Kristi waited on me at checkout today and the store was incredibly busy. I always buy a lot of jewelry from the shop and it takes quite a bit of time to ring up. I also love to look at the purses at behind the check out. Kristi is always willing to help me. She never complains and she is always very patient. This is my favorite thrift store to go to when I need to buy any kind of dishes, glasses, or cookware. I recommend it to EVERYBODY. They have a huge selection & the way they display everything is so cute. I've been to Retails about 4 times now & I've always found something I love, every time. And SO affordable! I got a whole set of 8 margarita glasses for less than $8, and I've found the cutest vintage pots, pans, & dutch ovens there. Honestly, I'm probably going to shop at Retails for everything I want to have in my kitchen. It's cottagecore af. If you don't need any dishes, they have really cool furniture at a good price. My bf found some awesome men's dress shirts as well. I really love that every purchase you make here benefits the Humane Society, too. I always find good shoes and clothing not only for myself but also my husband. You really never know what you are going to find it's like a treasure hunt. Some days are better than others depending on what's coming into the store. What I like best is donating, knowing that the proceeds go to take care of all of those canines and cats caring for their needs until they go to a new forever home and family. Just moved to vancouver & this is the coolest thrift store I've ever experienced. I cant say much about the clothes & books, but I was able to furnish my new apartment with 2 modern & lightly used large area rugs 40$ each, a coffee table (very lighly scratched) (mahogany) for 40$ a dresser (very lightly scratched) for 40$ w/ a drawer missing, a microfiber recliner for 40$, & a coffee maker for 8$ & a dolly to move 10$ (even though i ran into someone there who offered to help me carry the dresser) there is seriously so much cool stuff at this store; a true blessing to have this shop in my city :) the ladies who work here care about their customers experience, & will go out if their way to search the large amount of things that are still in the back (freshly received) to help get you moved in alright. I noticed 2 new employees last week when i was there, they seem to be doing great business. Ive been to thrift stores that were ran by church organizations which charged more for more heavily used furniture. 5 stars all the way! read more

Staff rejects new items if not to their liking. I brought in several items, one being an unopened box for a vent for a van or truck top. (Or even camper) They refused it and just said "We don't want it" Fine, I went to Goodwill who was happy to take it. I jsut wish I'd said to the first place "Give me back my items then" but since that would have been equally classless as they are, I didn't. But they'll never see my money nor donations. Want to be picky? Fine, that's your right. Mine is also to be picky and reject ever donating to this disgusting group ever again. Now will I ever adopt through them. read more

I've been meaning to follow up on Retails for a while. Several visits of being bummed out are enough to update my review. Mostly I'm leaving it 3 stars because I still appreciate how money goes toward the Humane Society, as more stores should participate in that kind of good. It started out great, loving the space and the prices. Now it's a bit hard to walk through since they stuff too much stuff everywhere, and the prices have sky-rocketed. Everything music related is way overpriced. Example: There is a children's drum set there. It is just a few drums, a double pedal that you can't step on, and no cymbals. It's generously worth $100 mostly because of the snare drum. It was priced at $400 and that was crossed out to $200. Still WAY too much. Originally it had a cowbell. I asked if I could just buy the cowbell. A simple no would suffice, but the cashier was INCREDIBLY rude when I asked about it. Upon returning, the cowbell was gone. What a bummer! But I'm not surprised the drums are still there after at least nine months. Goodwill sells their speakers usually under $50. They had one there for $150. Holy cow! A guitar they had for sale was easily worth $90, selling for $200. Keep in mind I'm familiar with all this kind of equipment... It's also funny how they hang a big sign on their speakers saying "ITS BEEN TESTED" to try and persuade you that they clearly know their gear. The list goes on, but we'll change gears to mention the pain we had in trying to buy some chairs. Honestly, if someone wants to buy a part of something, shouldn't they be able to? There was a table and chairs but we only need the chairs. They wouldn't split them up. Buying NEW, I'd understand. But used thrift store stuff, well, they should accept the fact that we're ready to give them money for anything that could have just been thrown out. Their DVD movies are $4 each and most other places compete with $3. I only point it out because I got one once that didn't even work either. Not on 2 different players or 2 different computers. Not a scratch on it, either! Even better, they tape their DVDs shut and the cashier asked if I checked the disc. Naturally, I said I hadn't because the store tapes them shut. "Well you can cut the tape you know!" Rude, again, and why would I cut through tape and look like I'm stealing? One last thing: There was a sign over the summer saying their fall hours would be changing. We asked what those hours were and got a lovely, "I don't know, when the sun goes down?" Yikes! I hope more people notice, point out, and complain about their prices being too high. Also, I hope they start hiring friendlier staff. I would be thrilled to work in such an cool & interesting place that supports animals! read more

Love this thrift store! Well organized, clean, beautiful displays-that they constantly change to make things interesting. And store within a store themes: wedding dress boutique, music shop, book store, Halloween cave etc. I think the prices are reasonable (better than Goodwill) and they have all kinds of specials: colored tag discounts, buy 3 get 1 free clothing specials, 1/2 price clothing for seniors day, Sunday is managers specials day. They also have very creative employees that re-purpose items for sale. Because the proceeds go to animals...and who doesn't love animals? I believe they get a larger volume of high quality donations than other thrift stores. Check it out for yourself-or stay away and leave more for me! read more

Very clean. I love that most of the clothes are one (reasonable) price, and sorted into colors. Their items are staged and not just thrown on shelves, so it's more like boutique shopping at thrift prices. Great selection of books too. read more

What a fabulous thrift store. Great prices and so well put together. Adorable displays all color coordinated. No wading through crap to find the gems. One pricing feature on clothing ($4.99) not always a bargain if it's a Walmart brand but if you know labels you can find some steels. This is a great place and benefits the humane society. GORGEOUS displays..seriously. great cause..not thrift store prices on many items. excellent book section..I love it. I've only bought smaller items and never clothes. the displays are original and nicely arranged. but I believe they are missing the boat on prices. you can't afford to be in such a competitive market without price incentives. worth stopping at..be sure to walk around the whole store to check out the displays. you may find that special treasure..and it will be cheaper than a new price. read more

I very much enjoy shopping here. They have great music, the store is always clean and organized, friendly staff, and fair pricing. They have an antique section, a ton of jewelry, and a section for brand name clothing. I always find something I love. Once I went in while they were having a 25c jeans sale-score! Sometimes there are cats for adoption inside too. Proceeds benefit the humane society, can't beat it. read more

Awesome variety, kept very tidy and clean, lots of dog toys & cheap carriers. My mom & I spent a good 2 hours in there, shopping away. $80 later, I had a pair of very nice jeans, 3 shirts, about 25 children's books, a few nick nacks, and a like new laptop purse bag for a friend. I have been a regular customer there for over 3yrs now..I always stop in twice a week to check out new items they have...Most of the staff is friendly except for one or two...Just so happened yesterday that one of the rude employees was working the cash register..They now have it set up so there is 3 lines to the registers and it obviously doesn't work well..The place was slow and I was 2nd in line..Another lady got into the 3rd empty line several minutes after me..When the cashier was done with her customer she waved for the other lady to come up..I spoke up that it was my turn next..She gave me a dirty look and continued waving the other lady forward..I left my cart where I was standing and walked out..This action by this employee was so rude and discriminating that I will never go in there again..It really sucks to be treated this way and I really hope the employee would be fired for treating customers like this but I doubt that will happen..The employee was the overweight one with the mean look always on her face..It seems that she has a problem with LGQPT people and thinks she can treat them with disrespect for her own amusement..And they call themselves Humane Society, right. read more

I rarely go to any other thrift store but ReTails since it opened and Value Village left. As a senior I appreciate the 50% discount on clothing every Wednesday. The 20% coupons that are published frequently and the prices that are more reasonable than Goodwill. Items for sale are clean and nicely displayed. I gave them 4 stars because the book section is darker, more cramped, and less easy to shop in then it first was while located in the northeast corner. And, it would be lovely to have adoption events there, even if only monthly. read more

I can't believe that I am actually giving this place just an A-OK, it is really sad. I have been shopping and donating here since they began as Paws and Claws, and moving to various locations around Vancouver. Up until they moved to the now location on Fourth Plain, they were a GREAT place to shop. They had reasonable pricing, great selections of most things, and, can't forget the always helpful and courteous employees. Can't say what happened, but when they moved to Fourth Plain, the pricing is a little ridiculous for a thrift store, and their goods have lessened in quality, maybe it is higher rent, or even poor management, I do know it's sad. It's got where Goodwill has better pricing and goods. The goods they do have are always displayed artfully, and the store is always clean. I have donated many, many items over the years. The things I do donate are not junk, nor are they worn out, I just get bored easily and am always rotating my clothes and household goods. At times when I would donate, return to the store at later dates, I would never see the things I had donated. At times I do go to Value Village, and other thrift shops around Vancouver, and would see something that looked like the things I donated to Retail's. I would always tell myself that I couldn't be the only person in Vancouver with this product, but something in the back of my mind knew it had been mine. One day after a sickness that caused me to lose 67lbs., I donated all of my plus size clothing that I could wear anymore, many of these items were brand new. Again, at a later date I returned to the store and saw nothing, this time I was on a quest for a particular item that Retail's didn't have, so, I went to Value Village (don't visit here much), while I was there I decided to swing by the clothing, and there was almost ALL the things I had donated to Retail's. How did it get to Value Village? The next time I went to Retail's, I ask one of the employees how this was possible, she told me: "That when they get too much stuff, it get's spread around to the other thrift store's, and they are very picky about the items they sell, so the junk is what goes." I explained to her that not only were the items new or nearly new, but even had 925 silver jewelry included. At this point all I got was a "Hmmm". Needless to say I was shocked! I give to them to help the animals, if I wanted to help another charities I would take my stuff there. So you see, this is why Retail's only gets 3 stars, poor pricing, poor goods, great employees, clean store, great displays. read more

Used to be great as Paws & Claws . . . was like a giant garage sale where you could search though shelves & boxes for bargains and unique items. Lots of repeat customers . . . . lines at check-out were long with filled carts and armfuls of stuff . . . customers and cashiers seemed to become instant friends and shared lots of laughter and fun and informality. Now it's "too too" . . . too expensive, too "displayed," and too much like a big box retailer. Not nearly as many shoppers in there any more whenever I've visited. Oh well, at least a percentage goes to helping all those wonderful animals. read more

Wow, excellant thrift store. Whoever organized this store needs a raise. Everything organized by color is very appealing. Very large selection and everything neatly placed on shelves with respect to donated items, not like goodwill where crap is piled upon itself and looks junky and damaged. Great quality items hete. Ive donated a TON of things to this store. What brought me was the fact that all money generated goes toward the local humane society. Anything to help animals in need. Anytime i hear people talk about donating to goodwill i tell them about this place and get them hooked. read more

The thrift stores in vancouver have went down hill since Value Village went out of business. Value Village was the best because of it's pricing, staff and discounts. In my opinion, Retails is now the better one left but they have some real problems with their pricing. I don't understand why that when they get too much inventory they don't just mark things down to free up room and rotate stock! They rarely give useful discounts. They should learn from the model given at Habitat for Humanity (great place). Every item is dated on it's tag and the longer the item stays at Habitat, each week a larger discount is given until the item is sold. This keeps the customers coming back every week and inventory rotated. About Retail staff, I have had both extremely nice and extremely rude. I just hope the rude staff are not kept and I believe that if WE get the employee's name and make Retails aware of the problem by calling, texting, posting or writing a letter, this will make Retails a much more pleasant place to be for everyone.
