I buy materials for upgrading our Sequoia Humane Society shelter in Eureka and we have been able to buy white tile to make an isolation ward for our Pregnant rescues to give birth and to isolate sick pets and protect the shelter pets from contamination. Workers are very rude. Had 5 minutes before closing wouldn't allow me to use restroom while my husband was in line to pay for some items we wanted. Needless to say due to the rudeness we decided against our purchase. On top of the rudeness the worker had the nerve to touch me. Having PTSD from a brutal assault during a home invasion it caused me to go into a panic attack. I realize the worker had no way of knowing but businesses need to train their employees not to walk up & touch people for that very reason. read more

Habitat for Humanity Restore is a place that looks like a store, but houses a lot of junk that people don't want. Some of it is useful, but most of it is not. I go there sometimes when I have a lot of time. There are lots of very old and worn tools as others have said, "Overpriced". I did purchase a big box of galvanized hex head with washer screws for a roofing job I want to do for the goats. $10. I saw the same thing at Home Depot for $23. Mine look old and suspect - but I don't think the goats will mind... and my box had more than the Home Depot box. Additionally, I was able to get a 20% discount because I convinced the clerk I was a veteran by telling him my service number very quickly. Oddly I can recite very quickly because it was one of those things they made us do in basic training. I suggest they keep a rifle around and have veterans demonstrate their knowledge of close order drill to prove they are veterans. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DmFL2JclqY). Friday is Military day. Thursday is for Senior Citizens, but for this senior citizen it doesn't matter because I would never remember which day is senior citizen day... or what day it is for that matter. If you luck out by being old and arrive on a Thursday, you will get 20% off. Probably the best part about Habitat for Humanity Restore is that they will take your old junk. I took them an old radial arm saw that I didn't want anymore because I had serious fears I'd cut my arm off with it. I saw it there for sale for $58. They had cleaned the rust off the blade and verified it worked. I also saw they have two pallets of exterior doors for a 32" frame. That's kind of an odd ball size. $25 each. One set was plated with tin. A nice touch for $25 - but I don't have a need for them. The other good thing about being a senior citizen is that you can go home and take a nap when you are done looking at all the junk. It made me quite tired to look at all that stuff. read more

If you haven't been here lately you should check it out! We remodeled our bathroom with all ReStore products, for pennies on the dollar! My sister bought a sofa there that looked brand new for $300, which might seem like a lot for resale, but she found it online for $1500. They also have antiques now if that's your thing. No other place like it in Santa Rosa, so you can't really compare it to "thrift shops "because of the sort of things they carry... More like thrift shop meets thrift Home Depot! It's a must for anyone doing remodel on a tight budget. Also, if you see something you like I recommend buying it because it probably won't be there the next day. read more

You can't go wrong buying used and new tools and building supplies at Restore, because the proceeds support Habitat for Humanity. It's fun to browse their stuff. If you buy something that doesn't work out, you can donate it back to them and write it off on the taxes. There's friendly, helpful volunteers there to give you a helping hand or advice. ReStore - Thrift Stores Near Me - Santa Rosa, California

While this place is definitely hit or miss, I've scored a number of decent bargains. My best advice: (1) sign up for the email list to know when they are discounting a category of item in which you are interested - go then; (2) don't just consider an item as it is - consider how it could be (I bought an enormous, AWFUL wood and iron light fixture, spray painted it silver and it is now simply stunning; (3) ask for an additional discount - if an item has been in the store for a while, you can often negotiate to reduce the price. Struggled between 3 and 4 stars - finally decided on 3 because I think I tend towards too many stars. read more

I've only been here once, and I'm a little perplexed on how to comment on a place that has a mission statement of basically recycling usable junk. Yay for them. Let's use this stuff! Having said that, I didn't find a thing I was hoping to find from my long list. Nevertheless, this is a great place to check out. I'm guessing you need to frequent regularly and grab it when you see it to get the good stuff. I'm not much of a hoarder for future projects and/or ideas, so this place doesn't really fit my M.O. I imagine other people who don't mind dropping in frequently and storing things for when they're ready will appreciate what they have to offer here. read more

all of you who think prices are too high need to get a reality check I am as cheap a bargain hunter as they come and I think the porices are fair and you can bargain with them. This is the best place to find what you need when updating or re-modeling your home. No you won't find everything you need here but with a bit of DIY skills you can save tons of money. Found knobs for cabinets, a beautiful modertn kitchen island and have used the paint section as well. They are also friendly and knowledgeable whihc is more than I can say for Home Depot or Lowes. read more

We were thrilled to shop at restore to fix up our very first house. I love the idea, and was really excited to do our part buying used, and help our community. We purchased many items there including a french door. We were assured it was complete (we are admittedly not experienced in this) and "top of the line". We took it home and had our door guy come to install. When he saw it, he asked where the kick plate was. No kick plate. It is a part that is not in stock at hardware stores and needs to be special ordered for hundreds of dollars! Almost as much as the door itself! We ended up going to Lowes and buying a brand new COMPLETE door for less than what we paid at ReStore. As we're on a very tight budget, I tried to contact restore about this issue. We were hoping to return the door in its original condition for our money back. Since we were forced to buy a new door because they incorrectly labeled and completely lied to us. They never responded. So, I guess restore is an organization that has no issues taking advantage of hardworking people to build houses for people who are less fortunate? Not cool. EDIT- spoke to Thomas on the phone and he was very accommodating. Seeing that this door was the only issue we had our of many items purchased, I would definitely go back and purchase more from ReStore, just make sure you do your homework on prices first. read more

Prices too high on everything & are higher than new in some cases. And yes, some of the stuff that is donated is still in the box, but that doesn't qualify as new.- there are no manufacturer warrantees, etc. and it is in a second hand store that doesn't have a wholesale overhead... 10% off used is not a good deal by any measure( 50% or less is normal if in good condition).. Great place to go if your primary motivation is to donate to H4H, but otherwise not worth it. They do have some cool stuff, but you can find a greater selection new & warranted from a regular retail store. Great idea for a great organization but the implementation isn't helping in the long run. Lets face it, most people who are going to buy things in that store work hard and don't have much money.The store should have more of a community focus. read more

First and foremost, the idea behind H2H is great and the business model is a awesome concept. With that being said, whoever sets the prices for their stuff is crazy. Deals can be had if you hunt for them, but their prices are sometimes higher than if you went to the Home Depot and purchased the same item brand new. So don't go in there expecting low prices on everything, because greed can effect a non profit charity just as it does their for profit counterpart. read more

I have been to many Habitat stores. The Santa Rosa outlet reflects the values of the community it is in; Yuppie Stuckup. I have gone to this store with all kinds of leftover building supplies and they only took a handful of what I know to be of value to the typical shopper. Needless to say, I rarely find what I want and need for my projects because they turn too much aside. I have heard every excuse and as far as I'm concerned this store can simply shut down. It does not hold true to the values of Habitat For Humanity like the others I have done business with. Check out the store in Salt Lake City and you will know what Habitat is all about. An Attitude Makeover is what this store needs! Go to Recycle Town at the Sonoma County dump to recycle your unwanted building materials. Seriously! read more

This place has really neat bits and pieces and I love the idea of recycling building materials as much a possible. The day I went it felt a little empty but I found something amazing. The new location is much more user friendly than the previous location. Do they always have everything I am looking for? Of course not, it is a donation based organization after all but they do have a lot of great and interesting items that are worth browsing. The best part? The sales revenue is used to support a great cause of building affordable housing for Sonoma County families. Not just any low income family mind you, but families that are willing to put in hundreds of hours in sweat equity, take classes in financial literacy, and more. In a community that has driven up housing prices through approval difficulties and ridiculous building fees, low income families have no hope of quality housing outside the help of organizations like Habitat. read more

We picked this charity to donate two furniture items, one quite expensive and one antique. The process of getting scheduled for pick-up was a breeze, especially compared to Salvation Army. From a submitted request with photos to pick-up day was just one day! I was impressed by their professionalism from start to finish. Love this place! I am an avid thrift shopper always looking for that next treasure to rescue and re imagine. I never know what I will find there, but I almost always leave with something. There are times when I see items still there over time because the price may have been a little off, but they always reduce until it finds the right home. Any time I have decided to sleep on a cool item, it is almost always gone the next day so I have learned to buy what I love when I see it. I have purchased furniture, flooring, lighting, cabinets, counter tops, art work, garden stuff and doors. Don't bother with this place. I called twice to arrange a pick up of some really lovely furniture. We didn't have time to advertise it on Craigslist before our move, so thought a donation to Habitat would be for a good cause. I twice called the pick up driver in charge, and he didn't call back. I then called the store directly, and was told that the driver 'is a very busy man.' I assured him that I was ' a very busy woman,' and that I didn't understand why a five minute call could not be arranged. Took my business to the Good Will, who immediately drove over and were thrilled with what we donated. Too bad for the HfH people who benefit from their efforts - they just lost many thousands of dollars in merchandise - but just as happy to donate to the Good Will. However, this is no way to run a business, and I hope they learn that a brief call to touch base will reap far greater rewards than simply telling a person who wants to donate 'we're busy.' read more
