I had the Chicken Pad Thai $12 and asked them to hold the bean sprouts. Overall I thought it was ok, but nothing great. I was hoping that it would have some other vegetables in it like cabbage, carrots or peppers, but it was basically just noodles, egg, and chicken. It was really un-photogenic and tasted like it looked. I liked that the chicken was lean and there weren't any fatty nor gristlely bits. The flavour itself was ok, not too salty nor too sweet. It didn't taste like ketchup or anything like that thankfully. It was just kind of unremarkable IMO. I would say it was along the lines of Thai Express, but more expensive :(

It is a counter in the Queen street fare, that was opened a year or two ago with a high end decor, comfortable environment, and other interesting vendors. The food our party tried (grilled pork on vermicelli, General Tso chicken on rice, spring rolls and pork belly bun) were all well seasoned and fresh. The quantities are on the slightly smaller size but the flavours and freshness are there! The presentation is very nice too. Definitely will have this again.

It's a little food shack next to Tru Tea. They just opened at the beginning of September 2024. They sell Asian food, mostly snack foods like Bao, pan-fried buns and dumplings, but they also had General Tao Chicken, wonton soup, and Japanese curry. I got an order of General Tao Chicken ($6.99) with no sesame seeds and without rice, as well as the Pan-fried Beef Bing ($9.99) for my husband and I to share as a snack. The portion of the General Tao Chicken was small, like an appetizer, which was expected for the price. It was a bit doughy with lots of breading, but still tasted good. It was dark meat. The sauce was sweet and not spicy at all. The beef bing (there were 2 per order) were a bit greasy but had good flavour and the dough wasn't too thick. They have 2 seats indoors but lots of outdoor seating. I guess they will be mostly a takeout place in the winter. Service was pleasant. I spoke with the owner and she said they opened the restaurant because her parents "wanted something to do." LOL. Not sure I'd want to run a restaurant/food truck in my golden years, but hey, if it makes them happy. I'm thrilled to have a new place in the neighbourhood that sells hot foods you can have as snacks. My husband and I often go for walks in the neighbourhood and sometimes I feel for some food, but just something snacky like a samosa or bao, so this place fits the bill perfectly. Looking forward to trying out their other items. Street parking only. (173)

The hubby recently got takeout from Nom Nom a couple of weeks ago, and forgot how good it was, while it has been a couple of years since I've had takeout from here. We ordered the sesame balls, veggie spring rolls, sweet potato croquettes, tofu spicy fried noodles, and Singapore noodles. The sesame balls and the veggie spring rolls were reminiscent of the stuff you'd get at an AYCE restaurant, but they were still good. The sweet potato croquettes was a first for me, and they were very much like a large hash brown, but super fluffy inside. My suggestion is to wait for them to cool down a bit and eat them warm or room temperature. My toddler loved these, but I thought they were just OK. The Korean spicy fried noodles was the star of the show, although a bit too greasy for my liking, they did hit the spot. I really enjoyed their take on cooking tofu. I think they took deep fried puffed tofu, flattened it down and fried it with the noodles, where it resembled sliced pork. There was a lot of nice color to it, as well as a slight char, and the texture was amazing. Keep it mind, it was a tad greasy as well. I didn't care for the Singapore noodles. My hubby loves this dish, but said he's had it made better else where, so its all personal preference. I do like that you can customize a lot of the meals into vegetarian meals, so major kudos to that. I don't crave Asian cuisine all that often, so I don't think I will be rushing back, but it was nice to switch things up and try out something new.

The Long Version: I love supporting small independent businesses and have found great eats in food courts, at food trucks and in industrial parks. So when I saw that the Place d'Orleans food court had a new vendor that wasn't a chain, I wanted to check out. I first noticed this eatery in July 2025 but it opened in May 2025. The bonus was that the mall was having this promotion for all of July 2025 where if you spend $25 or more at one participating food court vendor after 5pm Monday -Saturday you take your receipt to Guest Services and you get a $10 mall gift card. What a great deal! And Umi Eatery was on the list of participating vendors! Umi Eatery sells pan-asian fare. They have Bento boxes, teriyaki, ramen, udon, poke bowls, bibimbap, Tanghulu, mochi, bubble tea and more. I got the chicken teriyaki ($9.99) and the beef bibimbap ($16.99). The chicken teriyaki was fantastic! Easily the best chicken teriyaki I've ever had at a food court. I found it superior to places like Teriyaki Experience and Edo Japan. And even better than some sit-down restaurants I've had it at. It was full of flavour and not oily/greasy at all. And it wasn't too saucy or wet. It had chicken, rice, bean sprouts, broccoli, red cabbage and carrots. The portion size was good. I will definitely get this again. The beef bibimbap was very respectable for fast food. Not as good as most sit-down restaurants, but better than some sit-down restaurants I've been to. It had white rice, carrots, zucchini, bean sprouts, kimchi, beef and a sunny side up fried egg. It came with a side of Gochujang. I enjoyed it, but found the chicken teriyaki more flavourful and better bang for my buck. I shared both dishes with my parents and they agreed with my assessment. Service was excellent. The man working there was both the cashier and the cook and he was very courteous and efficient. He even advised me of the mall promotion when he gave me my receipt. I had taken advantage of the mall promotion with another vendor in the food court previously and not only did they not mention the promotion but they didn't even give me a receipt and I had to ask for it. So customer service at Umi Eatery reigns supreme! Lol. I returned on a subsequent visit and got their chicken teriyaki again and their Takoyaki (6 pieces for $6.99). The Takoyaki was refried from frozen, but still very tasty for what it was. And they were generous with the bonito flakes. I asked for no sesame seeds and they happily accommodated. They are my new favourite vendor in this food court! Lots of free parking in the mall parking lot. Also very accessible by public transit since Place d'Orleans is an OC Transpo hub. I was having a real craving for Hunan Dumplings and they had it at Ting's Kitchen ($8.95). I also got an order of General Tao Chicken ($10.95) for my husband, as it's one of his favourite dishes. Both dishes had some spicy heat to them. The Hunan Dumplings were in a thin peanut sauce and chili oil. I would have liked a slightly thicker peanut sauce and less chili oil, but I still really enjoyed it, and it wasn't too greasy/oily. The General Tao Chicken had onions, carrots, mushrooms and green peppers in it. It wasn't crispy, but still tasted good. The batter was not excessive and the meat was not gristley, so I was happy with this. The food overall I would rate 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up to 4 because service was good and I like supporting small local businesses. I called in my order and went to pick it up. I had requested no sesame seeds and they obliged. The lady on the phone was courteous and efficient. She said it would be ready in 30 minutes. I got there in 30 minutes and it was waiting for me. There's free parking in the plaza.
