Review on Autentico Cubano pick up order only. Hankering for a Cubano sandwich, I chose Rey's since I had yet to try out their version. I found ordering over the phone straight-forward and the sandwich was ready in a reasonable amount of time. The restaurant itself is on the small size, with seating both inside and outside, and I observed a number of patrons enjoying their "plates". The Cubano sandwich contained the ingredients listed and was pressed as expected. The flavor was solid and nothing stood out. French fries were included with the order and were regular, not seasoned. I only tried one. Picking up my order and payment was straight-forward. The price was reasonable. I might return to try something different in the future. Rey's Cuban Cafe is easily my favorite Cuban spot in the north Orlando area. The staff are always incredibly friendly and the food is consistently delicious. Food: this is authentic home-style cuban food, and you can taste that in every bite. My personal favorite menu item is the media noche (basically a cuban on sweet bread) - it is DELICIOUS. Every sandwich comes with a side of fries, but I always like to add on a side of congri (rice and beans). My second favorite item would have to be the empanadas in any flavor - they're all wonderful. Storefront: the cafe is tucked away in a Winn Dixie plaza in Casselberry. It doesn't look like much, but we all know the best food comes from those places. Customer service: the staff is always welcoming and friendly and the food always comes out rather quickly, usually within 15 minutes. It is at these little hole-in-the-wall type restaurants that you will often find the best food. Rey's Cuban Cafe is one of those hole-in-the-wall type places that offers a great menu of Cuban favorites. Their empanadas are definitely a treat and something that I would recommend. All in all, Rey's Cuban Cafe is a great place to grab a Cuban feast. I popped in to grab a few Cubans and empanadas to go and this place was packed! It was Saturday around lunch and they had a line out the door. The Cubans came with fries and were absolutely delicious! However, the empanada was the real winner. I got the Cuban deluxe yesterday (Saturday, 22 March). It's $1.50 more than the regular Cuban. It's supposed to come with added meats with lettuce and tomato. Didn't seem to be a whole lot of meat period and no lettuce and tomato. It tasted good, but I would stick with the regular. read more

This restaurant is nestled within a strip mall that is pretty easy to miss and notice. Once inside, it's a very small and cozy and gives you that homestyle feel. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the food was very decent, and the prices were very fair. It's one of those places that lacks the extra fan-fare but hits big in the right places. The cuban Sandwich was good, but my only complaint was the Pernil. It seemed to be medium slices of pale pork which threw me off a bit. The fries were a small quantity of shoestring fries (which I do like). Overall, it's one of those mom and pop, family style places that just does what it's supposed to do, nothing more and nothing less. I enjoyed my experience and would definitely like to visit earlier next time for the breakfast (which looked and smelled good as I was being nosey and looking at the other customers tables). read more

He ordered the ultimate Cuban and a beef empanada, I opted for the tres leches since I was jonesin' for some sugar. Guys. For my first time having a Cuban sandwich, it was the most delicious food I'd ever eaten, but let me get to the real reason for this review: that tres leches. It was in a tiny cup, but it was so flavorful and rich that that's all you'll need. All of the flavors melded together in milky smooth goodness that I barely gave my boyfriend a few bites before inhaling it. Great location, great food. At work, I heard a lot of good things Rey's Cuban Cafe and as a Yelper who loves to eat good food and live to write about it; ordering food from here became an instant bucket list in my quest to eat everywhere in Altamonte Springs/Maitland area. So, I went with the Skirt Steak with White Rice, Black Beans and Yuca Fries. And boy, it truly didn't disappoint. First off, their black beans taste amazing enough to just eat the beans without any rice. Great flavor and the white rice complimented very well. The Yuca Fries were NOT greasy, had a great crunch and the soft texture of Yuca; with the fried version having a nice crust to it. Their Skirt Steak, despite me ordering it well-done was NOT dry at all! Well done steak many times taste tough and dry, but this one was well done and juicy! That's when you know you just ate great steak. The picture you see is my lunch and it was sooo good that I annihilated it :). If you're in the Maitland area and are looking for great takeout Spanish food; you NEED to come to Rey's. It was great enough to give it 5 stars with no hesitation. And the price was great. That lunch along with a Passion Fruit Juice Smoothie was only $12! Yes, $12! It was definitely worth the price of admission. So ever since I moved to Central Florida 8 years ago (time flies), I've been visiting this little Cuban restaurant nearby. At first it was phenomenal home cooking that tasted like mom's food. Gradually through the years it's been in decline, I would say especially since just before the start of Covid. I went for lunch today because I was starving and I was in the neighborhood. I ordered "bistro empanizado" (breaded steak). This is a sirloin that's been sliced thin (but NOT this thin). It's covered in bread crumbs and fried. Out of the 4 pictures the first 3 is what got served to me (styrofoam takeaway container and plastic utensils even when I stated I was eating there). The "steak" was so thin that it looks more like a slice of roast beef that had been partially dehydrated and made into beef jerky - tough as leather! At times my plastic knife was not able to cut through some areas. In addition it has been left in the fryer or under a heat lamp too long. I ate until my hunger dissipated and threw the rest away. Good enough food with inconsistent seasoning. The Congri side dish was prepared nicely. Tostones side dish were two small tostones, that tasted fairly fresh. The Cuban sandwich was okay, I'm used to it being left on la plancha longer. The tostones and French Fries didn't taste like they had any salt at all, which is fine. The problem was the Vaca Frita, it was the worst part of the meal. On its own it would have been completely unacceptable due to the heavy salt. I mixed it with the congri to make it more palatable. The waitress never refilled my water. I felt like a balsero traveling open mouthed across the ocean with no water to drink. If you are from Miami, you are probably used to good Cuban food. There are good options here in Orlando. I wish this place stepped up their game just a little. They're a small step away from greatness. I won't return. But don't let me stop you from trying this place. To each his own, you may love it! I might have just caught them on an off day. read more

I was running some errands while my friends were at work. While Yelp was hyping up Winter Park, I wanted something further away and I was going to hit up Cool Stuff so figured looking around there. I went into Rey's advertising new management. I was the only gringo in the restaurant as I entered with an older Cuban gentleman who was a regular and started up a conversation with some other men. If I needed a sign this was legit, here it was. You order at the counter and not going to lie it's not an easy decision given the options. Platos with bistec a la milanesa, picadillo, pechuga de pollo and all well priced. Sandwiches had the authentic options like the Cuban and media noche and pan con bistec WITH THE STICKS! And my sugary heart was eyeing the desserts which included tres leches and flan de coco. But I had to get one my favorites. Croqueta Preparada - I LOVE croquetas de jamon and them on a sandwich was my high school go to. With this you have the croquetas but they also add ham and cheese. ¡Muy Feliz! These came with a small order of fries which was a nice touch too. I swallowed all these down with 2 other favorites - Materva for the meal followed by a cafecito to keep me away. As I had ordered in rough Spanish, the fantastic staff asked if I spoke it. Un poco. But I think they understood I knew my Cuban food. Between the authentic menu, the authentic coffee and authentic atmosphere I had to recommend Rey's to my friends. Next visit I will force them to go with me if they haven't been. read more

My favorite Cuban restaurant in Orlando! I'm originally from Miami and have lived here for 2 years and this place is as close to home as it gets! The service and atmosphere feel like your typical Cuban spot in Miami. The food is cooked perfectly and not expensive either! I've noticed a lot of Cuban places Americanize the food and jack up the prices because it's "exotic" but this place keeps it real.
