Husband and I booked direct with Rhett House on 3/3 for 4/18. Happened to be during a flash promo. Got a confirmation receipt and a 2nd email with info about our stay. I read the reviews. One said check the fine print, you're not guaranteed the room you select. They might move you to another room, as happened to them. I found that fine print. Seemed strange, but I booked anyway. Figured the odds were low, and if they did switch rooms, it's only one night, and all the rooms looked nice. Jump to 4/18. After a long beach day, arrived at Rhett House at 7:30pm. We knew we had until 8pm to check in. The woman at the desk looked up our reservation and said it had been canceled. Shocked, we told her we did no such thing. She said we booked with the flash promo and canceled a week prior on 4/10 and we had been refunded. We told her we absolutely did not cancel. At this time I was scouring my emails for any kind of cancellation notification and my bank acct to find a refund. I found neither. No email (I checked spam), missed call, voicemail, text, or refund. The woman was kind and expressed concern, but I don't believe she apologized, and she had no explanation for us. She left a message for the owner and gave us a card for the manager, Aimee, in case we didn't hear back. She said we'd be refunded right away. She also called around to other nearby B&Bs to see if there were any openings. It was nearing 8pm, so no one was answering. Only one B&B picked up, and they were full. Unsurprising, as there was a PGA Tour stop in Hilton Head. Not what we were there for but were aware of it. So she suggested Hampton Inn on the outskirts of town, saying it was newly renovated with great water views. We booked there and headed to dinner. There was pie out for guests. She offered us slices. We did not decline, though they had to sit in the car until after dinner. We had a reservation at 8pm just down the road. This situation tainted the whole meal. We were left in shock and disappointment and had no time to change or freshen up first. At dinner, Hampton called to say their elevator was out and only had one room open on the 3rd floor. We didn't want to carry all our bags up, so we canceled and booked with the adjacent Holiday Inn, which was definitely not newly renovated nor sat on the waterfront. After dinner, we tried to make the most of Beaufort. We walked the streets a bit with our pie. We went down to the waterfront park, which I most anticipated. It was said to be lined with bench swings, which sounds romantic. We found the waterfront area was closed due to structural instability. The swings were gone, with just loose chains hanging, and the whole thing was fenced off. With that, we were like, "Let's get out of here." Our stay at Holiday was fine. It was kinda old and worn and smelled musty, but it was fine. Obviously a far cry from the quaint, beautiful room we had booked at Rhett House in historic Beaufort. Next AM we decided to head straight to Savannah instead of spending the morning in Beaufort like originally planned. We were put off by the whole town at this point, and we were already on the outskirts. So we continued onto Sav. In the next few days there, we received no call from Rhett House. I kept checking for a refund, but no luck. We didn't want to spoil any time in Sav over this, so we didn't address it further until home. We left Aimee a voicemail on 4/23 asking for our refund and an explanation. No response, so we left another VM on 4/27. Just a few minutes later, instead of calling back, she texted us. She simply said she processed the refund, we should see it within a day or two, and to have a nice day. No apology, explanation, or call-back. We did receive the refund within the next 2 days. IMO, they should've compensated us for our stay at Holiday for the hassle and the stain on our trip at no fault of our own. But I wasn't going to push it further. We got our refund. This whole experience felt sketchy, and because we never got an explanation, we're left to make our own conclusions. We believe they canceled our reservation because we bought at a discount, and they knew they could get full price from someone else because of the PGA stop. The text from the manager all but confirmed this. It felt like she knew what they did was wrong, didn't have any reasonable explanation, and didn't want to have to answer for what they did. She just dodged us. Completely unacceptable. You shouldn't offer a promo if you don't want to honor it. If there was no promo, I would've paid full price. It seems most reviewers enjoyed their rooms/stays, but I'll never know myself. I won't book here again. This was the most unprofessional experience I've had with a lodging business. Don't give them your money. But if you want to risk booking here in the near future expecting a romantic stay at a picturesque B&B, maybe look elsewhere until their construction is over. You couldn't even enter from the front when we arrived. read more

Everything stood out in my experience. This was 100% the highlight of my stay in Beaufort. Although this place was under construction, once inside I was completely in a trance and happy to be a guest. Robin was extremely friendly and kind. Explaining the area on a map and being so knowledgeable about the area. And Janese, was SO great (I don't think I spelt her name right). Very outgoing and made deserts for us even after they were closing up. I would recommend this place to anyone in a heartbeat. I went to the Inn It was being renovated and was a dangerous wreck with construction debris everywhere. One of the staff said she is a full blooded Cherokee and doesn't like people.It showed .The vanity lights in my bathroom didn't work and the AC was blowing mold and mildew .I was 17 minutes late checking out and the rude desk clerk charged me 50 bucks .I asked her to comp me the 50 bucks late fee for all the problems .She said she would ask the general mgr and they charged me anyway .Do yourself a favor and stay at the Anchorage. read more

We are local and had, once upon a time, a nice experience with the Sunday Brunch. So, we decided to book the Sunday Brunch for Mother's Day. What a mistake. We were seated in a tiny "dining room" and were given a very limited "menu" that no where resembled the menu on the website. Our order consisted of French toast and bacon and pancakes with bacon. Oh, we also had one cup of coffee and a glass of water. The bill was $50!!!!! When we complained about the pricing, the crone inhabiting the desk simply saaid "yes," that's correct. We had a nice stay here over MLK weekend. Food was wonderful, staff were very friendly, and we enjoyed the little treats the inn had each day. We loved riding the bikes around Beaufort. The thing that made it lose a star was that the fireplace didn't work in our room, the bed squeaked, and one night when we tried to use the jacuzzi tub there was no hot water! So be aware of that when you use the water that the hot water may run out. We would still recommend this place and did enjoy our stay. We stayed in carriage room 17. read more

We were only in Beaufort one night, so we only had one night at The Rhett House but we were absolutely obsessed with everything about our stay there and the sweet town of Beaufort! From the second we met the kind staff we felt so welcomed. They were so helpful in giving us all kinds of recommendations for our day and night there and went above and beyond when making sure we had enough robes and towels for three girls staying in a room together. From cookies and tea when we arrived, to our complimentary breakfast before we checked out, everything was absolutely amazing!! All three of us have raved about it all day. The staff's kindness seriously created the sweetest stay for us and we are so grateful!!! We will be returning to the Rhett House if we are ever lucky enough to come back to Beaufort!! read more

Atmosphere: Quaint antebellum home. Location: Excellent location in downtown Beaufort, near the waterfront and the main shops on Bay St. Walking distance to shopping and eating. Service: Good. Helpful front of house personnel, friendly servers and kitchen staff. Food: Breakfast is delicious. You can order whatever you want from the menu, and order more than one item. There are cheese and crackers in the evening. Accommodations: We stayed in King Room 11 in the separate house across the street from the main building. The room is spacious and tastefully decorated. The wood shutters were dusty with a visible layer of dust on the window facing side (not the room facing side). In this room you can hear foot steps above and the voices of the people in the room above. The bed is comfortable, the AC and fan are great. The bathroom has a jacuzzi tub and is outdated (looks as if it hails from 1995) and in need of some repair but is functional. Would be nice if they added at least a handheld bidet feature as an option to bathrooms. There is advertisement of having an EV charger as an amenity at this hotel. During our stay, the Tesla destination charger was broken but the alternate J1772 level two charger was semi-operational. I could plug in but charging would stop/restart sporadically. We only can give it 3 stars but I still recommend a stay (for one night). It is only 3 stars because of the value in comparison to the costs. The positives: most of the staff were friendly, the breakfast was delicious (although a fruit option is needed), the beds are comfortable, it is walking distance to restaurants, shops and waterfront. The negatives: the evening appetizers and deserts were disappointing. We saw several posts from the inn with signature cocktails but none were severed the four days we were there (we were only offered wine one of the days). Coffee is not ready until 7:30 and sometimes it isn't ready until 8:00. The inn is beautiful but like all historic inns it needs constant upkeep. We enjoyed room 7 but be advised all the rooms require many stairs. Some of the stairs are uneven and would be very difficult for anyone with any mobility issues read more

Although a very quaint southern bed & breakfast in a historic setting-- it was the most uncomfortable and unhealthy room experience we have ever encountered. -1.. extremely musty and damp to the point of sheets, clothing, body feeling continually "wet". Yes, it's been humid, but, they have damp rid bags that needed emptied and the AC only blows continually in fan mode... anyone would find this atmosphere uncomfortable and a health risk... we live in SC and this is not acceptable. 2.. the refrigerator didn't close due to huge ice build up and we had to chisel that down to get it to function. -3.. hornet nest on porch outside of our door was brought to their attention and needed taken care of -4.. porch furniture was filthy and we had to wipe it down before being able to enjoy sitting there. -4.. little maintenance jobs and details in room have been neglected and unsightly.. the return air vents in ceiling are filthy, bathroom toilet connections rusted and falling apart. -5.. booked thru Expedia and warned we shoujd not be billed additional.... they put a sticky note on our door requesting additional $29 for fees and would not give us a print out receipt -6.. it was nice walking distance to town and the bed was comfortable except for being very damp read more

Borrow a bike and to ride a trail or be the first to snag the free beach pass to Hunting Islands. Chatting with John, owner and host, I learned, among other things, who were some of the favorite famous guests who stayed there and local celebrities who came by for drinks. I totally enjoyed every moment of my stay at The Rhett House Inn. They have a great little cheese and hummus spread each night, an honor system bar and a great to order breakfast from 8:00 to 10:00am each morning which is included with your room. I stayed in the Barbra Streisand room which was just fabulous. My bed was so so so comfortable, I never wanted to get out of bed! The Inn also has these big beautiful balconies with tables and hammocks. This is just such a nice relaxing place to lay your head in style for a few days. read more

Great area with restaurants and things to do that you can walk to. Bad or could have been better Main things in room was clean but upon closer inspection there were cobwebs in the lights and floor were dusty. Jets in the tub do not work and was told upon arrival to not turn them on. Breakfast was just ok tasting and the more you order the less the give you example we ordered bacon and country ham only received 1 small pc of each. Instead of 2 each which would be a normal order amount. Cheese tray they put out at 5:00 they just leave out in the open no fly cover or way to keep the food cool. When we got there there was gnats on the food and cheese wasn't cold. 7:00 Desserts were ok but were definitely not homemade as advertised and also just left out on the counter for 2 hours not covered or cooled. The best part was the outdoor porches to relax on. I would not stay here again. What you get was not worth the price you pay. read more

We were very underwhelmed by the Rhett House Inn. We stayed two nights and wished we had checked out after our first one, but because we like to give everything another chance, we decided to try a different room on our second night. That was our mistake. Positive: Friendly staff Good walkability to the downtown and restaurants Upper level front porch was nice That's it! Negative: We stayed in the Inn and moved to the cottage - both rooms while on the surface looked clean were not. The air vents in the Inn room were caked with dust and you could visibly see the the layer of dust on the outside of the vents. We both had major headaches that never truly cleared until we were out walking. Breakfast was ok. You basically pick what you'd like off a list and it is made for you. It is included with the price, but then when you get the bill you will notice a service charge of $69.60 and since there were no other services given breakfast probably is not truly included in the price. Furniture and rugs are stained and the building itself just looks in disrepair. Overall, our stay was a bust. We should've left after our first night. When we moved our room, while people were nice, they didn't really show any true concern about it, they just assigned us another room. We understand that it's been family run for over 30 plus years, but perhaps the time has come to close down for a bit and do a deep clean and some repairs/renovations and up their amenities to justify their pricing. read more

They don't have the same service as before, supposedly due to COVID19, no cookies or coffee in the afternoon, no hot breakfast etc etc. I think at least the less they should do is is put some kind of cool snacks in the room to greet the guests. We stayed at the Rhett House Inn on Wednesday, July 15, 2020. Upon check in we were told that the receptionist would leave at 7:00 PM and someone would be back by 7:00 AM. We were given a key to let ourselves in and out of the building. Our toilet seat was broken, and we were unable to turn the water off in our bath, so it ran all night. There was no one there to report it to. We went down at 7:30 AM hoping to find a cup of coffee. No one was there except another guest looking for coffee. No one was present until about 8:00AM when a lady starting cooking breakfast. About 9:25 AM someone appeared at the reception desk. We understand that due to Covid not all of the lovely amenities that the Rhett House is known for were in place, but this visit fell far short of their norm. We will not be returning. read more

What a BEAUTIFUL property! The staff was friendly and welcoming, the onsite chef, Beverly, was incredible! Everything she made was soooooo tasty and her grits are amazing! Our room was located on the porch just around the corner from the main door to the house and was super clean and bottles of water were waiting for us. In the main house, coffee and tea were offered all day, as well as cookies, with cheese & crackers offered later in the afternoon and homemade desserts early evening. Though they only offered breakfast, it was well worth staying for that, then heading out to explore the town which was a 4 minute walk away. There is a Museum just down the street, as well as churches and is situated in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood. We will definitely be back for another stay! read more

For $370 a night, we did not expect the below list of items to occur & better yet, for the Manager to fail to respond 10 days & counting after the complaint: -Dirty pillowcase upon arrival (which the lady did come & change after I called) -Cobwebs all over the lights in the bathroom -Shower leaks onto the floor through the right side -Holes in the comforter on the bed -Air conditioning only got down to 76 degrees our entire stay (we were told it was due to the location of the room & that it couldn't be fixed) -Bed literally squeaked every time you moved an inch -When I asked for the beach chairs to use for the day, I was told they were really old and not in good shape, and that we wouldn't want them Do not stay here if you want luxury service & accomodations, which is what you should get for the price. read more

We stayed at the beautiful Craven House across the street, but dined each morning with Miss Beverly at The Rhett House. Named for the prominent Beaufort family, Rhett House is famous for their fabulous breakfasts. Management will try to squeeze in non guests of the Inn with 24 hours advanced notice. Dining is on the second floor veranda and parlor. A printed menu lists choices. This 9th generation Georgia girl was wowed every morning. The grits are spot on. Bacon crispy delicious. And the french toast? Miss Beverly has the Gift. The lovely servers are personable and know their stuff. Very gracious. Absolutely delightful way to start the day! read more

We stayed at the Rhett House Inn and were very disappointed. Room #4 was recommended. With the window mounted AC running full blast, the room never cooled below 74-75 degrees. As for your "Breakfast" experience expected in a "Bed & Breakfast", it was limited, weak, not good. Blame it on COVID if you like however the cooking staff acted as if they were disgusted to be there. Not very friendly or warm at all! Our stay seemed like a serious inconvenience to them. The staff at the front desk were friendly and helpful. It was nice having the opportunity to be out of town however we would definitely choose another place had we known we were really not welcomed by the kitchen.....where we had to pick up our takeout. The cheese board is basic, the evening desserts ran out & the next night when they had dessert it seemed to be from the grocery store and basic the next morning the breakfast was VERY basic and the waiter shared that the biscuits came in frozen... they didn't have any milk for the coffee (never ready at 7:30 the published time). It would go a long way if they tried to garnish or just add fruit or herbs to the food offerings. Meanwhile the bedroom was very nice- but small, the male cleaning person we saw was very nice, we did wonder if we had somehow insulted the front end staff since they were curt and I thought dismissive of guest - the breakfast server is clearly understaffed at 8am when they open and guest came in. After waiting for 15 minutes in the dining room without even a water being offered- we left without breakfast (B&B?)...and went to Starbucks- this coffee shop had milk for the coffee too! I was just surprised by Frozen biscuits, and that so many items on the menu that they could not offer due to no milk. I was in town for business and will continue to use the Inn as their corporate rates are very competitive. It happened to be my 7th wedding anniversary weekend, and my wife decided to surprise me by driving down to stay the evening. The staff was most accommodating in allowing me to have a 7:15AM breakfast (45-minutes prior to when it was normally offered) so I could get in a hearty breakfast before work. The ladies in the kitchen were super nice in providing a great start to my day. Josh was the evening host and the late afternoon appetizers and wine were a nice touch. We even went on a 40-minute bike ride around town (on the complementary cruisers the inn has for guests). This is 5-STAR treatment. Sis and I stayed at this quaint and comfy inn during our first visit to Beaufort. We were attending a Marine Corp graduation on Parris Island and opted to stay at the Rhett House after reading several great reviews on Tripadvisor and Yelp. We were beyond pleased with our decision. Room #2 was small but cozy. Our bed was comfy and although the semi-private balcony went unused, it was quite inviting. Breakfast was awesome! At home, I never wake up early enough for breakfast but during this trip, I made it a point to wake up in time to enjoy each morning's tasty offerings. And they were tasty... The staff is fantastic! The morning of the graduation, the kitchen staff arrived early, just to get breakfast ready for us since we had to leave before the usual dining hours. The manager also gave us dining and shopping suggestions that were only a few blocks away from our locale. And let me tell ya, the variety of eats in Beaufort will satisfy even the most discerning palate. So, lets add it all up: Centrally located+friendly/efficient staff+attentive and knowledgable management+tasty breakfast/evening desserts+comfy room= 5 stars and a return trip this December! My husband I I basically swore off B & B's in general because of some bad experiences but there was nothing to fear here. We like our privacy so having a separate entrance to our room in the carriage house that was just a 1/2 block away from the inn was ideal. It was also nice to have our own porch where we could watch the spanish moss on the live oaks sway with the breeze. It was a peaceful street though on occasion you could hear the church bells ring (Love that) and hear the clippity clop of the horse drawn carriages. I liked the sound, but always feel bad for these animals. I would prefer to hear them galloping in an open field. Right across the narrow street, there was a large, beautiful cemetery and church. The hourly bells tolled from here. We strolled the grounds the next morning and we were glad we did. It was so peaceful, beautiful and it was interesting to read about the historical figures who were laid to rest there. The room was spacious and the four poster bed enormous. You almost needed a step stool to climb on it, but it was charming and it fit the style of the decor for the room. A gas fireplace was a nice touch making it feel warm and cozy on a chilly night. The bathroom was well sized and had a shower and separate tub. Now remember, these are historic properties which is part of the experience. You won't find state of the art double rain shower stalls or other trendy modern conveniences. The food and service here were definitely Southern style: proper, but friendly, gracious and helpful. For breakfast, there were always several choices i.e. eggs, french toast, pancakes, with the usual add ons like grits, biscuits, country ham, sausage, etc. etc. I went with the scrambled eggs with chives and cheese and decided to construct my own breakfast sandwich. The eggs, ham and biscuit made a tasty bite, and the grits were spot on. As others mentioned the self serve desserts in the evening were quite incredible, not just from the variety but also the quality of the goodies. Made with Southern love, that was evident. We originally booked our stay at the beginning of June. I had checked the website to make sure of any COVID restrictions. We just stayed there in July, and were very disappointed to find that they had updated policy to remove all amenities.The only thing we got for breakfast was a breakfast sandwich to go or eggs and bacon on a plate. That is ridiculous considering we paid $476 for two nights. I understand guidelines, but there were other ways to provide safety and allow a hospitable experience. You could serve individual cookies in paper bags or do personalized goodie bags. The lack of any alternative seems to me lazy and using the excuse of Coronavirus. On top of that, we received poor service from the entire staff. We were made to feel like we were inconveniencing the staff. Especially the kitchen crew. As a South Carolina native that has stayed at numerous b&bs, it is terrible. After so many recommendations on this place, we will never be back. Simply put, the best Bed and Breakfast I've ever stayed at. Every (and I do mean EVERY) detail of your stay is taken care of. The room was spacious, charming, and featured a jacuzzi tub AND a 30-foot PRIVATE porch running the length of the room. The room was bright and airy when the blinds were open, and cool and private when they were closed. The staff takes care of every detail. The included breakfast each morning is comfort food at its best, and the amenities they offer (bikes, beach chairs and towels, etc) make this place truly feel like you are staying with a friend. The rates are a bit pricy, but well worth it. There are snacks, drinks, and desserts offered in the living room or kitchen of the inn virtually non-stop until 9 PM each day. The waitstaff is friendly, and the place is as charming and beautiful as any home you will see in the south. read more

What a lovely gem here in beautiful Beaufort! We came to celebrate our anniversary & fell in love with this charming Inn. The service was excellent, food was delicious and our room was amazing. I stayed here this past weekend for the long Labor Day weekend, and it was delightful! The Rhett House Inn is a perfect place to read the paper, stay fed, work a crossword puzzle, sip on sweet tea vodka (really), and generally do nothing. From the included Southern Breakfast each morning, to lemonade and tea all afternoon, to the desserts each evening (ah, the heavenly walnut pie), my experience here made me want to pack up shop and move back to the South. The huge wrap-around veranda is quintessential southern coastal town, and the free bikes provided by the inn are the perfect way to roam lazily through the quiet streets. I don't remember the last time I felt like a kid in summertime; it was the perfect ending to summer. The beach is a relatively short and picture-perfect drive away, replete with grassy sea marshes, tethered shrimp boats, and soaring birds. I loved this place, and I can't wait to go back. read more
