My basement flooded so I called Color & Arches using the HomeAdvisor site which lists this business…read moreas based in Lynnewood, WA and has a photo of Shawn Moynihan on the site. It also stated it was able to do the work I needed to include mounting my flat screen TV and some other handyman type jobs I needed done. My walls had just been painted, the drywall and insulation was in place and I had just had the basement floor sealed with a marble finish for $4300. All Shawn had to do was put in the baseboards and hang the doors. I was leaving for a week so I gave him a key since Color & Arches is licensed, bonded and insured. When I returned 10 days later, I was handed a bill for $2132 and the work was only partially done. He had also hired his son to move furniture (very little since I hadn't moved in completely) for 5 hours and also his wife for 7 hours. He claimed to have worked 25 hours but had installed less than 45 linear feet of baseboard. It just got worse from there. I had invested too much time to fire him so asked him to pick up the pace. He seemed to work best when I wasn't at home and would charge me for times when he would forget something and go to the hardware store to buy it. Eventually, I told him I no longer needed him to build a closet and he was angry. He plastered two small holes in a bedroom that had been used to mount a TV but used so much plaster that the entire wall now needs to be repainted. He was not asked to do any work in that room at all. He didn't cover the vent when he drywalled so I must now have my vents cleaned and my furnace serviced. He cut the baseboards on the basement floor and left a 21 inch gash on my newly stained and sealed floor. The baseboards are poorly jointed and painted and must be removed and redone. They are not sanded. The putty job is messy and amateurish. I gave him the half gallon of A-100 paint that the painters had used the month before to paint the walls of the small room he was working on (the room is only 10'x18'). He then bought an interior paint that was the same color but a different type and it didn't match. He proceeded to paint large areas of the room and hallway with it and then told me that he would paint the entire basement for a mere $40 an hour. There was caulk all over my floor and toxic caulk left on the floor that I had to clean up before my dog could get to it. He drilled holes in my living room wall to mount the TV and missed the studs. He misread the directions on the wall mount and couldn't mount it so he had to return the mount. Now, I have a dozen holes in my newly painted living room wall and an unmounted TV. And then things got shady... He had me pay him through Paypal. He asked me to pay him through "friends and family" to avoid the fee. I don't use Paypal so I didn't realize that meant that I PAY A FEE! He then told me that he wanted to do me a favor by avoiding a paper trail. I explained that I had no problem with a paper trail and I needed receipts for my taxes. He assured me that he was indeed bonded, licensed and insured but couldn't produce paperwork but referred me back to HomeAdvisor, Angie's List and Color & Arches. He then billed me for another 23 hours (we are now at 72 hours and we still aren't done! And he's hired his wife and another friend yet again and billed me for their work!) and I fired him. I research the address in Lynnewood to discover that it's his wife's home address. I called Vernon Lovelace, owner of Color&Arches, who stated that he only has an Angie's List account: he doesn't have a HomeAdvisor account. He had no idea why Shawn would be doing this! He is willing to come to my home, see the work and make things right! That's the last I heard from Vernon Lovelace. I did discover that Shawn Moynihan has never been a licensed contractor in Washington State: EVER. I called in to Washington State Department of Labor and Industry and reported it. I also had my locks changed. I am out thousands of dollars. I am out money I paid to Color & Arches (or Shawn Moynihan) and I still have to have my baseboards removed and reinstalled, my vents cleaned, my furnace serviced as well as have my entire basement painted and my floor repaired. I am also out $300 for replacing my locks. Color & Arches is licensed, bonded and insured but I haven't seen a dime and HomeAdvisor supposedly stands behind their contractors but I haven't seen that either (this is a also a "Don't use HomeAdvisor" review). I wouldn't hire this company. They hire unlicensed contractors that are working illegally on the side and they are turning a blind eye to it. They are not standing behind their company's name or reputation. There is something very disreputable going on here. And the whole time Shawn was in my home, I had to listen to him go on and on about what a good Christian he was!! Unbelievable!

During the build, the subcontractors did pretty shotty work, I have visible…read more nails on most of my walls, they also accidentally cut through a wall into a space we were occupying. Now we come to find that there is mildew in our attic which we found only because the water condensed enough to collect in a light fixture and cause it to fail. We reached out to Cresent and they came out to inspect. The follow-up email is that none of it is under warranty- despite it was clearly built incorrectly to begin with , it just took 5 years for the problem to get bad enough to cause damage we could see, a rusted light fixture. As We don't go into our attic space, we were unaware that the original design and or installation were so pour either our shower has been venting into our attic space for 5 years or the original design should have included more ventilation resulting in a space that just collects water. It also seems that none of the people we worked with 5 years ago are still with the company. This was another example of poor customer service. For the amount they charge their sub contractors should be a higher quality and their customer service should include some service. During the project there were many other issues that we had to "catch" and have them fix, too many to recount. After coming to assess our situation, we received a friendly email letting us know that their assessment was complementary but all subsequent actions would be billed hourly. So, I am submitting this complementary review. We will not be inviting them back. They have done enough damage.

After that, the bid skyrocketed about 46% past the high end (69% past the low end) of the feasibility study quote. There were no scope changes, and we provided almost all the selections prior to the feasibility study. In my opinion, they did not take enough accountability for wasting our time and money in design and completely missing the price range of their own feasibility study (which we also paid them for). And this was for a very straightforward basement project that we were able to hire another contractor for who finished it on time and on his expected budget (lower than Crescent's low estimate) with the same selections and without any major issues. We paid a lot for a very messy experience with Crescent. I recommend you look elsewhere for Design and GC work.

I feel a moral obligation to write this review, given the stellar reviews…read more I waited a bit to review, because I wanted to make sure I had as much information as possible before writing it. I hired the team to hang and tape/mud about 1000 sqft of drywall. I had a number of quotes, and Solution DryTex was one of the higher ones, but still within reason. I went with them because of their responsiveness and friendliness. I fired them part way through the work. I had six other drywall companies out to inspect their work - all six said it was unacceptably poor - four of them said to tear it out and start over. As they started hanging, they were doing an alright job, though slightly messier than I would've liked. As they continued, they did a few things that were absolutely unacceptable: - Extensive over-driven screws, which means the drywall will not hold well - Breaks in drywall not directly over a stud/joist, which means the drywall will flex and crack - Extremely poor shimming, meaning the drywall will be crooked - Random pieces of trash sitting behind drywall, meaning the drywall wasn't sitting level - Unnecessary breaks in drywall, which will cause more visual imperfections. - Completely crooked pieces that won't be able to made to look good, no matter the amount of mud I brought up some of these concerns, and they attempted to fix them. The fixes were wholly inadequate. Before I had a chance to circle back with regards to those fixes, they begun taping. After I saw their taping work, I promptly fired them. The taping work contained a number of major problems: - Prefill huge gaps using premixed mud, which will take weeks to dry (if ever) - Mud all over my brand new windows - Bubbled tape that won't be able to be hidden - Globs of mud used to fill an inch wide gap - Corner beads with large curves in them I messaged them repeatedly, telling them they needed to return my money, given the fact that I was going to have to redo all of their work, and they wasted thousands of dollars in material. I received no responses. The team is very nice - they're a pleasure to be around. But no amount of kindness makes up for the fact that they have no idea what they're doing. I don't feel particularly good about leaving this review, but I think it's the right thing to do - I don't want them to take advantage of others like they took advantage of me. EDIT: In response to the owner: Scope of work: Correct, the work was interrupted before it was finished. This was after trying to get poor work corrected. I have also verified with six independent teams that the quality of the work was not such that it could be made to look good and last. Site conditions: Regarding framing, the team came out ahead of the project and spent quite a while measuring. If the framing was not acceptable, then that would've been the time to say so. Client collaboration: Now you're just being strictly dishonest, because moving the cabinets was explicitly included in the agreement. And you used _one_ sheet of drywall, mostly because you used the 1/2 drywall in the wrong places and needed to make up for that fact. Quality of work and adjustments: The work was so far from professional that it could not be adequately adjusted. I have verified this with SIX different companies, to make sure I'm being reasonable in my assessment. Track record: I can't speak to this. All I know is my experience.
