When I'm back in Chicago I always make a point to go here. Was happy when they reopened under new management that the quality was the same and they even added great music. Sadly my last visit was terribly disappointing. The ribs that were always piping hot and perfect weren't that hot and overcooked to the point you couldn't tear one off without the bone completely separating. Had to cut them. The Mac and cheese wasn't to my taste, might have been better if it wasn't room temperature. Like myself several of my friends have been customers since we were kids. When asked after, those of us who had ribs were disappointed as well. Sent them an email asking if I could share this with the owner and was ignored. Very sad.

We Had An Amazing Experience At Gale Street Inn! The Food Was Incredible, And The Drinks Were Just As Good. Our Server, Alex, Really Went Above And Beyond To Make The Birthday We Were Celebrating Feel Special. He Gave Great Recommendations, Was Incredibly Welcoming, And Made The Whole Night Even More Enjoyable. Overall, The Service And Atmosphere Were Outstanding. We'll Definitely Be Back!

A group of us went to the Gale Street Inn last night to enjoy some BBQ Ribs. We were a group of 5 adults and a 2 month old who tagged along. Three of us currently reside in Florida. However, we 3 are former Chicagoans who have dined here before when it was under different ownership. As we entered the restaurant the entry way looked as it did before ... until ... we entered the main room. It appeared updated , more modern , with low lighting creating the perfect ambiance for a romantic dinner for two or an enjoyable venue for a group setting. There are other rooms in the restaurant that offer space for larger accommodations and a large Bar area is included. We were seated after a short wait as we had a reservation. It was a Friday night and the restaurant was full of patrons. Service was a little slow due to the restaurant being filled to capacity. Menus were presented and we perused the menu knowing we were going to order the Ribs - except - for one kill Joy who ordered fish & chips ? Really ? In a rib joint and the guy orders fish ?! Who invited this guy anyway ? LOL. Our food was brought to our table by wait staff who left their smile at home. Nothing ensures a nice TIP like a bright smile accompanied with a pleasant personality. Nevertheless, I left a 24% TIP ... It's Christmas ... shrug . The RIBS ... I thought my ribs were just okay , not fall off the bone ribs. Nothing to write home about. Others in the group disagreed and said the ribs were delicious and ... wait for it ... "Fall off the bone" LOL The food was served with additional sides not included with the meal but at extra cost. I even had to ask for bread & butter. Baked potatoes ? Extra ! Still , the dinner was reasonably priced. No room for dessert. We were all stuffed. Then the check came. I passed it to the kid. He spit at me. I guess that was a NO ! I offered to arm wrestle him for the check. I even offered best 2 out of 3. He spit at me again. The nerve. So I manned up and paid the check. Despite my grumbling over my ribs everyone else was satisfied and we had an enjoyable evening dinning out. The restaurant itself is very nice and in a good location. I might be back ... Hmmm

Wow! Beautiful, elegant restaurant. Our server was amazing she was very attentive, gave great suggestions and directed the whole meal like a pro. Dinner was delicious from starters to the finish there was not one thing that I did not like. I had the arugula beet salad which was very creative, short rib pierogi is a must. You have to get the short rib pierogi. Pistachio martini amazing! Lovely restaurant. I wish I found it sooner!

My wife and I went to Gale Street Inn this evening, and we honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience. With new ownership and having reopened less than a month ago, it already feels like a place that truly gets it. Silvia was our server, and she was wonderful -- warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. On top of that, the owners, Paulo and Jesse, welcomed us with open arms. That personal touch meant so much and immediately made us feel at home. Everything was just right: the service, the food, the entertainment, and the overall vibe. Nothing felt forced or overdone -- just a great meal in a welcoming, lively space where you can tell a lot of care has gone into every detail. We had the full rack of ribs, broccolini, fully-loaded baked potato, and the burrata appetizer, and all were excellent! We will absolutely be back, next time with our kids. We're already telling our neighbors, and my parents are officially putting it on their radar too. We truly hope this neighborhood anchor brings even more energy and business to this part of Jeff Park -- it's exactly the kind of place that helps a community thrive.

Just love the lighting inside. Our waiter was attentive, got us our drinks and wasn't to eager to have us order right away. Our party of four ordered the ribs. They were all made to perfection. They came saucy and i put more on. I had a backed potato with mine which was Huge!! The waiter then brought all of us warm towels because you know your gonna need them!! Go for the good ribs stay for the speakeasy vibe and jazzy music!!

UPDATE! NEW OWNER SAME GREAT QUALITY. So excited children could once again join the meal. The updates to the place are gorgeous very chic and still very cool supper club vibes. It was great to see Paulo brought back people who had been working their for years. The food was phenomenal service impeccable. Will be back soon!

Ask the Community - Gale Street Inn - Chicago

Just made a reservation with you for May. Was surprised all you're doing is seating in the bar. Is this COVID related? Are you doing construction in your dining room? Very confused; we were just there in your dining room in November.

Thanks for asking. It’s relative to staffing at this time. See you in May!

Is there a rib special any night? Thank-you.

Although we are from the area, we had never visited before, and the photos immediately caught our attention. The bar fit our vibe perfectly, and after visiting a few times, we knew it was the right place for us. We rented both spaces: the main bar upstairs and Nightshade, the speakeasy downstairs. Moonflower has a small stage in the main bar, which we used for our ceremony. The space already has so much character that it needed very little decorating. We brought small flower vases and an altar piece that the bride and her now mother in law made together. After the ceremony, we held cocktail hour and served food buffet style in the main bar. Later, everyone moved downstairs to Nightshade. Its lounge atmosphere and dance floor were perfect for our 50 to 60 guests. Some people relaxed around the cocktail tables while others danced, so everyone could enjoy the night in their own way. Moonflower's event organizer, Morgan, was wonderful. She made the entire planning process feel easy and was a joy to work with. She helped turn our ideas into reality, assisting with day of logistics, décor, beverage packages, and every question that came up. She was always responsive and available. Morgan also helped us think through details that had not occurred to us, including coffee for our guests, explaining the parking situation, contacting nearby businesses about using their lots, and recommending DJs. We ultimately hired one of the DJs she suggested. Her extra support was incredibly helpful and took a great deal of stress out of planning. If you have not tried Moonflower's drinks, you are missing out. Their regular cocktail menu is fantastic, and our experience was even more special because of a custom cocktail session with Zach. He created signature drink options for each of us based on our tastes and favorite cocktails. Every option was spectacular, and the final drinks felt personal and special. We chose Funeral Potatoes for the food. Since they already handle the food at Moonflower, we were able to try many dishes beforehand. Our guests raved about everything. We especially recommend the brussels sprouts, deviled eggs, and caprese sandwiches. Alexis, who heads up Funeral Potatoes, was also extremely helpful with selecting the menu. The only outside food we brought in was our wedding cake. The entire staff was phenomenal. Everyone treated the occasion with the perfect balance of care, professionalism, and fun. The night went off without a hitch and was truly one of the best nights of our lives. Moonflower was also extremely reasonable compared with other venues we considered in the city, especially with an open bar and food available on site. Street parking was plentiful, and none of our guests had trouble finding a spot. For anyone looking for a relaxed wedding for 50 to 60 people with a memorable lounge atmosphere, fantastic staff, buffet style food, and exceptional cocktails, Moonflower should be at the top of your list.

Street parking was easy to find which is a plus. Its walk-ins only but my party of 6 were able to get a table no problem on a Friday night. To drink, I started with the Oolong Martinez. It was good but way too strong for me so I just gave it to my husband lol. I opted for the Kiss & Tell instead except I asked for no mezcal. Much lighter and refreshing! I believe they have a downstairs lounge called "Nightshade" which serves their own special menu. My goal is to go downstairs next time! Their food is GAS!!! Everything I ate was a 5/5 for me - especially the party fries and the moon burger. We got the deviled eggs and funeral potatoes for the table and I was blown away (both of these menu items rotate flavors monthly). Also FYI - They have a photobooth!!!! I love photobooths!
