River views, secluded shady spots, shelter spots, and RV hookup spots. At $10 per person per night, you can't beat it. The owners were so kind and accommodating to us. This time we had to make a last minute change to the spot we chose and they were super understanding and gave us the best spot they have! (No, I'm not telling you which one! ) You can book online on their website, but if you haven't been before you should give them a call and have them help you pick out a site depending on the size of your party. (Some spots are on the smaller side.) Never had a bad time at Barefoot, and I don't think I ever will!

We was Upgraded to a very good site by Frank and it was much better then the original one we were going to get. ' We did not ask for a up grade but was offered it. It was really nice. We were PRIMITIVE camping so did not use a shelter or RV part of the camp. ' We had plenty of room to each set up our tents which were all 6 to 8 person each as well as a separate shelter to use as a Cooking/ Storage tent for our food etc. ' Fishing was not very good as we did catch a few keepers but most were in the 6 to 8 inch range. That I think is because the water level in the river i a little low and I think we missed the White Runs up or down the river. There were a Lot of BIG Carp in the area but neither of us care for carp. ' We do plan on going back again. We met some very nice first time campers there. ' The restrooms/showers are very well kept up. They are old but well maintained and MORE then enough VERY HOT water. ' I am including some pictures. I do not know ho many Yelp will let me post but I will post what I think my be appreciated. ' This is a upgrade from my original post as when I did it we had only done a quick drive through to check it out. ' Also we went during the week to avoid the Crowds and weekend party bunch. It was Nice, Peaceful and Quiet. ' If you are to picky and looking for a 5 star resort this is not it. It Is A Fishing Camp and Kayak Camp. Not a resort to go to if you expect all the comforts of home UNLESS you bring your RV. ' It Is Rustic and a great get away. There is NO PHONE or Next to NO CELL or Internet service but they will notify you very fast if they get a Emergency phone call for you and they do have a Emergency Courtesy Phone there. ' I am including pictures of the Ladies rest room / showers as I know that something the ladies all want to know about. Other pictures will be of our cam set up and some I took of the area and the Main Kayak Launch site. ' I recommend IF you are going on a weekend to be sure and make reservations in advance. Holiday Weekends get full really fast and you may end up way out in a primitive camp site if you don't. ' There are 50 Tent sites and some have a metal shelter just in case you need it or want it and others are just like it says,, Primitive, with just a Table and Fire pit. ' You will need to bring your own fire wood if you want a fire as there is NO STORE on the site. The closest is outside at the turn for Barefoot/ State park and San Saba cut off. If you are Military they do offer a Military discount for active, retired etc. Be sure and ask about it. All three of us are retired mil and from Killeen, Temple, and Copperas Cove who went Kayaking there for 3 days and had a great time even though fishing was not so good at the time.

I visited Colorado Bend SP earlier today, and I'll admit that I wasn't expecting it to be so far…read moreout of the way. That's not necessarily a negative, but just something to note. Getting there was very straightforward, but cell reception is very limited there. I was prepared with offline maps so that didn't bother me. The road takes you right to the entrance of the park. There's an unattended booth up front, but I self-registered myself at the check-in station over to the side. There was a pen provided that I used to fill out one of the forms, and dropped it in the locked box with my information. I came here to hike to Gorman Falls today. Part of the road that leads to the trailhead was flooded, but I was able to drive through it with a standard SUV. The road was rocky in some areas and gravel the rest. A high-clearance vehicle isn't needed. There was plenty of parking at the trailhead, along with a restroom with a composting toilet. The trail was well-marked and shaded the first 1/3 of the trail. The rest of the way is exposed to the sun until you get to the fork in the trail that leads to Gorman Falls. There is a bike rack here as the last section is hiking only. The rock face is quite steep towards the bottom, but there were ropes that guided me down. I had my dog with me and I had to carry it at one point just to get down. Because of the rains this past week, water was flowing at the falls. You can't hike to the falls, but there is an observation deck with some benches to relax in the shade here. Returning back up the rock wall was easier than the way down. I also stopped by the park headquarters, about 5 miles down from the entrance of the park. They had a nice selection of gifts and souvenirs for purchase, and plenty of brochures for nearby state parks. The only option for camping here is primitive; there is no plumbing available, other than a spigot for potable water. Overall, this park was well-maintained and I would return for a second visit. Being just 1.5 hours away from NW Austin, Colorado Bend SP makes for a good day trip option with little traffic to and back.

My boyfriend and I made a weekend trip to come here. We spent one day at the park, you really need…read moretwo or more days! We went to three different trails, and both were beautiful. Gorman falls I feel like is the most popular. There were so many people there! We saw the water fall and got to walk along the river bend. Then we went to the spring trail, that place was magical! It looked like a hobbit home!!! E we made it to the spring, but sadly you are not allowed to get in it. Finally we made it to the spice trail, but we were barely able to make it out in time, it was not a good decision, we did have to hike-run about 2 miles in the dark, I was freaking out. So message to all it's make sure you are not hiking too late because it waspitch black. Luckily we had outdoor flashlights and made it, but it felt like it was never ending. The trail is awesome, we crossed over the river several times, it's like a maze to get through, and the top was beautiful, but yeah we didn't get to enjoy the last two miles. Overall this was an awesome park to visit! I'm excited to keep exploring Texas parks

We had a blast and caught big fish. Mike and Annette are the Consummate hosts. They are so sweet , kind and helpful. Mike is THE Man. He helped us so much, right down to baking soda. Ha! Great place,Great hosts.You won't go wrong here either way u decide to stay. Can't wait to get back.

I'll start by saying that our family has been camping at this park for about 20 years, one week…read moreevery year. It's had its share of park hosts and over the years it's improved aesthetically a lot but been hit or miss as far as our experience with the hosts. A couple years ago we swore we'd never be back because the hosts were essentially harassing us over every detail of our group (we tend to take about 10-15 camp sites, which is more than half of the park. This year was the best ever. The hosts, Mike and Annette, were AMAZING. They knew about our experience in the past and knew to give us the ground rules up front, and did it in the nicest way. They were constantly checking in to make sure we were having a great time, they hosted movie nights for the kids, drove the train around the park with the littlest ones, and just made sure our experience was amazing. We already booked a week for next year and can't wait. We hope Mike and Annette stay for many years!

I feel that this is not the most valid review since I've only been here once and I don't own a…read moreboat. I think if you're a boater, you might think it's a 4 or maybe a 5? However, there is so little information about this area that I wanted to help my fellow Yelpers out. This is about 15 minutes away from Marble Falls, TX. It's a quiet peaceful place with a several community parks and boat launching site. I think this might be a great place for boating enthusiasts because it looks like the shores are full of wild life. (Non-resident launching fee is $10) We saw several beautiful birds. If you love deer, this is the place to see them. They are everywhere-tons of does and fawns. We even saw a 3 or 4 point buck. We mainly came here thinking we wanted good views of the lake. Unfortunately, this was not the case as there are many homes that border the water's edge. The best views will probably be from a boat.

Something to know about me is that I will forever try my best at connecting with nature. Whether it be through gardening, bird watching, hiking or just laying out in the grass looking up towards the sky. With that said, I can't imagine ever reviewing any nature spots with less than 4 stars. It's unimaginable. I mean, unless humans are around to ruin it, then automatic 4-5 stars! =) I would like to go back and explore more of the trails (there are numerous well marked trails throughout); several that lead you to the creek which are fairly short and a few that are several miles in length leading you elsewhere throughout the canyon lands. Above all, my absolute favorite aspect of this preserve is how few people visit it. If you want a nice getaway from people where you can go on a nice leisurely hike without screaming children and young adults smoking in packs, Balcones is highly recommended.

This camp help's you become a better person by practicing the 4 R's (Responsibility, reaching out, reasonable risk, and respect). Everybody there is nice and kind. My first day ever going, I was so nervous that I wouldn't make any friends but when I first met my cabin mates, I felt like we've been friends for ever. The cabins don't have any air conditioning but they do have fans and on the bright side it's cold in the morning but that's the fun of it. The bathrooms are grows but that stuff does not matter. What does matter is the fun of camp. Their is always so much to do. You could never get bored. From sitting at the hearth (the place were fine arts is) too climbing the rock wall, your always having fun. There are also many water activity such as pool, paddle sports, free swim, ski, knee boar, tubing, blobbing, etc.

Our 9 year old son just finished his second summer session (3 straight weeks of sleep-away camp in…read morenon-air conditioned cabins with no direct parental contact or tech devices allowed) at Camp Champions on Lake LBJ in Marble Falls and before we even left the property, he was asking us to sign up for next year. That right there is a glowing endorsement, folks. As budget-minded, practical parents, it was a tough sell for us at first. This camp, while phenomenal on the surface with a long history of success since 1967 and amenities & growth experiences galore, costs almost an arm & a leg. I'm saying our whole family of 3 could go to Europe for the cost of the 3 weeks for 1 kid here (an hour's drive from Austin). Why would we make the sacrifice and commit to this quite pricey annual tradition? As Brian J mentions in his excellent review, it's the 4 Rs that Camp Champions models in every staff member and enforces every day in all of the campers: Responsibility, Respect, Reasonable Risk, and Reaching out to others. You will never find another summer program with such enthusiastic and caring owners, staff members, teen counselors, and youth participants. Sure, it all looks great on paper, but it's truly fantastic in practice. Participants learn how to: live with 8 other "siblings"; share responsibility for their living space; maintain a caring community; manage conflict; support others in need; self-regulate; appreciate nature; honor elders; step up as a leader; and try something new & challenging every day. Yes, these are all lessons that we teach within our family, but there's nothing like having these kinds of experiences in an environment outside of the group of people who have to love you because you're a blood relative. The maturation that I see in my singleton child each year after the Camp Champions experience is priceless to me. What else? Fun, of course! The property is gigantic, with every kind of summer activity you can imagine, from swimming (lake & pool) to ropes course to skiing to sailing to climbing to archery to horses to go carts to arts/crafts to gaga & pickle ball. There are also the Trojan/Spartan color battles, evening torch lighting, Sunday vespers, and hundreds of other little inside jokes, rituals, and traditions that make campers feel that they are a part of special tribe for the rest of their lives. We also have access to a system where we can send as many emails as we'd like to our campers, but if your child is like mine, you won't be receiving many letters in return. Both years, we've received a measly 2 postcards the entire time -- he was having too much fun to write home! A note on diversity. This is a desirable quality which needs improvement at Camp Champions, and efforts are underway to do just that. During Summer 2016, campers and counselors from 7 different countries were represented, with about 1/3 of my son's cabin speaking a first language other than English. Recently, a foundation was started to help fund scholarships for campers who could not otherwise afford to attend. There's more to do, but I appreciate that the Baskins recognize this issue and are acting to address it.
