This restaurant had live music in the cellar so we thought it would be a good place to try. It is close to our hotel on the Old Square. The service was fine and the ambiance lovely. We enjoyed the music. My friend ordered the strong chicken broth soup and reported it was delicious. I ordered the goulash because I wanted a traditional dish. When presented, it looked great. The sauce was delicious. The meat was so tough as to be nearly inedible. A second waitress picked up the dishes and asked how the meal was as I had hardly eaten any of it. I told her that the meat was hard and not good. She apparently did not report that to our actual waitress. In short, I do not recommend any of the three goulash dishes at this restaurant. read more

Such an incredible location right in the Old Town Square. I had a Frappe and Apple strudel while sitting outside and people watching as well as soaking in Old Town's allure. The strudel was warm and plates beautifully with a dollop of cream topped with a mint and on the opposite site a scoop of vanilla bean icecream. A friend mentioned restaurants in cellars in Old Town Square and came across this restaurant. I tried a bite of everyone's meal, and everything was delicious. My favorites were the duck breast and the salmon tagliatelle. We also tried several desserts and the honey cake was the favorite! There was live music and at 2130 we were only one of 2 tables. The server was friendly and was very helpful with recommendations. I would definitely go again the next time I visit Prague. read more

We stopped here for a drink in the evening, and the cocktails were really good, and the restaurant is centrally located with good piazza views. The only turnoff was when waiters were begging/pushing for you to tip a certain amount, even though tipping is discretionary, so you can tip whatever you think is right... and asking for a tip is such an ugly thing to me. Leave customers alone, and you'll probably get tipped better that way. read more

My friend waved at the waiters 4 times with her hand then had to proceed to wave the menu multiple times to no avail. I understand if the restaurant is busy, but acknowledgement , a nod, or hand gesture would have sufficed. We ordered the goulash 4/10: bland, portion size was good, beef was tough . Pork knuckle was "drier" than previously 6/10. Then the waiter insisted on a 10-15% tip even when service was lacking. At first glance, the restaurant looked a little gimmicky. There was a ~$4 charge for tap water and all of the food items had some of the highest prices I had seen in Prague. The location, however, was great. It was located right in the Old Town Square with beautiful views of the Astronomical Clock and other monuments in the area. I decided on the roasted duck breast as my brother had recommended it to me. I also got the White Horse cocktail. The duck was probably the best I have ever had and the cocktail was great too. It could not have been cooked better and the sauces and sides complemented the meat perfectly. Everything else about the restaurant was below average, especially the service. The funniest part is that the waiter, who was barely present at all and not helpful in the least bit asked me if I wanted to take part in the tipping service. This restaurant is located in Old Town Square (right near the infamous Olorj clock) where we were seated outside (blankets and heat lamps were provided). This is an absolute gem if you want to escape from the crowds, the noise, the heat, and the hustle and bustle of Prague's Old Town area; and enjoy a quiet, comfortable, and relaxing lunch in a medieval and romantic environment. White Horse is located in the cellar (basement) of a medieval 12th century structure, which, according to the restaurant's website, is listed by UNESCO as a historical building. The interior of the restaurant is classically designed and the ambience is nothing short of breathtaking. What about the food? DUCK CONFIT: The meat was tender, flavorful, and moist - just like it was cooked in its own juice and fat. This confit was much better than the one we had the previous day at Imperial Café (see separate review). To make this dish even better, it came with a serving of freshly mashed potatoes that was slightly chunky, creamy, buttery, and delicious. CHICKEN SCHNITZEL: Although I found the schnitzel thicker than it should be, (at least compared with schnitzels from other European places), I was happy with the thin and crispy layer of the breading, as well as the tender and moist chicken breast meat. This was truly an exceptional experience. From the atmosphere to the service, to the incredible food, the White Horse balances beauty and elegance with warmth and comfort. Our family of 5 (kids 13, 11, and 7) each loved our food, as well as the food we shared with each other. While there was no kid menu, the food is approachable, yet elevated. My husband's salmon was delicate and perfectly paired with a light sauce, vegetables and mashed potatoes. My goulash stew in a fresh-baked bread bowl was divine. My daughter loved her "big burger", and my sons loved their spicy sausage and ribs. The ribs may be some of the best I've ever tried, and I've had them in Memphis and Texas. The seating inside feels like a movie set it is so beautiful, and it was originally a cellar from the 12th century. We were also treated to some of the best acoustic guitar jazz I've ever heard, as if the experience could get any better. After a week of family vacationing over seas, we were so tired of over-priced mediocrity. This restaurant was so close to the center of the old town that we were sure it would be another tourist trap. It absolutely is not! If I lived here, I could see this easily being my favorite place for a family meal, a group of friends, or a romantic date night. I simply can't say enough about how amazing everything was at the White Horse! We may have to visit Prague again, just to eat here again. read more

Popped in here on two occasions,for lunch and for an evening meal. Met with very friendly, jovial, staff both times. Service was exceptional at a very reasonable price. Nice to sit at an 'outside' table, with blankets to keep out the cold, people watching and listening to the music coming from the square. We sat ourselves outside on the patio and the waiters were quick to bring us menus. It's a dressy casual type of vibe on the outside, the inside definitely seems nicer with the wine cellar look & feel. The patio was a decent size and had perfect views of the old town square which was filled with people at that time. The alcohol and food is over priced but you are in a really touristy area and paying for that. I had the Chardonnay and my friend had their hard cider for drinks. The White Horse Prague has the best location but unfortunately an EXTREMELY RUDE server named Peter. First we asked if could sit at a different table with a little shade under the canopy and he said "no" with extreme attitude. He told me that it is ok with my color "I have medium/dark skin tone). Being in the beautiful city, we just ignored him and continued to take in the views of the beautiful buildings. My husband and I placed our order and when we received our order, my order was completely wrong. Peter argued with me that is what I ordered and I told him I read the menu (in English) and ordered something that I could eat with my dietary restriction. He went in the back and came back a minute later with my correct order, which had cheese. When I tried to tell him it had cheese he walked away. I had to repeatedly call him and get his attention. He came and told me that "maybe you are having a bad day Madam". I told him that I am grateful to be in beautiful Prague and I am having a blessed day! He told me that I must be too hungry/angry! I asked him his name and he muttered "Peter" as he walked away. I went and spoke with him because I can't believe that any customer could be treated this way. I told him that I did not appreciate his rude attitude and asked to speak with a supervisor/manager and he said there is no manager here. I asked 2 other workers and they also said there is no manager on duty. At that point I was ready to walk away and enjoy the rest of my day but Peter smirked we have high ratings...that was ENOUGH!!! Location is supposedly at prime spot since it's in the Prague Old Town. Service was subpar; specifically, we arrived earlier than our reservation, and the waiter initially didn't want to take us to our requested sitting downstairs. After we finished our dinner, the waiter who served us asked us to leave because he needs our table to set up for another big reservation even there are many empty tables. His excuse was the other waiter didn't know the table we sat down was going to be for a large group coming at 19:00 when the live music starts right across from our table. He obviously didn't want us to occupy the prime spot for live music since we had finished our dinner rather fast. I don't know what he would have done if we didn't eat so fast. What upset me most is that he suggested to tip 10-15% and I gave 15% based on the okay service he and another female server provided earlier (I.e. before he asked us to leave). Food was okay.
