FANTASTIC SERVICE AND EXPERIENCE I wish I lived in San Angelo. I'd take all my cars to Ric Henry! Here's our story... My wife and I were on a road trip from San Antonio, TX to Denver CO. Our 2019 Jeep Wangler started overheating about 30 outside of San Angelo. We began calling around town to see who could help diagnose and repair the issue. We called 4+ shops, explaining we were from out of town, stuck on the side of the road, and needed our Jeep repaired. No one was willing to squeeze us in, and had very little empathy for our situation. When we called Ric Henry's, they understood our situation and agreed to take a look despite being swamped with other customers. Upon arrival, Shane was pleasant and friendly. Shane took our car in to take a look. While we waited, another employee, Dana, gave us a ride to get lunch and a quick tour of San Angelo. It turned out that the Jeep needed a part ordered that could not arrive for 2 days; it was a weekend. We rented a car and continued to Denver with complete confidence that the Jeep would be fixed. Sure enough, the next business day, it was ready, and we picked it up on our way back to San Antonio, again confident that our Jeep was in good hands. I had a very disappointing experience with Ric Henry Auto. When I brought my vehicle in, I clearly explained all the diagnostics I had already performed myself -- including the code my personal reader pulled and the compression test results. I came in specifically seeking further diagnosis to understand what was actually causing the code. Instead, they simply hooked up their own code reader, told me the exact same code I had already reported to them, and then recommended a full engine replacement for around $15,000. I was charged $250 for information I had already provided when I walked in. When I asked about deeper diagnostic work -- the kind I believed the diagnostic fee was supposed to cover -- I was told that would cost even more. I was under the impression that a diagnostic charge meant they would actually diagnose the problem, not just read a code and upsell a major repair. I got a second opinion from a reputable local businessman who actually took the time to diagnose the real issue. He is repairing the problem for about $5,000 -- far from the $15,000 engine replacement Ric Henry Auto claimed was necessary. Prior to purchasing my wife's Mini Clubman I was concerned about quality service here in San Angelo. Just by chance while fueling my truck a young lady pulled up in her Mini Cooper. I asked her if she lived in town she said yes, I then asked where she had her Mini serviced. She said the only place she trusted was Ric Henry. She went to explain how Ric has been keeping her Mini trouble free for years. That's what I wanted to hear because I wasn't going to drive DFW for an oil change. Now that we have purchased our Mini Ric is servicing items that are OEM or are at designated service intervals. The car needed a relay replaced. Ric Henry's had the car from 9 am until 5:30, and their estimate was $3000. They wanted to replace the entire a/c system. Relay = $20 My guess, is their "mechanics" are on commission or they don't even troubleshoot but instead have their office quote complete replacements. I hate to think that an auto repair business could get away with such blatantly ripping people off without the law getting involved. Stay away from this place and normally Yelp is great about filtering out fake reviews, but I don't believe the positive reviews here for Ric Henry's. read more

Didnt admit he didn't tell is he really didn't have resources to fix our BMW. Very disappointed.

My daughter and I were on a short road trip in a convertible BMW and had a break down after I over used the sport mode... We had a hotel in NM that night and the part was gonna take a day to get. Not only did Ric find the problem and fix it they got it done by 2 the next day! They gave us a rental so we could get a new room, dinner and some drinks after the day I'd had and it all worked out. On top of everything Shane went above and beyond to get my warranty to cover the cost so I only paid my deductible. What was a total nightmare was made 1000 x's better thanks to Ric and Shane. I want to say before I get into this that Ric and his team were very friendly to me and this is only a statement of what happened from a technical vantage point. I took my sons 2006 BMW 325i in for service and over a period of several months they attempted to correct a problem that a BMW consultant in Austin said was probably created by them in the first place. The following is an account of all the issues that were wrong with the car in the consultants own words: Mechanical Malpractice Discoveries on the BMW: -Mass Air Flow Sensor not plugged in. This was making the engine stall. -Oil pan gasket was not properly installed. Over use of gasket glue. The old gasket glue melted into the oil pan after a while. -Oil pan shows marks of extreme stress. Likely due to improper removal and heavy compression. -Oil pan gasket bolts were still from the factory - the bolts should have been replaced with the oil pan gasket replacement -Steering fluid lines were not properly attached - lines holders were broken on service -Engine left mount bolt on sub-frame were not properly tightened - rust was created on the mount -Fuel line splash cover was missing one bolt -likely got removed in order to make space to remove the PCV plug from the oil pan on last service. -Seems that cheap oil was used. Not sure how many miles from last oil change. Oil began to separate and change consistency looking milky. No water mix. Just cheap oil used on a heavy power engine. -Cabin air filter holder and housing damaged when removed. All plugs where snapped out of the frame. This car was serviced by Park Place BMW before coming to San Angelo, so I don't believe a shop like that would have left me with the mess stated above. As I stated this team is very friendly and appears to be knowledgeable about their jobs, but consumer beware. read more

I heard about Ric Henry's from a buddy who got his car lights fixed here. My boyfriend brought his car to get repaired as well. They have forms so you can drop off the car before they open or after they close. I emailed them to ask about their pre-purchase vehicle inspection because I'm not from the area, and they responded the next morning telling me it was no charge and to just let them know when I wanted to bring it in. Shane Beardon always replied to any questions I had promptly. I found a car for them to inspect and they texted the inspection report to me within hours. They have a nifty green, yellow, red scale they rate each part they check, photos of the parts with issues, and any comments or recommendations they have. They ended up saving me from buying a car that looked pristine on the inside and out but had major mechanical issues that would be very expensive to repair. I am new in town. Heard Ric Henry's was the place to go. I needed my car serviced and I needed it inspected too. They don't do inspections but they took it down the street, had it inspected and it was ready for me when I got back. They only charged for the inspection, nothing extra. They are more expensive, but when you factor in the free oil change after every four oil changes... they are competitive to what I paid previously and fair in the process... I had just arrived in town last October and I had some trouble with my BMW 540i. I was referred to Ric by another mechanic in town who said that Ric was trustworthy, a good mechanic, but expensive. I thought this sounded promising. My car had a bad driveshaft that Ric initially diagnosed as a bad Guibo joint. He replaced the joint and a few days later the problems started again. Ric determined that we needed to go ahead and replace the drive shaft. He stood behind his diagnosis, and as such he charged me no additional labor to install the drive shaft and deducted the cost of the original Guibo joint from the remanufactured driveshaft. In other words, Ric made sure his mistake did not cost me a dime extra. There is a reason I will pay Ric Henry more. He's an honorable guy, and he deserves to be paid well for his labor, and I am confident he will take good care of me. read more

Tried to charge me $800 for somthing another place offered to do for $400. There are some crooks in the mechanic business that will take advantage of people who dont know much about cars. If you dont know alot about cars, I would definitely stay clear of this place at take it somewhere they will be honest and give a fair price. i was passing through and broke down on i-10 and ended up at this shop due to yelp reviews. i was amazed at the hospitality and repairs that were made. my brakes were also inspected at my request and broken springs were found, this too was repaired. i was also invited to lunch with the two service writers and the boss, i felt privileged. p.s. the chicken fried steak was amazing. when i went to pay my service ticket i was very impressed with the awesome state of the art software that was used and even with photos to show future maintenance items that should be corrected but not mandatory to get back to california. i also think the amount of time that was spent on my vehicle it should have been double the original estimate. i really want to move to san angelo texas just to be able to have my vehicles serviced here. i have made it safely back to los angeles. great job team!!!! read more

I am from out of town. I hit a deer and my car started overheating. I had it tower to Ric Henry's and explained that (if possible) I needed to get back on the road asap. I was expecting them to do the typical mechanic thing of giving me a list of 10 problems and trying to charge me thousands of dollars. It was a simple hose issue. The charged me next to nothing and had me safely back on the road within a short amount of time. Days later my car runs fine. I highly recommend Ric Henrys. read more
