Used to be the place to go, but food quality has slipped tremendously . Good service despite poor food quality

First trip to the Rice Bowl. Found a pleasant atmosphere and a very friendly staff. The buffet was smaller than most but I was pleased to find a really good variety of really good food. I have always been a fan of this place until a month ago when my family were visiting. I had a 9 and 11 yo nieces with me. When we entered the place, the lady I'm sure she was like the second owner or something, asked me how many people, which I replied 5 adults two kids. And she looked at my nieces and said, no those are adults. I was like how are they adults? She said they are too tall. She even had them stood under the "kids" requirement height they have on their wall. I was furious, not because of the adult price I'd pay for my two nieces, but it's the fact that she categorized them as adults due to their height. One was 5'9 and the other 5'8. They were both taller than the waitresses they had. Not only did she assume they were adults, but she was very rude about it. Her and all of their staff. The waitresses even came out and said children price is 11 and under, which I said they are children. We can provide birth certificates if we have to. But then she also mentioned they are past "this height line". which I replied, how are y'all gonna have a height requirement that low when you know not every kids are short ‍‍‍. Y'all can see they're babies, they're just tall like all of our families. Bottom line up front, watch out for the requirement height their for kids. The way they handle this situation was unprofessional and rude. But like I said I've always loved this place until then. Bad customer service and definitely need to revisit their height requirements for kids or take it off completely. read more

Before I begin, I would like to state for the record that I AM NOT A PICKY EATER. With the exception of licorice and sweet potatoes, I pretty much eat everything! Chinese food is my favorite. I enjoy eating the buffets when I go out of town. Today was my "cheat" day and I was looking forward to stuffing my face We were lured into this particular restaurant bc the Google reviews were pretty good and it was the closest Chinese place to us (we are not from the Albany area). So the buffet is very limited. But I'm not being dramatic about that. The one in Adel has a tiny one also but the food is really good so it makes up for it. This restaurant however did not even have the basics! No pork fried rice. It was shrimp fried rice. No chicken and broccoli was to be found there wasn't even a label for it. But they had a few other random items I was not familiar with and I thought it was crazy they had that but no chicken and broccoli. The chicken and broccoli is pretty much all my 5 yo will eat so needless to say, she didn't eat much. Let's talk about these 5 star reviews! The only way this location is 5 stars (or even a solid 3) is if one or more of the following conditions were met: 1) they were really stoned when they ate here 2) this is the only "Chinese" food they've ever had 3) the cook was actually stoned and messed up all of our food and was off his game today. This place was so bad! The shrimp fried rice was very garlicky. It tasted NOTHING like Chinese fried rice. The beef and broccoli was off and really bad over the rice. The lo mein noodles were very bland. And holy egg roll! What kind of place ruins egg rolls that way. They had hardly any flavor and had this terrible cinnamon aftertaste. I thought I was going crazy so I grabbed a fresh one and it was the same also. My teenage daughter (also a lover of the Chinese food) spit it out. If you had of been blindfolded, you would not have guessed these flavors were Chinese. It was seriously just terrible American food. I typically finish a whole plate at the Royal Buffet in Valdosta. I took one bit of each item and pushed my plate away. I wound up with a plate of chicken wings I would never eat chicken wings at a Chinese place but it was the only thing edible other than the cheese ragoons. I did not want to waste the $45.xx that we just spent to eat there. My husband did not like it either. We left very disappointed! On a positive note, our waiter Cameron was very nice! He was super attentive and very friendly, which is why I'm leaving 2 stars. The food was terrible but the service was great! read more

The food is almost always top notch but sometimes can be bland. Eating in is good but it's very pricey to take out.

I lot must have changed in two years. We paid after we ate, and the egg rolls where the worst I think I have ever had. The food is still replenished often, and does come out really fresh. There where a couple good dishes on the menu, but most left little to be desired. Probably still better than most take out places though... read more

The man was being so rude towards me while ordering my food. I opened my food when I got home since their not doing the buffet and it was straight disgusting....Tasted like dish detergent and my chicken was burnt . DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!! read more

By far the worst Chinese place ive eaten at. The selection is small, and everything tastes the same which is bland and almost tasteless. The breaded chicken (sesame chicken..etc.) is almost all breading and a very miniscule amount of chicken. If you want a real chinese buffet, go to House of Yuan down the road a couple of miles. read more

If i could rate this restaurant less than 1 star i would. Tonight i attempted this restaurant as im new to albany ga; well lets start with everything was sweet tasting and cold things that should be spicey tasted sweet by 4 people; scallops were not cooked all the way; selection was limited and the staff was rude; you pay before you eat; go figure; so when we were not satisfied with our food they refused to give any sort of refund; and then called the police over attempting to get a refund claimed we ate when we only tried the food!!!! Bland Chinese food. They take sweet and sour chicken and just dip them in different sauces. The fried rice is the only thing good!

This is my NUMBER ONE favorite restaurant in all of Leesburg and Albany! I go here every year for my birthday (and plenty times in between.) It is buffet style, but very small. I don't mind the small selection because they make up for it in taste. Some people say it's the worst Chinese place they've had, but I've recently moved and I'm still trying to find a place to even compare to Rice Bowl. read more

The items on the buffet are good, always hot, and plentiful. The price is very reasonable for a buffet and the service is very prompt. The items on the buffet stay the same, so if you have been going there for a period of time, you know exactly what to expect when you get there. Just get there a little before lunch, or you will have a line to wait in, but the line moves reasonable quick. read more

This is the best Chinese Buffet in the Albany/Lee County area. They've had a good bit of competition in the area within the last year or so, but I still prefer them over any other establishment. I get to go plates there regularly. The Sweet & Sour Chicken & the egg rolls are the best from there, and is a great deal for the money. read more

The Rice Bowl doesn't look like much located in the strip mall. You have to pay first before you sit and enjoy the buffet. It is the smallest Chinese buffet that I've ever seen. No wet salad bar, no dry dessert or ice cream, just perfect and what you need. The food is made in small batches and constantly replenished. Awesome egg rolls. I look forward to going back. read more
