Rice & Fries doesn't just offer SWestern IL's best Chinese cuisine. Sure, the Hunan chicken and broccoli with garlic sauce are great. I will say if someone enjoys a Chinese buffet with fresh and very flavorful food I do recommend this place highly. The staff was very friendly and I showed up kind of late in the evening which most places do not restock or freshen up their items but not the case here and the price was more than reasonable I was actually surprised at the quality for the price. This was my first time trying this restaurant and it will not be my last. I will say that it wasn't too small or too large assortment of food. The only negative I could say about this restaurant would be the area where they clean off and store items from tables was an area where you had to walk past but I will say it was a very clean environment. I would like to say thank you to the restaurant owners or/and managers that work so hard and keeping this place so nice hopefully it will be that way on my future visits. read more

I was in Sparta getting ready for my daughters wedding and I remembered how tasty Rice and Fries was. They offer a buffet but they will give you a to go box. Oh heck yeah. This place is wonderful, yes it is a buffet but they keep the right amounts were the food is never dried out and looks nasty. Everything is tasty and surprisingly not greasy. Whenever I make my way to Marissa I always make a trip to Sparta not just because they have a Wal-Mart & other small town necessities but because of this little Chinese buffet. This Chinese buffet feels like it has been around as long as the town of Sparta itself. Over the years as this town has grown this little Chinese buffet has always remained. The place is nothing fancy but you should never walk into a Chinese buffet & expect such. Also occasionally you will see your occasional country mutant or goblin walk into here & make the people watching experience even better. The place is obviously called Rice & Fries because on top of the Chinese food they serve they serve some american dishes as well. I am not sure if that is still the case but for years they served American & Chinese food. The building is pretty nice & they keep it pretty clean. Obviously with a buffet the time of day that you arrive matters for how hot & fresh the food is. Whenever I come here I usually try to stop by around lunch time because everything is hot & fresh. The price is not bad either. There isn't really too many other quality options in the area for Chinese food & this restaurant has been around for so long that it is definitely worth the trip. Overall there is nothing very special about the place it has just been around for so long & the food is pretty good that it is always enjoyable to come here when you are in town. Good chinese buffet. I will start with best and work my way down to lesser quality items. My favorite things are the Chcken wings, Best in the area, with what ever coating they use, and is nice and flavorful throughout. Other meats and veggies, are good, probably around average, they keep them replaced as needed, although can be a little behind when busy. The buffet rice is rather bland and very little flavor, they could do better on it. It is a rather new building, so it is clean and neat, but they don't run their Air Cond. much making it warm and muggy while you eat, those are the only issues. read more

Had high hopes for this place but they were quickly dashed. Upon entering we saw that it was a nice clean restaurant and had many people there. The waiter was not very friendly and never returned throughout the meal to refill our drinks. The food looked amazing when we were dishing up our plates. We had worked all day and skipped lunch and were ready to chow down. However, that 1st, 2nd and even 3rd bite was not what we expected.
