My son and I went to eat a late night dinner after his band concert. I thought the restaurant closed at 10 pm, but when we arrived I discovered it closed at 9 pm and it was already 8:35 pm. We entered and were greeted by an older Asian lady who immediately informed us that they closed at 9 pm. After she seated us, I went to the restroom and while I was in the restroom, the lady informed my son he needed to hurry and make his selection because they would be closing at 9 pm. I returned to the table and my son told me what the lady had said. A few minutes later, a waiter/cook came out to take our order and I could hear him cursing, "Fuck this..." We ordered our food and we're again informed the restaurant would be closing at 9 pm. When our food arrived, my son felt obligated to eat his food in a hurry and ate his food without breathing! I felt that their need to rush us out of the restaurant was very unprofessional and made the experience uncomfortable. What a wonderful eating experience for us. Service was above average and the young man was so nice. The ambiance was average and if they rearranged it could be more cozy. The dumplings were wonderful but we didn't like the crab Rangoon. Spice was perfect in our Lo Mein and the chicken was plentiful. We used to love this place and have been going for yrs. Hot and sour soup was too thick and gelatinous but biggest complaint was the service. There were three tables so not much to do but stand in the hostess station and stare at her phone. Waitress didn't bus any of the tables which was ridiculous and a basic role in that job (I waitressed in college). Husband wanted more water but I'd be a shame to leave the hostess station to do her job or see if anyone needed anything. Won't be back for a while. read more

Courteous, friendly staff always make me feel at home and when I was in a rush they would get my food out in a hurry! My favorites were the beef & broccoli, beef & vegetables and Lo Mien chicken. I have been a patron of Evergreen since 2000 when my family moved up to this neck of the woods. It's always been consistent and piping hot. Plus, it's nice to be recognized when you walk in. With that said, after our take out order on Friday, we will not return. They always had huge, homemade egg rolls. No more. These were small, obviously frozen, garbage. I asked for a cup of their brown sauce to dip them in, it was rancid. Sour. Absolutely disgusting. I ordered a small fried rice but after the first bite of rancid, frozen egg roll, I had no appetite left. Just gross. The restaurant of my childhood is no longer in our rotation. I am from California where there was a place known as Bings in San Bernardino, Could have been the best Chinese food in the world. The prices were low and the food was fantastic! Closed in the 80's. Since then I have always been looking for great Chinese food and I have been to China many times, American Chinese has always been better. But there are only a handful of places worth talking about. I have been trying all the places I can find in and around Kansas city in MO and KS. Always the same thing, what is this and how do they call this what they are calling it. The secret to the best Chinese food seems lost to most having adjusted the menu to be mostly built on low cost and fewest ingredients. So when I decided to try this place it was a hit and miss. Take sweet and sour pork. Most places serve it as chunks of over fried battered pork with a bucket of sweet and sour sauce and say its to preserve the crunchiness. Worst idea ever, so not having had any since arriving to KC cooked the right way, I thought OK. WOW! Finally, all the veggies and pork cooked properly together, OK but how about the pork? WOW! the first piece barely fit in my mouth it was so big! And the taste was fantastic and there was enough to feed 4 in one order for less than 10$ The Shrimp were succulent, the Beef also succulent and tender! Everything I ate brought back memories of the best Chinese food I ever had. They have real hot mustard! It was so good I felt I had to sit down and let the rest of the world know this place is worth the trip no matter how far you have to go because they just don't do it like this anymore! Was very depressed to learn recently that 'Echo' Linn closed his original flag-ship Evergreen's restaurant on State Avenue in Kansas City Kansas. Many great memories there because my first job out of high school was working for Linn at Evergreen the day they opened. In fact, this was my first experience with American Chinese and their after hours Chinese dinners we would eat at closing every night. Sad to hear. The owners cut their teeth at Bo Ling's of Kansas City before venturing out on their own. So you know they received top quality training in the Chinese restaurant biz. Well, I have been to this location in Bonner Springs many times and not much has changed with their quality Chinese fare. Hands down, some of the best fried rices, chicken dishes, crab rangoon, egg rolls, and lunch specials in all of KC Metro area. Prices are dirt cheap and you get a ton of food. Sure seems like Evergreen still employs great cooks. I remember the father, uncle, and brother cooking up fantastic food in the Evergreen kitchens. In fact if I remember correctly, the younger brother had cooked in some New York Chinese restaurants. This guy was talented with the knife and wok like no other. The wife used to run the front of the house and the drive thru to perfection. Service is and was top notch. Back to the food; The plain fried, chicken, and pork rices are so good it's ridiculous. Lots of grilled white and green onions. Scrambles eggs, and the meat of your choice. Customers tend to love their shrimp fried rice as well. Most of their chicken dishes are prepared with white meats and very tender. Perfect sweet and sour sauce that is homemade daily. Moo shoo dishes are good. A real surprise are the chicken wings at Evergreen. The crab rangoons are sweet and not overly done. The egg rolls are huge and crunchy. To this day i don't understand the whole American menu at the Bonner Springs Kansas location. Hamburgers, chicken strips, french fries, etc........huh? Not 100% certain they still do this. But quite odd. At one time, Evergreen had a restaurant off 76th Metcalf but closed years ago. Now I'm hearing they closed the original in KCK. Therefore, the Bonner Springs locale is the last one. Hope they stick it out for years to come. Evergreen is a fantastic option if you're out in that area of Kansas. read more

Got a couple kids meals and the chicken was too tough and dry for them to eat. The fries were soggy. The fried rice was mediocre at best, which keeps this at a 2 star instead of a one.
