Since starting with Donnie, I've been redefining my relationship with health and fitness & he has played a huge role in that. I've always played sports at a high-level since elementary, and became entirely burned out after playing varsity basketball all four years of high school & travel ball. After graduating, I hated playing and refused to go to the gym since I no longer "required" to go. Since 2011, I've had my short spurts of working out, but nothing stuck because I still despised working out. It wasn't fun. About 3 months ago, I was the heaviest I've ever been at 165 pounds (was consistently 130 pounds prior). That's when I contacted Donnie with my goal of dropping to 145 & overall just wanting to feel better. Fast forward to now: my association with fitness has become immensely more positive (joined a gym to play basketball, am learning to breakdance, look forward to group fitness classes, and am generally more active on a day-to-day basis), my strength has increased & gained muscle, I have a better idea of nutrition goals, and have lost about 5 pounds. I'm looking forward to seeing my results by the end of 2021 & am motivated to make these changes a new lifestyle, while continuing to have fun learning new fitness styles and physical activities!

We all have different goals, yet he's super patient, positive, and effective with each of us. (For example, I didn't want to take comparison photos or do regular weigh ins because of my own psych needs, and he's been totally supportive of that.) All the trainees are also super supportive of each other. It's only gotten better since his rebrand as Torq and relocation to 1420 E Sprague. Donnie and this community are one of my favorite parts of my new life here. What to expect: small group training of 2-6 people, a cool app that helps you track your nutrition and fitness goals, and a trainer who's always on your side. And maybe if you're lucky some boxing circuits!

This isn't your typical gym where you just go to work out--it's a place where you go to genuinely become a better person. Even with a full gym, the experience feels personal, like you're getting one-on-one support. KJay is always smiling and so encouraging, which makes a huge difference. I've only been part of the SCE family for less than a month, but it's already completely changed my perspective on working out. I'm one of the youngest members here at 21 and a college student, but I've seen people from all age ranges, from early 20s to 60s+. Age isn't a barrier--everyone is welcome. I love that you get out of it what you put into your fitness journey. There are no mandatory classes or strict schedules; you can come in whenever you want, and KJay is always super accommodating, trying to be there for your workouts. On some days, I can really push myself, and on others, if I'm not feeling 100%, I know I can take it easier without any judgment. A week after joining SCE, I injured my shoulder pretty badly. It was supposed to take months to heal, but with KJay's support and positive attitude, I was back to my normal life in just two weeks, doing modified workouts. I have been active my whole life playing sports through college and being in the military as well so I have done some great workouts in my life with some amazing trainers and gyms so I don't say what i am about to say lightly. The classes are great for both conditioning and strength. The atmosphere is amazing too. Everyone is encouraging in the classes and pushes each other to reach their max potential while working out. Luke is extremely knowledgeable and knows how to get the most out of you while you are in the gym. His trainers are amazing as well and do a great job adjusting to each individual at the gym's strengths. It is nice for me to know that I will be coached and corrected to proper form and told to go down in weight to make sure I am not hurting myself and getting the movement right. I had never done really anything with kettle bells so this was all new to me so the coaching has been great from all the trainers at The Lab. I look forward to times I go there because I know I will pushed to my max and never forced to do a movement that hurts me because they are great at giving you a variation or something different to do in place of that movement.
