The wait at Taco Escobar was too long for impatient and hungry me, so we decided to swing by El Corazon! We were seated immediately and our server was great. I ordered the spicy mango marg which was a good level of kick! The shrimp burrito was exactly what I was craving - crispy shrimp, guac, fresh veg. Everything came out quickly although I have heard if you order the birria it can be a wait. I would definitely return here to try more food and margaritas!

I've been checking in for years, but last review was some time ago. Has anything changed? NO! Not only the best in the city, but coming here is like going home. It was just the two of us...don't judge the amount of food and drink! Thank you! Mujere Laura made it all happen! Mucho gusto!! We feel like family at every visit! P.S. Thanks for fixing our tamales order disaster,Laura!! Viaje seguro en su teip para ver a su madre. disfruta del clima cálido

El Corazon is one of my husband's and my favorite restaurants in Portland. We moved to the area a few months ago and the staff has been extremely welcoming and friendly, especially Ulysses and Orion. The service is always fabulous with great recommendations. It is a cute place in a good location, however the staff is what truly sets this restaurant apart. Our favorite tacos are the lengua, cabeza, birria, and fish. We also really enjoyed the fajitas. It's hard to find good lengua and cabeza tacos so I really appreciate the diversity of the menu.

Solid Mexican food! Friendly staff. Crispy cooked quesadillas and hearty stuffed burritos. Note: Bad Hombre burrito is not at all spicy, my partner reported twice. It does have diced fresh jalepenos inside it.

Food was not the best, drinks were good. Service was fast and had no wait. For the price I thought I would expect more.

We were craving Mexican food & needed a place that was dog friendly. I called & they said the patio is dog friendly up until 6pm. Perfect! It was about 2:30pm so we were past the lunch rush but service still seemed a little slow. We got the variety taquitos & sundevil combination plate. The taquitos were really good, really fresh & crispy! On the combo plate we got the pork tamale, el pastor taco, pollo mole enchiladas. I don't know if it's that I've been on such a limited diet & avoiding foods like this that everything tasted really good! I would say the tamale was our least favorite, a little thick & dense. And pretty cheap too! I think our bill was $35

We were craving Mexican on a Friday and decided to finally try out El Corazon after a friend recommended it. I am so glad we did! It honestly exceeded our expectations and we cannot wait to go back soon. Pro-trip: COME HUNGRY! As soon as you walk inside El Corazon, you can tell it's an authentic Mexican spot, which is so refreshing to find here in Maine. The menu is not your typical Mexican-American menu -- they really go all out by not only having your Mexican staples (tacos, burritos, etc) but also some very unique dishes that I wasn't expecting to find in Portland. I was also impressed with their cocktail menu. It was very nice to see most cocktails priced between $8-$11; you don't often see any anymore in a city's downtown area. 5 stars for keeping it affordable, El Corazon! After stuffing our faces with the free chips & salsa, we were ready to order. I went for the Birria de Chivito and it was delicious. This dish from Jalisco, Mexico consisted of young tender goat slow cooked for 7 hours (!!!) in a mild red Chile sauce with Mexican spices. Everything about this dish was perfect. It was so full of flavor and aromas that transcended what my palate was expecting. It came with a side of rice, beans, and tortillas aka way too much food, so I had leftovers which made for a nice dinner the next day. I also tried the pork pozole, which was a steal for under $6. So filling! The tortillas were phenomenal and they give you so many of them. The queso fundido was also a hit -- it was one of the best ones I've ever had. My partner had the Sundevil Carne Asada plate and he said he liked it, but I found the meat to be a bit bland and chewy. I am glad I ordered the goat and not the steak, honestly. All in all, great food in a very casual setting which we actually enjoyed. Service was definitely all over the place, but you can tell they are severely understaffed at the moment, so kindness is key. Our waiter was also the bartender for the night, and in total there were only two people serving the whole restaurant.

My husband and I came here on a Thursday night and it was really busy and happening! Staff was friendly and prompt and we loved the decor. The skinny margarita was delicious and we enjoyed the chips appetizer, although we didn't love the salsa. My husbands California burrito was delicious and the quesadilla was also amazing (especially with the sour cream and guacamole). Portions are large and we had leftovers. Overall great spot to check out if in the area!

Located on Forest avenue, I have passed several times and have seen people outside sitting and enjoying food. It looks like a nice spot . The close proximity to my home for delivery was another reason for choosing them. Ordered via Uber Eats made selection of tacos super easy. Clear pictures and descriptions of each taco type was very helpful. We chose two house tacos one beef the other carnitas. The Bahn mi and the Al pastor. Also ordered the street corn appetizer. Food arrived after 20 minutes and was semi cold. Hubby enjoyed his two house tacos but was left still hungry. The corn was nasty! Cold and mushy took two bites and threw it away. Definitely an item that should only be eaten there as it did not travel wall. The Bahn mi was delicious, the Al pastor was shredded meat and super spicy. After three bites and could not tolerate any more. Gave to my still hungry man. I will have to go there at least once although where does one park to go there? When I go I'll probably have the Bahn mi and the fish taco.

I could've done without the lettuce in the burrito, and I did remove 1 star because it was falling apart when I got home and I ended up having to use my own (store bought) tortilla, which was disappointing after paying $17 for a burrito. Even so, everything was super flavorful! Tacos would be my recommendation to others. I also very much appreciate that the food is all authentic and handmade, they had picnic tables in the shade for seating, and the chef was welcoming and happy to explain the menu options.

I have heard great things and was really hoping they had pupusas available on the truck... but no such luck. Only tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. That's ok because the very kind gentleman on the truck made the 3 Amigos sound really good! It's one pork, one beef, and one chicken taco on homemade tortillas with the standard fixings - onion, cilantro, guac, and salsa. I will say that the homemade tortillas are very good, though different than most I've had. They are soft to the point of almost being creamy? Very very rich, reminded me of the base of a sope. The meats were absolutely delicious and grilled and full of flavor. I loved both the pork and the beef, though the fattiness could've used an extra lime or two. I took one bite of the chicken taco and got a couple little bones, so I didn't eat the rest of that one. The sauces were good, though I was told one of the sauces was VERY VERY hot and I didn't detect a lot of spiciness from it. I think overall, I could've used double garnish, double lime, and a lot of extra heat. There are no prices on the board so I was thinking three tacos would come to like $10 - $12. Turns out they are $20 before tax, holy moley. I admit that my expectations were high before I even took a bite, because that price point is a little crazy. I am super curious about the brick and mortar because I'm sure it's a different experience with the food truck. These tacos were definitely tasty enough to do some more research!

This weekend I took my best friend and it was perfect, even in the middle of winter. The deck is still open with plenty of space heaters and even heated seat cushions. We actually got so warm we had to peel off layers, which feels like a small miracle in Maine. The two of us love a marg & taco outing, and make a point to scope out the best of the best. We started with chips and salsa and some queso, which were the perfect kickoff. Then we ordered the street corn succotash, my absolute favorite. It's packed with flavor and topped with the most delicious, salty cotija cheese that pulls everything together. I crave that dish. We split the smoked brisket tacos and the smoked pork carnitas tacos, and both were outstanding. The meat was smoky and tender, the flavors were bold without being overdone, and every bite delivered. And the margaritas? Excellent and refreshing. Exactly what you want alongside that food. On top of all that, the staff is consistently wonderful. Every single time we've gone, our waitstaff has been charming, attentive, and genuinely helpful with recommendations. They strike that perfect balance of checking in without hovering, and they make you feel welcome from start to finish. Terlingua never disappoints.
