I ordered four pupusas: cheese, loroco with cheese, chipilín with cheese, and jalapeño with cheese. The loroco pupusa was outstanding, the cheese pupusa was classic and tasty, and the jalapeño pupusa had a nice mild kick. Chipilín was new to me, and while not my favorite, it was great to try something authentic. To drink, I had a fresh cashew juice that was refreshing and perfectly balanced not too sweet. I ended my meal with a coffee that was simple but really good. The atmosphere is colorful and family friendly, with murals inside and out that make the space feel authentic and full of culture. Parking is small but manageable. There was soft music playing in the background. It was great. I could have a nice conversation with family and enjoy the moment. On Fridays after 7 PM. We stopped by for some warm soup. It was a cold day. The soup came in a large bowl. Comes with rice or tortillas. It was very hearty. Full of meat and good veggies. It was just what I was looking for. My dd enjoyed his chicken soup and fresh juice. The OJ was good too. The tacos were ok but this is not a Mexican restaurant. I usually buy pupusas and tacos from this place and have always enjoyed them. However, on Wednesday, July 8, I had a disappointing experience. The pupusas were much too salty, and the tacos were soggy. This is the first time I've encountered this issue. This is a good spot for pupusas. The restaurant/ambiance is also very nice, & seems very welcoming. The staff is always nice , although I usually take my food to go. I've only gotten the pupusas from here. They are always very fresh and so cheesy . The pupusa revuelta which has refried beans and cheese , is my personal fav. I have been going to Las Canastillas since 2003 and only been here today after a while but it will be my last visit. The pupusas which I loved is no longer authentic and not made with pure white corn meal but mixed with flour and quite tasteless. It is larger in size but the deliciousness is gone. My bistec encebollado dinner was not what it used to be; it was lacking in flavor and tenderness as the steak was tough and chewey. I ordered a horchata and it had a horrid burnt taste; nothing like a horchata at all. My friend and brother said their tacos were good. It's truly unfortunate. I wish I would have read yelp reviews prior to me going to this place. For a split second i thought to myself maybe I'm just overacting or ... but i definitely wasn't. They do make pretty awesome popusas but I experienced really poor customer service, terrible! To me terrible service can overpower any food, no matter how good it is. Given all other food places to eat, I don't want to spend my money to come to get a service and get treated like crap. When I asked to speak to the owner or manager, the older lady at the register(who I assume is the owner) said that she wasn't in. I politely gave her feedback on the server and on her own service and she rudely said that it is my problem because nobody else has complained about it. Obviously not true as many people have experienced the same . The onions sitting on each table didn't look too old but the long plastic spoon for dipping had grease and residue on it. I can only imagine how many people or kids touched it after having sneezed on their hands.... with the flu going around killing people it is not something I'm willing to risk. I asked for the check,with a smile on my face, to the young lady that served our table( even after she had done a very poor job )and she rolled her eyes at me ....just couldn't believe it!
