Papusa
Wayne C.

Ay! Q delicioso!! Rico! No sé q mas puedo decir! Wow! This gringo was very happy. I spend a lot of time in Honduras and I discovered this restaurant here in Nashville by chance, driving by. I am glad I did! Most posh gringos wouldn't step foot in here-but damn is it worth it! True, original, 100% authentic Honduran food. The baleadas are straight up and the pupusas are increíble. No puedo esperar para regreso!

Carne Asada!

So this is my first foray into Honduran food. And what a delight it was. Tacos for a $1.50! Heck yea!!! We got the carne asada and it was so delicious, I could have had five of those and I would have been a happy trooper. Double tortilla, soft and the meat inside had a great flavor. The tortilla to meat ratio was good! The meat wasn't juicy; in spite of being dry, it was soft. Topped with chopped onions and cilantro; tasted pretty good for how simple it was. We weren't very hungry so we ordered the Polio Con Tajadas to share. The quantity for $10 was generous. And, boy was it delicious. It was a good half portion of chicken, with plenty of plantains, salad and pickled onions. The chicken wasn't spicy but flavorful. It had a light crispy coating, so I think it was fried but not heavily battered. Fried chicken can get quite dry but this was juicy and tender. I liked the mild flavoring, except I cannot put my finger on what it was. It was tasty. The plantains though! Crispy on the outside and soft inside. Not mushy mind you, which I am usually not fond of. And they came plentiful with a creamy mayo-like drizzle and on a bed of sweet tangy tomato sauce. And on the side slaw was a tasty complement. I am surprised, there aren't more reviews on this place. But it seems to be really popular among the Central and South Americans. That speaks for the authenticity of the food, I'd say. And, the price is so affordable for the flavor and quantity. I love an authentic flavor haven that is easy on the pocket and generous on the belly. The restaurant has space for group dining but it seemed roughly maintained. Like few of the seatings had tears. Having said that, the place seemed clean. So overall the ambience may not be that upbeat but given the taste of the food rendered, i'd go back and try some more things off the menu.

Tacos dorados

Absolutely delicious! It is hard to find Latin American food in Nashville that is both authentic and tasty. This place hits the spot. I had the tacos dorados and the pupusas which I miss having grown up in LA. Definitely going back soon.

Hard to get a good picture.

I really pull for places like this. It's a working man's place. The price is nice, the helpings abundant and no need for frills. No wagu beef on the menu, no heritage pork. I thought what I ordered was good, I just couldn't get past the dirty table. That's partly my fault, I sat myself. It's not well lit so I couldn't see until I sat down the schmutz left on the table from a previous meal or two. When the lady came to my table without a rag I didn't say anything. I didn't want to be the prissy gringo complaining from the git-go. I waited until she took my order to the kitchen to wipe up the dried goo with a dampened wad of napkins. And speaking of gringos, I was immediately informed that they had no tea, sweet or otherwise. No hello, howdy, how are you. Just what would you like to drink and we don't have no stinking tea. OK...got it. Water is fine. The fish tacos are grilled and topped with cabbage and crema. I was offered verde hot sauce. Yes mam, thank you. The red sauce on the table was thin but spicy. The Baleadas con carne were huge for $3.65 - for the price I ordered two and had to bring one home. Refried beans, egg, cheese, meat, avocado, & crema. Some of my favorite places are kinda seedy, run down but not dirty. This was dirty. To be fair, it may have been the only dirty table in there, I don't know.

On the inside, you could tell that the restaurant was a little older. The service was very friendly, although not fast they weren't slow either. They had numerous lunch and dinner menu items available. I began to order the chicken stew, but was informed that they were all out. So I decided to have to fried pork chop dinner with rice and salad. I also ordered a Chicharron and cheese pupusa and a baleada. The pork chop was very tasty as was the rice. However, I did not care for the beans and the plantains were decent. The pupusa was very tasty. Definitely my most favorite part of the lunch. Especially, the spicy pickled cabbage. On the other hand, I did not too much care for the baleada. They served us complementary catrachas topped with beans. They were OK. Overall, I thought the food was very good and genuinely authentic.

This is a Honduran restaurant and majority of the staff speak Spanish. So just know you will be pointing at your food unless you speak Spanish. However, they are super sweet, helpful and patient. I can't tell you the name of what I ordered but the picture is on the menu so you won't have issues finding it. The chicken and steak is always seasoned to perfection! I have yet to get a bad order of food. The tortillas are also made to order so they're very fresh. They have scriptures all over the restaurant as well as Christian music playing in Spanish. I love that!! The only downside is the parking is VERY complicated. You park right off the street and it's a REALLY busy street.

(Please note....they do not accept reservations, but I stopped in to check the space available, then called the day before our event. They were most accommodating.) To begin...do not rely on your GPS to take you to the front door...and...be well prepared if you go at night. The restaurant is located in the Crescent Valley Shopping Center, a strip mall spread out behind buildings that line Murfreesboro Pike. Your GPS will probably indicate you have arrived somewhere on Murfreesboro...but don't be fooled, it's around the back of AutoZone, Walgreens, and King Buffet...across the parking lot from Family Dollar. There are no lighted signs to show the way...and it's a narrow entrance squeezed in between several other stores. The restaurant is owned by a family from Honduras. Grandma cooks at lunch and mama takes over for dinner while the males in the family, including son Chris, wait tables etc. By the way, Chris was super-nice and very helpful. Service for our large group, while polite, was a bit inconsistent; at times we had to ask for silverware or help decipher whose order was being delivered. Since they have a small kitchen (see the photos I posted) ALL HANDMADE food comes out one or two items at a time...and that doesn't mean all will be the ones you ordered. If you have a large group, relax and enjoy each others' company. ¡Tome una cerveza! The food: Here's a bright spot. The food is definitely traditional family recipe, personally prepared dishes. Not fast food, not restaurant food...family dinner kinds of dishes. Many of us ordered the Balladas...a thick, flour tortilla grilled, filled with beans, sour cream, Honduran cheese (Sencilla style). I had the Con Todo style filled with beans, cream, cheese, avocado and ground beef. It was great! This was the kind of food I remember from my travels in rural South America. (Take me back, country roads, paths and jungle trails!) I also enjoyed a portion of a Tajada, a full plate lined with fried green plantain chips, cabbage salad, ground beef and shredded cheese...another tasty bite. The Platano Maduro with Honduran Cream was fairly sweet but pretty oily. Everything seems to be served with Honduran cream! Prices are very reasonable. If you are looking for authentic, rustic, family-style cooking, everything handmade...give this place a try. The menu is not great, but adequate for a short trip to Centra America for a day.

Located in a relatively nondescript little building off of Nolensville Pike, a little past K&S Market, Laura's can be easy to miss. There's a dedicated free parking lot (which, admittedly could use some upkeep) in the back of the building. The inside is no frills but very clean and with friendly, attentive service. I came on a Sunday at peak lunch time and it was pretty sparse but slowly started filling up a bit. One main waitress took my order. I wanted to try a little bit of several things so got queso dip, authentic chicken tacos, shrimp tacos, a chicken Gordita, and a side of their hot sauce. As expected you get complimentary chips and salsa. These were tasty, went well with the perfect, drippy queso to start off the meal. The tacos were next: simple but very flavorful. Chicken and shrimp topped corn tortillas with finely chopped red onion, cilantro, snd crumbly delicious cotija cheese, served with wedges of lime and their hot sauce. These were awesome, very authentic, perfectly cooked, and tasty. The hot sauce was pretty spicy but also quite flavorful - it's a must order! The real standout of the meal was the Gordita. Even one is quite large. It was stuffed to the brim with refried beans, chicken, lettuce, and cotija. I added salsa and hot sauce. It mostly held together despite being so stuffed but was so, so delicious. The homemade masa flour covering was still hot from cooking when it came to me and exactly what I was craving. I was honestly too full to try more, but already thinking about my next visit. They've got a decent selection of Mexican items as well as some Honduran and Salvadoran specialties. Very reasonable prices and awesome, attentive service. A must try fit authentic Mexican in Nashville!

The fajita nachos are one of my fave nachos in all of Nashville. The queso in the nachos is perfectly mixed into the dish and the peppers complement the steak perfectly. The Jamaica is very delicious and fresh. The quesadillas are toasted just right and have a saltiness to the flour that helps the quesadilla be a star. The service is good, but a little too on top of us. I'm a slow eater and I don't like to feel rushed and the server asked like 5 times if we were good and if I needed a to go box. I just wanted to peacefully eat my nachos in the restaurant. The inside is pretty big and they do play sports on the TV.

It's a small hole in the wall kind of place right off of the very busy Nolensville Pike in Nashville. If you aren't careful, you might miss it. However, don't miss it. Food is absolutely delicious. Everything from the chips and salsa to the main entrées are on point. The pico de gallo is real fresh and tasty. Everything is fresh cooked to order. Particularly, I recommend the fresh pupusas. Perfect flavors and not greasy at all. I can't rave enough about it. Boss man raved about his chimichanga with tomatillo sauce. He was so happy he even ate avocado. He doesn't usually eat avocado!! He also tried the fresh beef taco and thought he was tasting stuff he hasn't had since San Diego. As for me, the carnitas was refreshingly good. Pork was cooked beautifully and the combo of rice beans salad and pico was unbeatable. The portions are extremely generous that we both took product home with us. One other Yelp reviewer commented about don't come here unless you bring your appetite. That reviewer was spot on. The staff is super nice. They can speak both English and Spanish. The place has kept very clean and neat. And they also play music that adds to the ambience. On the other TV they even had a rodeo playing! If you don't want to buy bottles of soda or anything like that, I recommend you bring your own bottle of water or whatever beverage you prefer. After this experience, we will be sure to be back. Hope to see you there too!

It is in a hidden strip plaza behind a Jack in the Box and the only way to know that a restaurant is here is by what appears to be a homemade sign above the storefront. Walking in I was greeted by a woman and a little girl perhaps five-years-old, maybe six-years-old at the most. She certainly wanted to help what I assume is her mother. I ordered two pupusas off of the menu, as well as a carne asada taco. Be advised that the prices must have got up because on the menu the pupusas were $2.50 and the taco was a dollar fifty. And yet my total with those two items and a bottle of water, which was advertised for a dollar, came out to me over $9. Not a big hiking price and honestly, it is what I would expect to pay for this food. It does bear mentioning. They had giant containers of the Salvadorian coleslaw. Which goes with pupusas. I genuinely enjoyed this coleslaw, as I always do. The pupusas were good at the taco was decent. Nashville, Tennessee it's a city that has some fantastic pupusas. Honestly, I tell people that my favorite city that I have had pupusas in so far is Nashville. While these were good, I have had better in Nashville. I am still giving this establishment five stars because in there a little corner of the world, or at least their corner of Nashville, Tennessee, we were pretty much the only game in town. So this save me about a fifteen or twenty minute drive each way.
