This place holds a lot of memories for me. When I bought my first home in 2009, my mother and I used to eat at this place all the time. It was the only truly decent place to get food in Tonganoxie. One thing I loved was that their food was always made fresh. I never purchased food from them that have been sitting. First of all the location is in a pretty decent spot I wish it were more visible from the street. It's situated on an incline and it's right near a highway so if you're going over the highway, you won't be able to see it very well. That's the only bad thing about it. The decor inside is very culturally present. The staff are extremely friendly and it got to a point that they knew who my mother and I were considering at that time we were one a few African-Americans who lived in the area. I hadn't been there since my mom passed away in 2019. I was on work related business and I looked over and seen it and decided I would stop there before heading home. It was like coming home again. They didn't quite remember me at first because it has been seven years since I've lived in Tonganoxie, however they were just as friendly and sweet as ever before and oh my God the food was hoodoggie good!!!! I ordered the shrimp chow Mei fun and it was absolutely superb. Cooked fresh and flavorful and filling. This place is one of the biggest regrets of me moving away from Tonganoxie. I wish there was a Chinese restaurant in Lawrence that tasted this good. If you're ever passing through the Tonganoxie area give rice house a try you won't be disappointed. read more

It's by no means the best Chinese food as someone who's lived in NYC and the San Francisco area. But it is decent small town Chinese food. The lomein is done well and has good flavor which can be hard to find! Their chicken dishes are pretty good but beef always seems to fall flat. The service is wonderful! Always such nice people and food is ready pretty quickly. Only ever done take out but hits the spot when hankering for some Chinese but you don't want to cook or travel too far. read more

The food is excellent and the owners are very nice people. If you want authentic Chinese cuisine go to the Rice House in Tonganoxie. They have a dish not on the menu called "Jalapeño Chicken", I order it x-tra spicy and it is a full on wonderful meal. read more

We were in town and wanted some lunch on a Saturday around 1 pm. We decided to try Rice House on a whim and were happy to see they had a little lunch buffet. Now, I will stress that it's a small buffet, but really give it a chance because they had the common favorites and the food was really good. The dumplings were really great and seemed homemade. It seems that a good Chinese restaurant is hard to come across in Kansas, but let me tell you this is where it's at. Rice house has not only great tasting food, but a large selection to choose from as well. Not to mention the service is good and the restaurant is always super clean! Some of my favorites are the Sesame Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, Orange Chicken, and the Chicken fried rice. You seriously can't go wrong with anything you order here! Plus the combo meals include so much food that you'll have plenty to savor for the next day. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat to anyone who is looking for a delicious restaurant to go out and try! read more

My family and I go to Rice House pretty regularly. Their food is consistently delicious and the portion sizes are pretty good. I always have enough leftovers to take for lunch the next day. I keep trying this place and it yet does anything for my taste buds. Today ordered the cashew chicken and what I opened up the carton to almost made me vomit. Took it back and was told we said the wrong thing on the phone. When my husband tried to explain the situation (this is how we always order it) to the guy he stated " your mistake your problem that's how it goes". He was obnoxious and absolutely rude. It won't happen again. I'm done trying this place that lacks interest to my taste buds and customer service. All I can say to this guy is "your mistake no customer; that's the way it goes when there's no customer service ". Big mistake especially when we frequent this place most Sunday afternoons. There is always Mexican right next door. Plus the fried rice is white rice with steamed vegetables. read more

Just moved to town a few weeks ago and have been trying out everything available in town. Have not tried the buffet but we had takeout and everything was great. Didn't really care for the fried dumplings.. the dough was kind of weird and crunchy, not like typical dumplings. Would have given 5 stars but I was not given what I ordered. I think my General Tso's went to someone else and I ended up with Kung Pao Chicken and Beef. I was tired and hungry so I ate it anyway.. it was good. read more

Very good food! I got the cashew chicken and it had zucchini, mushrooms and water chestnuts, (along with the normal celery, carrots, etc.) which made it that much crunchier and fresher! Food was hot and fresh and ready in just a few minutes. My daughter LOVED the egg drop soup. Staff was friendly. We will be coming back! read more
