Reyes Mexican Grill & Bar has a nice selection on their menu that you don't find in many other Mexican restaurants in the area. They also offer a liter sized masskrug so you can have a proper sized Bavarian portion of beer. They do have some beautifully carved tables and booth chairs like a few of the area Mexican restaurants seem to have that I haven't really seen in many other places. The service is typically very fast and they are very good about refilling your drinks and taking care of things with any special requests you might have for your food. Overall this is one of the better Mexican food experiences in the Laurel, MS area. read more

Wow! What a find in Laurel, Mississippi!!! We were in town and were looking for something other than fast food, chain restaurants and buffets. So, I grabbed my trusty Yelp! app and came upon this gem in my search. We were not disappointed!! I'll start by saying our guests, who live in Laurel, said "we'll go, but we don't like Mexican food." Welllllll, they ended the meal by saying, "We will DEFINITELY be back!" Since it was all of our first time, we wanted to try several dishes. We started with frozen margaritas - one pineapple and one peach. They were simply wonderful and priced 2-for-1. They weren't over the top sweet, but had lots of flavor. For the food, we ordered the Plato Especial, which included a Chile relleno, enchilada, taco, tostada and one more item that I cannot remember. It was accompanied by rice and black beans (you can also opt for refried pinto beans). We also ordered a backed potato with ground beef, which included cheese, peppers and onions. And finally, the House Quesadilla with chicken and shrimp. While each of tried each dish, we quickly laid claim to our favorites, and the only sound heard thereafter was "ummm", "oh my!", "OMG!", etc. The ambiance was great l! It wasn't overly crowded, so we were seated quickly. The were was a good crowd, with lots of conversation and laughter. It was my type of vibe for sure! In short, EVERYTHING was incredibly delicious! The flavors were perfect, the portions were HUGE and the per person price was an average of less than $12 including the tip!! Whether you're in Laurel to catch a glimpse of the folks from the HGTV show, "Hometown". Or, you are visiting friends/family; or, simply passing through; take the exit for Route 84 (16th Avenue). When you see Applebee's, turn onto the access road that runs beside Applebee's to enter the strip plaza where the restaurant is located. It's worth the trip!! read more

Without a doubt, the best Mexican restaurant in the area. The food, service and decor are all authentic and exceptional. The Burrito di Pollo with refried beans and rice is classic Mexican fare. The Mucho Burrito was a twist I had not seen before. The service was fantastic. The motif was also a twist with traditional and day of the dead. We found this on Yelp in Laurel. We're from Call sonwe Know Mexican food. This was close to and I will actually go back. I had a Chicken Avocado Burrito and was Pleasantly surprised. He had a Shrimp Burrito it came smothered in cheese sauce. Sadly his didn't come with rice etc but mine had rice and a veggie garnish. Again I will return and have no complaints. Let me begin by saying this place was very busy on a Thursday evening, filled with couples and families. Clearly, a popular place with a lot going for it. But for us, it wasn't our best meal during our visit to Laurel. Our chips and salsa were delivered literally as we were sitting down, which should have indicated great service, but after that, it was spotty. Took a long while to get our drinks and place our food order. Staff was friendly though, when they were around, and they willingly brought us more chips and salsa while we waited. My drink, the Acapulco, was beautiful but not very tasty. The rim was sugared (part of the beauty) but the grapefruit juice could have been balanced better the pineapple juice (which I didn't taste at all). Hubby got a beer -- it was cold, so nothing to complain about there. I really enjoyed my Reyes bowl (rice, beans, all the fixings except tortillas) with shrimp. Good enough to take home the leftovers! But Hubby's meal of chili verde was disappointing. Came with rice and beans, but nothing else (he hoped for sour cream and avocado -- should have ordered it on the side). The pork was too salty to his taste and the salsa verde tasted like it came from a bottle. The menu is very expansive, however, so you should be able to find anything you want. Let's face it: we stopped at a Mexican joint in northern Mississippi. Maybe we were expecting too much. read more

Just like any other Mexican restaurant, nothing too special. Our waiter didn't speak English that well and never checked on us (no refill on drinks, didn't bring extra napkins, how's the food, nada). I think his name is Ishmael. They have gluten hidden inside their food. My friend and I went and we had a reaction. Make sure you ask and make you speak Spanish when you go. The restaurant is the driveway right before AppleBees (or after, depending on which way you're coming from) and hidden in the back, off the main road. The floor was clean, but our booth seats were dirty, that's not covid clean to me. No masks required to enter or leave. Go hungry because everything is super sized. read more

What a great stop! We picked it because it had a pretty good rating on yelp and we were new to town,and most everything else was closed. Jazmine our server was awesome. When I asked her what her favorite was she told me Arroz con Pollo - so that is what I ordered. Husband ordered the chimichanga. My dish was absolutely amazing we took half of it home and will eat it for breakfast in the morning. Husband loved his chimichanga. Jazmine was wonderful, attentive, and the food was great. The food here is first rate. If you love thin, crisp, fresh chips to dip in salsa, you will love this place as I do! Our appetizer was one of their many nacho plates. My husband ordered a chicken taco salad, while I chose the loaded baked potato. The portions were so large that we needed 2 large "to go" boxes. The service was fast & efficient--very little wait time for anything--especially drink refills (and my husband can keep a waiter busy with his many water glass refills). It appeared to be mainly locals dining there (very family friendly), which we loved since we are from South Carolina & appreciate restaurants that locals frequent. I've spent probably half my life in Arizona and California where the Mexican food is really good and authentic. This was neither. The chips were ok if a bit salty but the salsa had a too-smooth, out of a jar texture and flavor. The chili relleno was at least done in a proper chili (Anaheim, I believe) but was stuffed with meat, not cheese, and not deep fried long enough to get the filling hot. The tamale looked like it had been commercially produced, as it was too perfect with none of the rustic feel of handmade tamales. The filling was like a round insert slipped into the masa. There was way too much masa for the filling, and the whole thing was overly salty. And my service was only so-so. If you like the food there, keep enjoying, but it's not authentic in my experience and I won't be back. read more

I had lunch here earlier this week. Actually this was my second visit to this restaurant. The first was about a year ago or so and it was right after they opened. The experience was below average but I decided not to review it at that time due to its newness. For lunch, I ordered the lunch chicken fajitas. The chips and red salsa came out first. They were good with the salsa being very salty. I gave them a 3. About 10 minutes later the fajitas came out. I was pleased with the portion size of chicken, onions and bell peppers on the barely sizzling platter. That's okay because the food was still hot. It was a good meal. It also came within refried beans. I wish they had charro beans. Good flavor and portion sizes and I rated it at a 3.5. I would order it again. Table service was good too (3.5). I am going to round down at this time and give a 3 however when I return in the future I will consider increasing the score if merited. I will say that I would be glad to order the chicken fajitas again and I will return to this restaurant. I recommend that you come here if in Laurel and wanting Tex Mex. read more

I've read that some "Elites" that live in the Southwest U.S. think that this place is less than par. Well, I'm a chef; I grew up in Texas, lived in the Valley, and know Mexican and Tex-Mex pretty well. Reyes has the most authentic and tasty Mexican and Tex-Mex in town. I've eaten here for several years and it has always been quality. As of late, I had the Chile Relleno which literally means stuffed pepper. It is a poblano pepper here as was the original used in the Puebla, Mexico recipe. But mine was not battered---it was grilled. This was no surprise to me because many times in Northern Mexico it is done this way and personally I prefer it without the batter. I did ask for stuffed cheese instead of beef though and also the black beans instead of the refries. Somehow that mistranslated to the cook and it came out stuffed with the black beans and refries on the side. What a Delight!! This was one of the best Chile Relleno I have ever had in the States! The beans were still textured but creamy and delicious. The 2 peppers were al dente and perfect. Also it did not have any red sauce on top of it which was described on the menu but it was fantastic as served. Queso fresco topped it in favorable fashion. The refries are made in house. These were some of the best I have ever had in U.S. as well. Again full of flavor and not just dumped out from a can. You can actually taste the spice and bacony lard tossed about in these premium creamy pintos. A traditional lettuce salad garnished the middle of the dish with lettuce, tomato, and a great guacamole. The Mexican rice was simple but good. My partner had the chicken fajitas. The well-known tasty Tex-Mex treat was reported to be of good quality and satisfaction. The light chips and medium heat salsa are free flowing and good. The horchata unfortunately was not of good quality and a commercial watery let down. But overall this is a solid Mexican food restaurant with good prices, fairish service, and worth with the trip outside of Mexico or the Valley. The thing that "Experts and Elites" have to remember is that these places cater to an American audience. If you go to a smaller taqueria (as I have reviewed), you may find things there you cannot here. Don't expect to find true barbacoa with cheek meat and ojos (eyes) mixed in or even menudo here. For that it depends on the region the owners and cooks are from--some are from different parts of Latin America. Same as if you visit the regional traditionally Mexican territories in the U.S. and their versions of ingredient recipes. But for Mississippi, this is a good one for many miles around. read more
