I was up here to do errands than I got hungry for lunch. I wanted Asian food 2 place I drove by it doesn't seam to be open so I stumble on to this place. They have good menu for a Chinese food. I was kinda craving Pad Thai but it's not Chinese but they have it. So that's what I order. First of all the picture here doesn't look like it should be.iIt must of been at one time. I'm sure this place used to be really good before Covid but I was disappointed when I tried it. They have one menu up front and you have to go ahead and order before you can sit at a table. My husband and I was looking at the menu when a family showed up. I then felt rushed to order something even though I this was my first time there. I order shrimp fried rice and this is what I got, I found one more shrimp after I took the picture. My husband's food was great. The lights were not on in the building only leaving about 6-7 tables with good window lighting. Just might be me but I thought it was odd. Best Asian restaurant in the area by far. Food is always fresh and ready to go when I order in first. Rice is a little undercooked for my liking. Always finding hard grains of rice. But everything else is delicious. I always get the general Tso's, dumplings, shrimp egg rolls, and beef lo mein with shrimp fried rice. Was craving some Chinese food Thursday and decided to call an order in. Food was ready super fast and the cashier was super friendly. The problem was the food. The sweet and sour chicken was well over cooked. Super hard and crunchy with no chicken flavor at all. My family placed a delivery order via Door Dash, and this is our fourth delivery order placed from Hong Kong Cafe. We ordered Sesame Tofu, Kung Pao Chicken (medium spice), Orange Peel Chicken (medium spice), Chicken Sticks (6 per order), Fries, and Pork Lo Mein. Everything was great and the food arrived right on time. This was our fourth excellent experience with Hong Kong Cafe, and the whole family has always ended up full and satisfied. FYI, the medium spice is perfect for those that want a nice consistent burn in their mouth that does not last too long. Also, on previous occasions we have ordered Hong Kong Cafe's Chinese Doughnuts, and they are outstanding. In my 26 +\- years ordering delivery Chinese restaurant's doughnuts, I have almost always found that those Chinese Doughnuts have a slightly stale/rancid taste, but Hong Kong Cafe's have always tasted fresh and delicious. This used to be my go to place for Chinese. I went this week and got the general Tso's chicken combo. My lord it was just nasty. I'm going to say it tasted like it had been pre cooked then reheated at least twice. The taste has changed some but I imagine that comes with a non-chain restaurant that's been in business for as long as they have. We'd been hiking @ Providence Canyon all morning and also spent a few hours at the Riverquarium that afternoon without eating. It was now about 4 o'clock and our last meal was about 7:30 a.m. before leaving our hotel for the day. Not a good idea!!! We enjoyed them so much that we ordered a second round of each. * CRAB RANGOON - Crispy with nice flavor. Perfect stuffing to dough ratio. * SESAME CHICKEN - Our kids cleaned their plates if that says anything. * SHRIMP FRIED RICE - What I appreciated most was that nothing was dry about this dish. The rice was perfectly cooked and the shrimp, egg & veggies weren't overdone. * VEGGIE STIR FRY - My hard to please wife inhaled this like a Dyson vacuum. Thanks to the other yelp reviews I gave this one a try. Little worried about the lack of patron but yelp has good ratings so powered on in. Glad I did! Started with a spring roll and hot and sour soup. The soup was excellent, just as it should be. The spring roll was crispy and light, again just as expected. 2 for 2 so far. The Main meal was garlic beef, not spicy at all but very good. Had plenty to eat and should have kept half for lunch tomorrow but I am traveling so I of course ate it all . Eating here again for the several dozenth time. I usually get the same thing, beef w vegetables, it's what I judge all Chinese restaurants by (if you can't get that right, something is wrong). Today, however, I wanted to try another dish. Nothing I would change and everyone left with doggie bags ...which for lunch portions is impressive. Hong Kong Cafe is the best restaurant I have been to in Albany Georgia. Some times it is hard to find a good restaurant in a small town, so I felt lucky when I found Hong Kong cafe couple months ago. I have had their curry a couple of times and it is surprisingly decent. They do serve some pickled vegetables before the meal and generally give you some kind of soup. They will also serve you some little crunchy bits that you can eat with some red sauce they have. It's not really a duck sauce I think, but something like it. It's a hole in the wall kind of place in the middle of parking lot near an Alltel. It's not in a particularly great location. The atmosphere inside is kind of dark most of the time. I would say if you generally like Chinese food then you should probably give it a shot. I know it has received several awards in the past for being a great place to eat. I've just never really been a fan. I wouldn't let that hold you back from trying it, though. read more
