This is the review I have been holding off for a while. Today marks 6 months since we used this service. This has been the most difficult and saddest decision we've had to make. When I contacted Restful Paws, I didn't know what to expect. In fact, I felt bad crying on the phone because I couldn't imagine trying to talk to someone like me at that moment. But the staff couldn't be more understanding and supportive. Unlike making end of life decisions for your fur baby, the process of scheduling this appointment was very easy. Restful Paws asked all the right questions, set the expectations, and made this process that much easier. And on the day of, Dr. Ami arrived promptly at the scheduled time. She was very caring and understanding, and she put all of us at ease. We could not have asked for a better last day for our Sodapop. I'm thankful that we reached out to restful pause, and grateful that they were able to come to our house to help us get through this phase. My family and I had to make the hardest decision as a pet owner and put our long lived Christy down. From calling to make an appointment, receiving reminder emails, and day of texts from our vet, each step was handled with so much compassion. We were able to find a weekend availability which was best scenario so everyone could attend. Dr. Vine was very punctual the day of and gave us a thorough breakdown of what to expect (pain reliever, anesthesia, and euthanasia). We didn't feel rushed at any point, and we were given ample time before proceeding to each stage. She was very respectful and the process was smooth. After the euthanasia, we were able to choose where we wanted the fur clippings. The paw print was perfectly imprinted with Christy's name, which added such a sweet personal touch. We chose to pickup Christy's ashes at Sage, and it was quick. The only thing is it felt very jarring going to an animal hospital filled with so many people and dogs. Considering this was only 2 weeks after the euthanasia, I was still grieving and it was difficult being in that environment so soon. The only feedback I'd give is it'd be more mindful if there was a separate pickup location away from everyone else for more privacy. Dr. Vine sent a sympathy card as well and it was very sweet. Thank you so much for giving Christy such a respectful experience and having her pass comfortably and peacefully. I will definitely recommend this organization to loved ones! My very skiddish and frightened cat with small cell lymphoma took a very sudden and sharp turn for the worst. While I was waiting for a vet appointment, he stopped eating completely. Given his history and diagnosis, my vet recommended euthanasia. I called several places, who did not return my call or who were scared of my description of my very frightened, in-pain cat who was scratching me when I picked him. My 19-year-old kitty girl was battling chronic kidney disease for a few years and went into advanced kidney failure. I work in veterinary medicine, so I had the skills to give supportive care so we could spend time with her before we helped her transition. I was going to euthanize the day after we found out she was in kidney failure, but I wasn't ready, and I was able to call them short notice to reschedule without losing my deposit or any other issue. The day came when it was time. They send a doctor solo without veterinary technicians, which I found amazing since I wanted to create a calm environment without any other distractions. She explained the process and took everything slow. Once she had explained the process, she stepped outside to give us time with her. When we were ready, she came back in and explained how we were going to euthanize. Most veterinary practices use an IV catheter to put the medicine that ultimately euthanizes the pet straight into their veins. However, it's stressful and painful for the pet to have to do this. The doctor instead gave an injection into her neck area, and she drifted off to sleep. Once she was sedated, she was given the second medication to help her transition. Afterwards, she wrapped my girl into a swaddle with a blanket she brought, and I carried her out to the van the doctor was driving. They had a wicker basket with a small bed inside. I placed her on the bed, kissed her, and said goodbye. We ultimately chose individual cremation and ordered spreadable ashes and an urn. They send you a link after services to purchase these items. Something else I love about Restful Paws is that they use a company that uses hydro cremation. Which is ultimately better for the environment. We received our girl back a week and one day after she transitioned. Please remember that in-home euthanasia is expensive; however, if you are looking to take this route with any company, it is going to be an investment. This review is about 4 years overdue, but since our experience with Dr. Vine at Restful Paws, multiple friends and family who had been present have requested our recommendation so I wanted to post in case it helps anyone else going through this. The day we had to put our 15 yo Chihuahua mix (Milly) to sleep was impossibly difficult. She was a family pet we got when I was 11, and my mom had taken care of her for the most part. I was young, it was my first time being responsible for anything like this and I was heartbroken. My mom comes from a religion and culture that doesn't believe in euthanasia but all the vets we went to agreed that it was the most compassionate choice we could make. Day of, my mom was having an especially hard time going through with it. Dr. Vine helped comfort my mom with her expert advice and opinion on Milly's symptoms and prognosis before we got started, and still took the time to go over the full process, checking with us at every stage before moving forward.
