Very good seafood, the cataplana was excellent but that vegetarian dish as well, friendly service, nice surroundings. A nice experience.

    Beach Bar - Outside. Beautiful!

So apparently today is 'Blue Monday' aka the most depressing day of the year in the UK. So as I sat…read morestaring at my laptop thinking about all the negative things I possible could to fit into this dismal day, I had a brain wave, let's think about my favourite place on the planet. Alas, here I am. I've been visiting Burgau since I was 2 years old and have been every year since then (twice on most occasions), and despite loving everything about the place - the Beach Bar is just something else. You'll see from the pictures that it's set in a beautiful place, in a beautiful little village on the coast of the Algarve and, as you could guess, right on the beach. The bar itself serves several purposes; during the day it houses beach goers looking for a nice lunch, and ice cream or evening a midday jug of sangria, and by night it's a beautifully decorated restaurant serving some of the freshest seafood in Portugal! My personal favourite here is the Swordfish steak, served with fresh salad and your choice of potatoes, I enjoy it that much I refuse to have Swordfish anywhere else! The king prawns are another big hit here, as is the Piri-piri Chicken! Family owned and operated (by an English/Portuguese family) for it's entirety, the Beach Bar seemingly has the wooing effect on anyone that passes by. Friends families and complete strangest are all caught up in the nostalgia of this place and you're often rubbing shoulders with some celebs that have houses nearby - Ian Rush & Michael Owen to name a couple! It's a big ask to tell someone to book an entire holiday based on one place, however I wholeheartedly believe you'd fall in love with this place (and I don't even know who 'you' are). Well, this cured my Blue Monday.. Blues..

Took 10 minutes to clear a table to be seated. Another 10 for our order to be taken. Unfortunately…read morewe then waited for 50 minutes and our food still hadn't showed up. There were 3 other tables who had ordered before us who still hadn't received their food. Our server said they were very busy. As if the restaurant had never been busy before ever?? We left after 50 minutes. Infuriating and no sense of urgency. Don't come here and waste your time.

Great roadside restaurant right on the way to the Sagres fort. An excellent option for lunch!…read more The restaurant is split into two sides, to the left the proper restaurant and to the right smaller cafe for a quick espresso or sandwich. To walk into the left hand side after they have been cooking is to inhale the richest purest aroma of fish broth. A promising sign of things to come. We started with their appetizer plate (a ubiquitous element to Portuguese meals- offered without ordering, although not free) with tasty cheese, olives, bread, and anchovy paste. For the meal we had Sagres local beers, and the regional algarve specialty of clams in a butter-garlic sauce and then one of A Sagres' famous fish stews. This is a BIG pot of broth with rice at the bottom and many kinds of fish and prawn cooked with it. It is like a magnificent soup version of a paella. With just this starter, small entree, and big soup entree we were completely full. After the meal we took cafe espressos and a slice of almond orange cake. We were deeply satisfied, and the service, while not the fastest, was very friendly.
