Updated review for the Salterito food truck in the parking lot of Allspeed on Brighton Ave. The carnitas burrito and Three Amigos tacos (1 chicken, 1 pork, 1 steak) tasted very good! I could've done without the lettuce in the burrito, and I did remove 1 star because it was falling apart when I got home and I ended up having to use my own (store bought) tortilla, which was disappointing after paying $17 for a burrito. Even so, everything was super flavorful! Tacos would be my recommendation to others. I also very much appreciate that the food is all authentic and handmade, they had picnic tables in the shade for seating, and the chef was welcoming and happy to explain the menu options. read more

Saw this food truck on Brighton the other day and had to make a quick turn in to the parking lot to score myself some Latin cuisine! I have heard great things and was really hoping they had pupusas available on the truck... but no such luck. Only tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. That's ok because the very kind gentleman on the truck made the 3 Amigos sound really good! It's one pork, one beef, and one chicken taco on homemade tortillas with the standard fixings - onion, cilantro, guac, and salsa. I will say that the homemade tortillas are very good, though different than most I've had. They are soft to the point of almost being creamy? Very very rich, reminded me of the base of a sope. The meats were absolutely delicious and grilled and full of flavor. I loved both the pork and the beef, though the fattiness could've used an extra lime or two. I took one bite of the chicken taco and got a couple little bones, so I didn't eat the rest of that one. The sauces were good, though I was told one of the sauces was VERY VERY hot and I didn't detect a lot of spiciness from it. I think overall, I could've used double garnish, double lime, and a lot of extra heat. There are no prices on the board so I was thinking three tacos would come to like $10 - $12. Turns out they are $20 before tax, holy moley. I admit that my expectations were high before I even took a bite, because that price point is a little crazy. I am super curious about the brick and mortar because I'm sure it's a different experience with the food truck. These tacos were definitely tasty enough to do some more research! read more

This unassuming place has a decent assortment of Latin food from various cultures. On the day I visited, I was craving a taste of Puerto Rico so I ordered the mofongo with chicharrones. It came just as I would have expected, with the meat nestled inside of the plantain, but there was also more fried pork belly on the plate and it ended up being the perfect ratio of chícharon to plantain. The pleasant man who took my order at the counter brought my plate to the table, and asked if I liked hot sauce - I do! So I had everything to enjoy a taste of Puerto Rico :) Had a little left over and it was just as tasty the next day. Que rico! I'll be back to taste food from other parts of Latin America, or maybe I'll just go with the mofongo again! Only suggestion is to personalize the space to give it more of a Latin restaurant feel and less of a generic fast food joint. read more

Got take out from the other day after hearing about and wanting to try this place for a while. Order was prepared quick within 20 minutes. Everyone inside is super friendly. There are some very inviting people in there with one of them even giving me his business card for car detailing which I thought was funny. I got a chicken burrito and the pupusa de queso as well. The burrito was massive and full of flavor. I kept all the add ins that came with it inside of it and for the price it was well worth it. The pupusas weren't exactly what I was looking for. There wasn't much flavor going on within them but it was my first time having these so now I know they just aren't for me. Overall if you're looking to come here I would highly recommend it. For the price of everything it is well worth it and I believe you will leave satisfied and full. read more

This is a restaurant with an unassuming interior and friendly staff. You order at the counter and can see your food being made behind it immediately after ordering, so you know it's fresh! My family came in on a Saturday at dinner time - it was empty which definitely shows it's a hidden gem! Unfortunately, a lot of the items we wanted were sold out for the day, like the empanadas, sweet plantains, and pork & cheese pupusas. We heard the empanadas were unparalleled, so visit early if you want them. However, the items we did order were great, and my favorite were the Tostones: 1. Beans/Cheese Pupusas: This was our first time trying Pupusas. They were very good, very cheesy and filling; you can't go wrong with cornmeal, refried beans, and a ton of cheese! 2. Tostones: These were the biggest Tostones I've ever eaten - they were large and crispy!! They were a bit oily, but came out piping hot and fresh. 3. Steak Burrito: The Burrito was a little flimsy and messy to eat, but was chock full of meat and filling, and the steak was super tasty and my whole family enjoyed it. 4. Chicken Mofongo: I'd say this was my second favorite dish! It was a bit salty, but sprinkle lime juice throughout, and it'll cut through the saltiness. I had taken a rare day off today and went out for lunch. This place always seems to be closed when I have time off so I tried it today. I was not very impressed, unfortunately. I ordered a shrimp burrito. The shrimp was tasty and the burrito was loaded with great flavors and ingredients, but it wasn't well wrapped and fell apart easily. The hot sauce offered was very good, and hit a good balance between sweet/fruity and spicy (this is in addition to the array of hot sauces on each table). However, I felt the prices were too high and the menu fairly brief. The service, while kind, was disorganized. I was charged after my meal, and only upon approaching the counter again, whereas other patrons were rung up as they ordered. Some people ordered at the counter, others were given a menu and ordered from their table. Upon entering, I was asked if I'd ever been to the restaurant and given a rundown of the menu, and like the thought behind that is nice, but I can read for myself, thanks. When I asked for napkins, I was only given a single paper napkin. Finally, despite the friendly attitude of the staff, I was misgendered (called a 'muchacho'). We were the first at this cute, quaint place on a Saturday morning. They didn't have beef empanadas or sweet plantains available when we arrived. My husband had the steak tacos. They were okay. I had tostones and cheese empanadas. Both took a little time to come out, but the tostones were just okay even though it seemed to be fresh out of the fryer. As for the empanadas, they looked appetizing, but tasted quite rancid, as if the oil used to fry was older. The service was good but the food wasn't our favorite. I've been ordering from them for 5 months and they have never failed to deliver. The food is always hot and fresh - Mu favorite is the pollo asado and the empanadas. Everything on their menu is delicious! I was looking around to see if there was a delivery service that delivers their food (they're aren't any) and so I called the store assuming that they didn't deliver. I'm glad I was wrong! The delivery fee is $10 but it's worth it! I wasn't able to go out (single mom with a sick baby) and so I ordered my food and it was delivered in less than 20 minutes. I'm Puerto Rican, do my own cooking and fortunate enough to do a lot of traveling around the country. I'm always looking for Hispanic restaurants and Lots of places advertise "Puerto Rican" food and fall way short. Think habichuelas vs. frijoles...lol! I knew more or less what I already wanted so I ordered some Arroz Blanco con Habichuelas y Pernil to go. The food was well packed and stayed warm. No spillage in the bag thank god. The serving size was extremely well especially for the cost. I received more than enough food for myself and let me tell you, I can eat!! Especially when it comes to rice and beans. Now for the best part, the food was ON POINT!! Tasted fresh and authentic. Rice was fluffy, not sticky or hard. Beans has a nice consistency. Not mushy or anything. Very delicious. The pernil was juicy, right amount of flavor not too fatty or anything. They even added a little twist and served it with a little pick de Gallo. They also gave me a side of some home made hot sauce. Was sooo good. They make a lot of homemade sauces there. Also, while I was there they gave me a free taco to sample. I've spent a lot of time down in south TX and Cali. I've had my share of different styles of taco's. The one they served me was by far one of the best I've ever had. Me and the family took a chance on this place and...wow. the ingredients are fresh and the burritos remind me of being in SoCal hanging out at a taqueria between surf sessions. I was walking around in the rain trying to find a place to have breakfast, but every place I found had no indoor seating. I stumbled across this restaurant and it looked like I could sit there, so I entered and asked if there was any breakfast available. The man behind the counter said yes and said he could make me some huevos rancheros. It sounded like the perfect breakfast for a cold drizzly day in Portland. Soooo good. I have been searching high and low for an authentic Mexican restaurant since moving here from New Mexico. Everywhere else in Portland is so fancy and yuppified - nothing like real Mexican. Then I found this place. Guys. First of all - delicious. I got the carne burrito with tomatillo sauce and my sister got the pollo burrito. The meat in both was so tender and well cooked. The tortillas were delicious. They are generous with their portions. The minute I walked in I knew it would be good - the smell, the flan and empanadas for sale, the Mexican TV station. The staff are super nice too. All in all - you gotta go. For over $15 for a chicken burrito and after eating half of it and only eating white rice I think there's a problem here this place used to be a lot better. It just seems like a white rice burrito. read more
