Stopped in for a drink on the way home good atmisfear. Bar tenders were unfrendly. Unlike other places ive been in in the neighborhood.

Good place for cheap drinks. It's about the best thing anyone can say about it. Rex Tavern is one of the local dive bars in Jefferson Park. Also it's convenient to the Metra so you can hop up here. The hours are kind of weird. A place like this is mostly for locals. It's pretty convenient to get to by public transportation though because it's close to the Metra station. This is also close to Jefferson Inn, another local place for cheap drinks and good times. Lots of beers on draft and plenty more in bottles and cans. There's usually some kind of specials on drinks or whatever. Last time it was $5 Jack cocktails. The food menu is limited to chips and stuff. For sure it's a good place to get drunk on the cheap. It's just not open Sundays for some reason. That's the only bad thing. read more

I have heard through the grapevine that Rex Tavern would be bedecked with Christmas decorations every year. Well, this is the year that I would finally check it all out. Rex Tavern is located on Milwaukee Avenue, just around the corner from the Jefferson Park Blue Line station. Our party of six decided to meet here on a December weeknight for happy hour beers, and our experience was enhanced by all the colorful lights and ornaments, along with the kind service of our attentive bartender. I like Rex Tavern, and they get extra points from me for how cool they decorate for Christmas. They do a fantastic job, which makes it a great spot to meet friends and have a few drinks during the holidays. We did just that this year, and we liked the laid-back environment to catch up. i'm gonna start this by saying that i truly do enjoy the vibes of this bar. however, i don't understand why every single time my friend group and i go in, we get questioned, refused, and never get accepted into this place. i don't know whether it's because they don't like happily tipsy people enjoying their company, or whether there are other reasons at play. i will say, simone, a bartender at this bar, has been so so nice to us whether it be here or another place she works. but every single time we come, it's a problem. at this point, i don't understand why they refuse. they need to do better. i haven't felt more disrespected by a bar in my life. like it's not that serious y'all. i hope that y'all strive to do better. all love thank you :) read more

Been here about 4 times and never been able to get a drink. Came in with an out of town friend and she forgot her ID, not seated at bar and she wasn't going to drink anyways (visibly pregnant) and was still told she wasn't allowed to be there rather brusquely. Other times the service just takes forever to order or we are "forgotten". To get a drink means running after the bartender and for a place that doesn't have that many people inside is disappointing. When you finally get through the bartender its like they are doing you a favor paying attention to you and how dare you interrupt their 10 minute long conversation. Other time was able to put an order in and 30 minutes later "oh I forgot!". This is a super convenient bar for us so we were really hoping to become regulars, its super close to the blue line and we always pass it to or from work. It seems that regulars rule here- so I guess if your willing to put up the work to become one then this is the bar for you. I wish I could leave a great review, the decor is always top notch and the bar itself is nice. You can bring outside food here and just order drinks which is always a plus in my book. My partner and I really like Rex. - cozy lighting - nice bartenders - convenient location when going to and from o'hare - DOGGOS - good drinks and prices - food allowed Haven't been able to go in a while but look forward to going back. My wife and I just moved into the area a few blocks from this pub. We took our 19 month old Labraheeler here on busy Saturday night and it was awesome to be able to enjoy some good beer and listen to great tunes along side our four legged best friend. We often go to Logan Square and Wicker Park for our evening fun, but the vibe in this tavern seems much closer to the younger crowds we are surrounded by over there. And thats way cool since one of us is a millennial. A few patrons stopped by to say hi and pet our Rollo and who can blame them? With a handsome face like his, he is quite a popular guy! read more

Awesome place! I came with a few buddies last night just to kill some time and as soon as we walked in, the vibe set in and we were pleasantly surprised by the bar's ambiance. Upon entering I saw a dog in my peripheral, assuming it was a service dog. I was pleasantly thrilled to find out this was a dog bar! We're all dog owners so this hit home for us. There are pictures of dogs everywhere and all the staff and members are dog-friendly so dog lovers/owners rejoice- this is the perfect spot to bring your dog! The staff is really friendly, they have a variety of beer on tap, and even offer dog treats to take home. I definitely was not expecting to step into a dog bar despite the place being named "Rex" I will be coming here again for sure! Great place to chill, drink, eat, and watch some games while hanging out with your dog and being surrounded by a friendly crowd! 5/5 read more

I went to check out this new bar after I got off of the train. Very friendly bar tender was working and told us about the place. They like their rock music in this bar which is not my fav, but I didn't mind it. They have a decent tap selection and have a nice variety of mixers such as ginger beer and Fresca. Hard finds at a neighborhood bar. They would like to see crowds gather there to watch Bears games. They will open early on game days. I plan to go there for one of the upcoming games. If you live nearby or passing through Jeff Park, give this bar a try. read more

This is by far the best bar on the NW side. It is classy yet divey. The music is diverse from rap to rock, but always good. They decorate to the nines. And Ginger is on my list of best bartenders in Chicago. They have good beers and seasonal artisan cocktails, but also good old domestics so everyone is happy. This place pleases everyone. And they have a cute patio that is smoker friendly. Oh, and dog friendly and you can bring in outside food? Come, sit, drink. read more

Cute little dive bar in somewhat the middle of nowhere. Drinks were strong and cheap and the service was great. We've been back a couple of times and haven't had any issues; it never seems to be too crowded and the bartenders have always been efficient, funny & sweet. Great times! read more

I have been here two times so far. I have to say that this is my new go-to spot! It's super chill, cozy, dog-friendly, great staff, and the drinks are yummy! I also love that you can order in your own food or they will cook a frozen pizza for you on the spot. Awesome! Prices are very reasonable and the location is great- right off the Jefferson Park blue line. The crowd is chill and very friendly. Dog Friendly!!!! The staff is very friendly and quite patient with playful pups. They even gave my dog some puppy treats and had a bowl of water available for her. I probably wouldn't recommend bringing very large breeds simply because the place may not be big enough for them to run around and not disrupt too much. Your dog should be well-behaved and potty trained if you decide to have them accompany you, but that kind of goes without saying. It's great to have a year-round puppy friendly place to hang out with our four legged friends! Definitely give this place a visit! read more

I used to live in this area, now I'm a suburbanite of the sw burbs. I think this place used to be a polish martini bar? We wanted to kill some time on NYE before heading over to Gale Street Inn across the street to ring in the new year. It was pretty dead around 9pm...totally chill place to hang out and stuff. Miller Lites are $3 - they require a card to open a tab, but they put everything on the card without asking if you wanted to use the card to pay for your tab. Some places give you payment options. Ok, ,moving on... We scored chocolate covered pretzels in a pint glass in front of us, as the rest of the patrons got regular ol' pretzel rods. That was a nice plus! I visited again this past weekend around midnight on a Saturday... pretty low key, my kind of place, if I were to live in the area again or looking for a place to hang out in the area. This is your typical Chicago neighborhood bar, but I wouldn't call it a "dive bar". The place smelled of frozen pizza the entire time we were there, but I didn't notice anyone eating it. The bathrooms were clean. This isn't a a fancy place, just your typical ol' neighborhood bar...I have nothing to rave about yet no complaints either. read more

I've been to Rex several times over the past month, when I've worked late, and the boyfriend wants to pick me up from the Jeff Park Blue Line stop. Every time, the atmosphere is just what we want, every time the music hits the spot, and this time, our bartender gave us a free (frozen) pizza! Exposed brick walls, Christmas lights, solid wood bar. This is a storefont bar, long and narrow but cozy. The place is clean and always filled with inspiring decor (for the season or otherwise.) A neighborhood go to and perfect place to meet someone half way. On Milwaukee in sight of the NW-Metra and 100 feet from Jefferson Park Transit Center (i.e. Blue line and buses) at Gale Street. This is my new favorite bar in Jefferson Park. The crowd is 20-30 year olds and the service was amazing. Drink selection and cocktails were very good. Similar to the kind of bar you'd find in neighborhoods like Logan Square and Wicker Park. The decorations and ambiance were welcoming and fun. Definitely recommend! read more

Finally a bar with young people and great vibes! If you don't look out the window, you might think you're in Logan Square for a while. Awesome neighborhood spot right off the Blue Line (CTA). Great place to hang out if you miss your Metra train. The staff are friendly and attentive 7 days a week. Drink specials vary but in general they're affordable and a good selection. I often order food (GrubHub) and have it delivered there. Great place to watch your favorite teams all year round. It's VERY dog friendly. I've closed this place enough to know it's a solid late night spot. First time visiting this little bar and right off the bat I like the vibe. Feels like a local spot not some trendy hipster bar. Good selection on the juke box, decent beer options and friendly staff. I'd give them 5 stars if they offered better food options. But when you have no kitchen and you're limited to a toaster oven, I guess the frozen pizza will do at 1am. Not sure why there are so many high rankings. This bar was kind of trashy in the people who hung out here and they let dirty dogs run all over the the bar. The bathroom was atrocious and the place was freezing as they had all windows and doors open with late night cool summer wind. They have a lounge area that is small and too close to the bar which gives it a unusual look and this is the problem with the place. It tries to be all types of bars. The dog thing is filthy and should to be encouraged. They do have some good tap selections though read more

Also, at the end when they were closing they were telling us to leave and pushing us to finish our drinks and to get out.
