanese-style entrecôte just bombed. Visually speaking, it looked great and turned out be highly instagrammable (see accompanying photo). But looks can be deceiving! It was undercooked, flavorless, and accompanied by lackluster fries. To be fair though, I'm assuming most patrons order their pastas and pizzas, and we had neither. Most reviews seemed to be quite favorable when considering these traditional Italian delicacies. So steer clear of the Milanese-style entrecôte! Service was perfunctory and impersonal. read more

It was a bit out of our way, but after reading the reviews, we decided to go for it. There is plenty of seating and service was fast and friendly. The pizza crust is terrific, with a lot of good topping combinations on the menu. Very authentic Italian style pizza. We each ordered a pizza and couldn't finish the generous sized pies. For dessert, the classic tiramisu was our choice and didn't disappoint. They also offer additional interesting flavors. This restaurant is a cool little spot and was well worth the drive. This restaurant was near our hotel and we were in the mood for pizza, so we thought we'd give it a whirl. We were seated immediately upon arrival and given menus. Almost as soon as we were seated, a waiter dropped 2 beers at our table. We looked at each other and then at home and said we hadn't ordered anything yet. He apologized, picked them up and brought them to the table next to us. no big deal. A waitress then came by and took a drink order, then the same waiter then served us. I ordered the Diavola Pizza..tomato sauce, spicy sausage, basil and mozzarella. It was very good...not the best I've ever had, but not the worst. My dining companion ordered the Calzone Pizza....it's crust was burnt to the point where only the middle of the pizza could be eaten. We were both surprised that it would even be served, but it was late and he was hungry, so we didn't make an issue of it. He said the centre part was flavorful. We went back 2 days later and the food was much better. We both had pizzas again and they were cooked to perfection. My wife and I arrived in Barcelona yesterday morning and had some tapas, paella, and other local dishes. Tonight we just wanted some simple pizza for dinner. We found a place on TripAdvisors and took a cab there. When we arrived that place sold slices but had no seating. We walked around the corner and found another Italian restaurant that was also a pizzeria. We walked in and saw a full place. The maître d told us it would be a thirty minute wait. We walked out but decided to return because it looked so nice. My wife waited outside in the cool December night while I went in to talk to the Matre'd. I asked if we should return in 30 minutes. He was very busy but said I should just wait by the bar. He then went to get my wife and told her to come out of the cold and go to the bar. Soon after he found us a table! I was bewildered but happy. Our server Francesca was right on us. We ordered ricotta stuffed zucchini flowers tempura and pizza Dela Casa ( tomato sauce, mozzarella, Parmesan, eggplant and basil ). I ordered a local red wine ( delisch). The zucchini was wonderful! Crisp Light batter, not greasy, with a great smooth creamy interior. Then cane the pizza. OMG. Not like any We have ever had. The dough was so tender it melted in your mouth while the sauce and cheeses were just right along with the sprinkle of eggplant and basil. We both devoured the whole pie! We finished off with the tiramisu dessert. All three dishes were some of the best we've ever had!!. We weren't starving before we came either. We had tapas and drinks just a few hours earlier. I was so impressed with the hospitality, smiling service and great food. Gorgeous pizza oven to boot. Really a destination place. We're going back this trip! The maître'ds name is Daniel. I had to hug him before I left. And he hugged us back too. read more
