Overpriced and acted like we were stealing, ended up not buying something because of the lady's rudeness

Contrary to the imbecile woman below, I have eyeballs and was able to read the sign on the front door and counter stating the store's policy. You follow instructions and leave your bags at the counter, and go about your merry way. Rest assured there is no oven in the back, nor a hag to run it. As a small business owner I have been victim to all ages, and kinds of people stealing things that I have hand made or curated, this policy is in effect to deter that kind of behavior from all parties and make it easier for you to shop with your hands free. Cher, is a delightful and super sweet lady, her prices are always super reasonable, and they also have a 30 day layaway program with 1/3 deposit. Between the 30 vendors, the eras of vintage clothing range from the 40's-90's, sizing ranges from XXS-XXL, and there is also a large selection of retro pieces if you're looking for a specific look I.e. Pinup, flapper, hippie, 80's. With an abundance of groovy accessories downstairs. There's 5000 sq. feet to look through, so come with some time to waste. But guaranteed you will find some super badass one of a kind pieces! read more

It was better than i could imagine, you could find so many clothes and accessories from any kind of time, it was awesome and really interesting, the only thing that made me sad was that I couldn't find clothes with my size, but then I remembered that nobody in the old times were wearing very tight clothes haha read more

They do not date their clothing properly. They put an old zipper into a repro skirt and sold it as true vintage. Very sketchy.

This place is so full of color and life!! There is something to look at at every corner of the store. If you want to venture around for 70s-80s pieces, this cozy store is a sweet spot. I found such cute vintage dresses and hats. We spent a good amount of time walking around and lounging around with the cat too. read more

Not impressed. I was very disappointed actually, I heard such great things about this place. Everywhere said this was the best vintage in Houston, and if it is then what a bummer. The selection is ok, I couldn't really find anything that intrigued me all that much, though they do have a really nice dress section save for being a bit pricey, but still it is bountiful in all things REAL vintage. But aside from that.. there wasn't really a whole lot of anything, and everything was a bit pricey in my opinion. I do really like the architecture in that place though, and the set up is nice. It feels like I'm just hanging around someone;s grandma's attic. But as far as clothes, this place is a no go for me. read more

The store had some good stuff I'm sure and the staff was nice, but there was so much stuff it was overwhelming. Not only did they have pretty much too much, but they didn't seem to have an apparent system of organization, making it pretty difficult to find things. To find quality items. One would need to spend quite a bit of time looking through everything. I wish they were more selective with the items they had or at least placed the best ones in a specific area. I spent about an hour and a half here really trying to find something and I didn't because I was having trouble focusing with so many items. I think if you came in with a specific object you wanted, it would be easier to find it, but if you are simply browsing, it's overwhelming. read more

Honestly this place is great! Yeah it might be old and a little dusty , but do you want RETRO clothes or not ? I love vintage and retro clothes and I'm always in the Heights, so I always check this store out. It is a little hard to find the clothes you want but in the end you will most likely find it if you look really hard . If you just take a look there are over a thousand clothes to pick from, starting at the 50's 60's 70's 80's and 90's. I highly recommend this store if you are interested in old school fashion. read more

Wow, great space... huge! They have a great mix of clothing, purses, shoes and jewelry from all decades, including some designer goods from the likes of Ferragamo and Lilly Pulitzer. You could spend hours in this store though because there is so much stuff in its' 2 levels. A really fun way to spend an afternoon! read more

I'm not a "wear vintage clothes daily" kind of person, but I appreciate it. I was in the area, so I decided to give Retropolis a try. The prices are very reasonable, and the selection is great. If you need a costume for any period party, you can find it here. I also like the cowboy boot selection. I didn't see anything I couldn't live without, but it was a nice way to spend some time digging and laughing. read more

This is one of my absolute favorite spots for vintage in Houston. I have been to a loooot of thrift stores and consignment shops, and this is definitely a great place. Because they host sellers, there is such a variety of items. You can find anything from any era of clothing. They have tons of items packed full. Although it can get a little messy, each individual seller has their own style in their section. Prices are definitely varied, but I have found some real gems here. The only bummy part is if you find something without a tag, they cannot sell it until the owner comes to price it. So they can only hold it for you, which could not be good if you don't live in the area. The owners are friendly, and it's in a very central Heights location! read more

If the everyone in the city of Houston needed vintage and vintage-inspired clothing all at once, we could probably pull it off with the help of Retropolis. This store was overwhelmingly full of vintage (and vintage-esque) clothing, purses, and jewelry. Cloths are all mixed together (t-shirts and dresses happily share racks with suit jackets), so bring some patience. Things are in good condition and prices range from reasonable to supercheap. There's costume-y clothing as well as everyday stuff and tons of shoes. read more

It's located north of Houston on a strip that has similar shops. Prices are most reasonable here though. There are tons of vintage items and boots to look at. It is semi-organized and a plethera of items. Expect to spend some time here because there are lots to see and purchase. read more

Retropolis is a HUGE metropolis of pure vintage clothing. I love it. It's like a vintage-lovers playground. I honestly think that if "Carrie Bradshaw" ran into this place, she would stop mixing and matching vintage finds with designer labels and start wearing strictly vintage. Things are so unique here. Mind you, I'm an avid vintage shopper and I even resale and style vintage clothing for women, so I know my stuff. No, they don't have vintage Chanel or Valentino, but you will find great things in this two-story heaven. Now, don't think you'll be able to go into this store and shop as if you're in a thrift store because it is definitely not cheap in comparison. Look to spend about $10-40 on certain shirts and $20-50 for bottoms. Lots of great everyday wear and costume clothes. There's also tons, and I do mean tons, of jewerly and purses. If you are truly looking for items, then come prepared. Come with comfortable clothing and lots of time because you will definitely be combing through at least 50+ racks full and stuffed with clothing. read more

Ummmm can I give it ZERO stars?! Better yet, NEGATIVE 5 stars? I have NEVER been so insulted by a business in my entire life. My friend and I had gone to the Heights to redeem a Groupon and decided to check out the area. We had a blast walking through the streets, browsing the various antique stores and novelty shops. Everyone was super nice, smiling and saying hello as they passed us on the street. We had just bought a couple of little items at a previous store and each of us had a bag as we walked in the rather crowded store. We were laughing about some of the merchandise that had been positioned right near the front door, and wondering if we wanted to go any further into the store. We decided we just had to check it out a little further. As we walked by the front counter, there were several ladies being checked out by a young woman, and at the end a very sour faced old lady. I really didn't pay much attention to her as we started to pass her, until she rudely stepped in front of me and in a very sarcastic voice and a sour look on her face said, with one eyebrow cocked, "why don't I HOLD your bag while you shop". The way she said it was very insulting. I was quite a taken back by the tone and look in her eyes and was, frankly, slightly stunned. I felt like she was insinuating something very ugly... like I was a thief. She also took my friends bag. I had intended to continue looking, but I just couldn't get the tone of her voice and the look on her face when she approached me out of my mind. I turned around went back to the counter, and asked for my bag back and left. I will NEVER, EVER step foot in that store again. I don't not have a problem with a store having a policy of outside bags need to be checked at the counter, but she didn't seem interested in making anyone else check their bags. She was very nasty in the way she demanded my shopping bag, as if I was some low-life thief. I have been in law enforcement for 15 years and have been married to a cop for 24 years. I really think the last thing I look like is a thief. I can't imagine what she was basing her judgement on. I wasn't dressed like a thug, wasn't making a huge ruckus of any kind, I simply walked into the store from the street like every other person in that store. And I didn't notice her eyeballing and stopping anyone else to take their bags. So, my opinion, don't bother with this place. Skip it and skip the old hag behind the counter, or else you might end up in an oven at the back of the store. read more

This store is a consignment shop for vintage clothing. There are some good clothes here from a couple of vendors that are reasonably priced like Yoko Vintage and VTGPimp. I usually only hit up their racks. But I do find that quite a lot of the other vendors can run a tad bit overpriced for what their selling. Definitely not paying 30+ dollars for a polyester 90's blouse or $32 for a raggedy tye tied shirt... I think they should have better standards, or be more selective about the type of vendors they have. Other than that I like it. The only thing I'd be wary about is that the staff working the front desk are generally not friendly, and the owner has been either kinda rude or just unfriendly and unpleasant when I've had the few chances of interacting with her. I just stay out of her way and never engage in conversation with her anymore since I don't want my head bitten off or get disemboweled.... Also, it's quite dusty in here so if you are asthmatic or have allergies it might bother you in here. Don't expect great customer service, but if your a fan of vintage definitely check this place out atleast once. That's the only reason why I (and probably many other locals) keep coming back occasionally. It's definitely not for the icy reception from the staff or owner that's for sure. read more

This is probably the biggest thrift store I've ever been to. The other reviewers weren't kidding when they said it was lacking in organization. There are tons and tons of racks and boxes of things strewn about both upstairs and downstairs and it was like an attic on steroids. However at the same time, that was also what I sort of enjoyed about this place because you can literally stay in the store for hours just looking through everything and not get bored! There were a lot of funky and costumey things, old vinyl, dresses, coats, mens suits, and everything in between. As overwhelming as this store is, I really liked it and still plan on visiting next time I'm in town. read more

I had close to $20,000 in expensive clothes that I wanted to consigned with them. The sales lady started to tell me not to expect to receive the cash that the clothes was worth. I told her I spent a lot on the clothes full price, but I'll take whatever is offered. Then she became arrogant and repeated her self saying that I just told you're not going to get what you want. I said who are you to talk to me this way in your tone of voice and you better treat more professional because I won't put up with that like you're better than me. She replied my telling me fuck you and hung up on me . I repeatedly called back to reach a manager and was continuously hung up on. Screw them ! They just lost out on $20,000 on rare consignment clothes. Employees don't treat client like that , especially when using profanity. I will make a report to the better business bureau. No one should be treated like that. read more
