First let me say I do not care for tomato pie, but we tried the Browns Mills tomato pie and it was delicious! Thin crust and a sweet sauce, which I really liked. Back at Riccardo's and tonight we started with the Sweet and Sourdough Garlic Bread appetizer. Three and a half to four day naturally fermented sourdough bread serves as the base for a very generous helping of garlic along with other toppings, most notably the sweet and spicy hot honey. In my opinion, it's just sweet enough to earn the name but not too sweet or garlicky and not too spicy. It does leave my lips and tongue with a nice tingle, all ready for any of the traditional Italian specialties from Riccardo's kitchen. I've commented to chef and owner Vito Russo that I'm always amazed he manages to bake this special starter to be crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside with a great chew. While on my way to go dinner elsewhere, google maps took me down an unexpected road and I came across Riccardo's Pizza & Italian Restaurant and their bright sign saying they are the Home of the Browns Mill Tomato Pie. Intrigued but this I made a quick U-turn and stopped in for a slice. The Browns Mill Tomato Pie is divine. A perfectly thin and crispy crust with a great under carriage adorned by one of the best tomato sauces I have ever encountered on a pizza. And topped with the perfect amount of mozzarella cheese. One of the signs of a great pizza of course starts with the dough which makes for a pizza that doesn't feel like lead once you've eaten it. The dough is made fresh everyday and is proofed for 2-3 days (depending on the pizza) by their founder Sal hailing from Carini Sicily, who founded this restaurant back in 1974. Everyone who works there is super friendly, knowledgeable, and they make you truly feel at home. Being a nice night we decided to dine al fresco at their outdoor fire pit. While this was my first time coming here it certainly won't be my last. Do yourself a favor and go try this hidden gem for yourself. read more

Ordered the Browns Mills tomato pie. First off, it wasn't hot when it arrived, which was strange because the place wasn't that busy. The crust was fine, not great, but the sauce was just terrible. Other reviews note that the sauce is on the sweet side, which is how I like it, but I've never had a sauce this sickeningly sweet. The owner came out and I talked to him about it, and he said it's from using San Marzano tomatoes. Which is ridiculous; I've used them for years, including in my own pizza sauce, and never had anything taste even close to that bad, no matter what brand I used. The pepperoni was sparse, tissue-paper thin, and tasteless. This place gets 4.9 stars on Google on over 4000 reviews. Something strange going on here, there's no way that's legit. read more

Finally made it to Riccardo's Italian Restaurant in Browns Mills today. I went with the Skinnie Minnie Thinnie pizza (Mike's Hot Honey & Roni cups). My first impression was that the pie was too sweet, but I enjoyed the taste after that initial bite. It had a bit of a smokey flavor, felt the char was perfect. Pizza was dense & filling, was only able to down three slices (and I'm a large guy with an appetite to match). Overall, a great pizza, I would just leave off the Mike's Hot Honey when I order the Skinnie Minnie Thinnie again. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their meals, as well as the soups and the garlic knots, all excellent. For dessert, we brought home a Cannoli bread pudding -- we loved it, a unique pleasure ! Service was stellar, our waitress was very friendly & attentive. Looking forward to a return visit to Riccardo's when I'm back in the area. A Strong 4 Star rating, IMO. read more

A cool pizzeria nestled right in the corner. This place is cozy and have limited seating but they were happy to seat our party of five. Devin was our waiter and she was perfect. We prefer the seafood platter, shrimp and scallop Alfredo, a basket of calamari, and the New Orleans shrimp and sausage rigatoni. The fried seafood platter came out on a massive plate and sat on a bed of fries. The seafood is breaded (I'm positive it's pre-breaded) but it was piping hot and seasoned! The fries were amazing! Crispy and salted. I tried the Alfredo and it's everything you'd expect and it has a massive amount of Alfredo sauce. The New Orleans pasta was a chef's kiss. Nothing needed additional seasoning. Th person who ordered it could not stop raving about how delicious it was. If you're in the area, give this place a try! Not picture is the chicken noodle soup. You can tell it's homemade. I've been seeing amazing looking pies from Riccardo's being posted in the Facebook group Jersey Pizza Joints (JPJ) now for a while. I've been meaning to stop in to try them out but just haven't had the time to make the drive. A week or so ago someone posted a picture of the new(ish) Skinnie Minnie Thinnie in JPJ and I had to have it. It looked like perfection. We placed our order on Sunday at 1:30pm an hour and a half before the NFC Championship game started for a 2:15pm pick up. Was definitely busy when we arrived but our pies were ready as promised. We got them home and they both looked beautiful (and were still hot!). $52+ for a Browns Mills Tomato Pie and a Skinnie Minnie Thinnie with roni cups but it was very worth the price! Thin crisp dough, great undercarriage, well done pies. Loved the sauce and the pies had a great chew. Had it not been for JPJ I probably never would've found Riccardo's but it lived up to the hype (Riccardo's is very popular in the JPJ Facebook group and is routinely posted & raved about). On my list of tomato pies, Riccardo's is a close 2nd (still a great pie!). Riccardo's hours are much more convenient than my go-to pizzeria though. The Skinnie Minnie Thinnie is on another level and the crisp roni cups are a must have. Will most definitely be back again. read more
