We decided to try Red Fortune because of all the great reviews and because we were craving Chinese food. Well... you win some, you lose some. The orange egg drop soup looked more orange than egg drop, and the sweet and sour chicken came swimming in a pool of unnaturally orange goo that washed away any crispiness it may have once had. I also learned that ordering "no spice" apparently translates to "no flavor." My chicken mei fun was so bland it could have been used as a palate cleanser. I generally enjoy mei fun for its freshness. My husband said the same about his chicken and vegetables. The crab Rangoon? Let us just say the onions showed up ready to be the main character. On the bright side, we can officially check Red Fortune off our "restaurants to try" list. Sometimes the adventure is better than the meal! read more

My friend and I were up here from Springfield, MO. Now you have to understand that in Springfield, Mo they don't have cashew chicken. What they have is Springfield cashew chicken, which is not the same, nor is it wonderful at all. In fact finding decent Chinese food anywhere in Springfield is like searching for a needle in a stack of needles. In the middle of a hurricane. Naturally we are thinking where can we get some decent Chinese food that's not in Springfield, MO. and somehow we came up with next the Kansas City Raceway??? But don't let the geography fool you. This is some dang good Chinese food! Everything was wonderful. I had Kung Pao chicken, and my frield had just the regular old Cashew chicken. Boy oh boy did this just tantalize the taste buds with terrific taste! The waitress was super friendly and attentive, and it was nice and cool inside with plenty of seating. I ordered from Red Fortune for delivery the other day for lunch. I got the spicy beef with vegetables, the lettuce wraps, and my lunch combination came with hot and sour soup and a crab rangoon! I'd never eaten here before, but I've seen lots of good recommendations and decided to trust my neighbors! The food was amazing, so much chicken in the lettuce wraps, just the right spice in the hot and sour soup, and the crab rangoon was creamy and delicious. The spicy beef with vegetables was a perfectly medium spicy as I'd requested, and the vegetables were crisp and fresh. My delivery came 10 minutes before it was projected, was perfectly sealed, and hot. I would definitely dine in if given the opportunity, but I will continue to definitely order carry out! read more

This is my favorite Chinese place. I could and have gone here multiple times a week. My boyfriend and I always get egg drop soup and split the combination fried rice and the sesame chicken. The chicken is one of the crispiest ones you'll get. It's always hot and the sauce is the perfect consistency. The flavor is there but not overwhelming. Their fried rice is also to die for, as it's very moist and flavorful. They're generous with the amount of chicken, beef, and seafood you get as well. The egg drop soup and crunchy things is also a great way to start the meal. Their soup is unique and unlike other egg drop soups I've had but I love it. The service and consistency here never fail to disappoint. They're quick and friendly. We aren't too close to Red Fortune but the drive is always worth it. I'd recommend eating there if you get any of the chicken and want it at its top crispiness. read more

It was time for Chinese. I'm a Kansan by birth but new to the Edwardsville/Bonner Springs area. The downtown Bonner area has had a lot of development recently. We found Red Fortune and were very pleased. It's clean & bright and had a fair amount of diners for a Tuesday night. We were immediately greeted and led to a booth and our drink orders were taken. We were given paper menus with lots of choices, from apps, soups, seafood, chicken, beef, & vegetarian options. My standby is sweet & sour chicken plus I ordered eggrolls which came quickly. Fresh and plump full of cabbage & other goodness. Then came the Entre with steamed rice in a bowl for me to serve myself, and a generous platter of red juicy crunchy chicken with the usual green pepper, pineapple chunks, and chunked onion. I was definitely in my happy place. The chicken cut easily with a fork. Not like the Chinese buffet I was used to in other restaurants. It was delicious! Service was very attentive, refilling my soda 3 times. And as soon as I admitted I could eat no more, she was there asking if I wanted a take home box, which I certainly did. She promptly brought box and sack, and emptied my serving dishes into the box and sacked it for home. Excellent service!! I've been coming to Red Fortune since high school! It's my comfort food-- delicious sauces, soups, and noodles for a reasonable price. The restaurant is family-owned and operated. Service is quick, and you might even feel a little rushed, so it's not the best spot to linger. But their lunch specials are unbeatable. Less than $9 for a soup, entree, fried or white rice, and side of crab rangoon or egg roll! Lunch is served from 11 am to 3 pm every day except Sunday, when they're closed. The Moo Goo Gai Pan is my favorite because of the tender mushrooms, chicken, and water chestnuts. It also contains slices of carrots, snow peas, and onions. The white sauce is the best I've had. The Cashew Chicken's brown sauce is also super yummy. I'm not someone who goes out of my way to eat zucchini, but I always clear my plate with this dish, including all the veggies. There aren't any dessert options other than fortune cookies, so don't expect to satisfy your sweet tooth. But if you want to go home with leftovers and a full stomach for under $10, this is your spot. read more

This was our first experience with red fortune. We have had neighbors recommend them and haven't found "our" go to Chinese since moving to this side of town. Tonight we just had time for take out. Super fast and the food was still hot when I got home. Bonus!! We ordered kinda a sampler to help the evaluation process. Egg drop and hot&sour soups, egg rolls, crab Rangoon, orange chicken (all white meat), and kung pao beef. Total $36.71 We will give them another chance but was not impressed with the orange chicken nor egg rolls. The crab Rangoon and hot & sour soup was the clear winner tonight. Our biggest blunder was egg rolls... disappointing I know because outside they looked like a 10. However, inside was nearly all cabbage and it was stringy shreds at that. Not my favorite way but wifey didn't like it either. The problem with orange chicken was the orange peel was charred black and ultimately was lacking that blast of flavor I'm used too. Again might have been a bad night we will try again. A surprise was the kung pao beef good flavor and beef was very tender. Never had it as beef always chicken before might be on to something here... hot and sour soup was really good had more of a savory vegetable soup flavor than the traditional sweet and spicy I'm used too. Proportions were decent. I wish they had a dinner meal special like soup, crab Rangoon or egg roll and main dish. According other reviews they have this option at lunchtime. read more

4 course meal with beers was only $15pp! What a steal (before tip and tax). Crab Rangoon was a little too creamy and less craby but big portion of 6 for $6. Egg drop soup (my fave) was yummy with wontons. General Tso's chicken - um yummy - and Pork & Vegetables - um healthy - and we left with leftovers and full bellies. 2 people can share 1 $10 entrees easily! Service was fast and food was hot. Good stuff. My go to is General Cho's chicken which can be ordered unbranded I'd gluten is an issue. Their lunch special includes rice (white or fried), a crab Rangoon or egg roll, and egg drop or hot and sour soup. Portions are hearty. The crab Rangoon is thick and heavy, as a heads up for those who like light, thing Rangoon. Normally it's pretty easy to get seated, even during lunch and dinner times. Staff is most friendly and cordial, although there is one middle aged waiter (might be the owner) who just wants to get you served and gone. He can be perceived as gruff and unfriendly. Overall Red Fortune has decent food and a good price. I usually eat there several times each month. read more

My waitress Maggie was VERY polite! INCREDIBLE waiting skills and perfect timing in between checking up on my table. The two "owners" one female named Lisa I assume, they were very intolerable, they had a negative impact on my experience because they were rushing me to order my drinks and yelling at my waitress for mistakes that were NOT at all her fault.
