The owner of this restaurant is a dickhead. I have been there multiple time. The way he treated his return customer blew my mind. I was going to order a take-out for dinner. Asked him to take my order freaking 3 times. Didn't get an answer. And the last time he just threw words saying I was RUDE and he'd not take my order when I was on the phone with others. I guess that's why it's pretty much empty there whenever I go. The food is okayish , but the portion is tiny. Entrees are appetizer size from other restaurants. Since moving out to Franklin County a little over a year ago, I get some pretty bad cravings for Thai food since it is not as readily available as it once was. Luckily, my husband and I have to make frequent trips to Manchester Rd. to go to Menard's and pick up various things for our ongoing, never-ending home improvement projects. On our last Menard's excursion, we decided that we would grab some Thai food before heading to pick up some pavers for a path we are putting in. Lucky us for having stumbled upon Rice Thai Bistro!!! We had a wonderful meal, on top of great service. Our waiter was a younger, college-aged kid who was very courteous and super helpful. We were having trouble deciding between a few different dishes and he gladly helped us make our final decisions. My husband, Alex, and I always split our dishes, so we opted for one safe stand-by choice (chicken pad thai) and one more adventurous choice (boat noodle soup - which was one of our waiter's favorite dishes). We were more than pleased with both dishes. The presentation was a step above the normal Thai restaurant and the portion sizes were generous. The pad thai was sweet, flavorful, and just plain delicious. The boat soup was comforting, had a great flavor depth, and incorporated these tasty fish balls that I couldn't get enough of. To top our meal off, our waiter offered to box my soup up and put the noodles and the broth in separate containers to prevent the noodle from getting soggy. He really went that extra mile and made our already enjoyable meal that much better. We will most definitely be back to Rice Thai Bistro sometime soon! read more

What a find! First let me say that I am a big fan of Asian cooking and had high hopes when we first went to the Rice Thai Bistro. While it is easy to make a quick judgment about new places, I generally withhold my comments until I have been to a new establisment at least twice. Well, here goes. OMG! While the atmosphere is quaint given the number of tables, I was impressed by the open comments being made by others at their tables as they received and began tasting the beautifully prepared dishes. It wasn't until we received our plates that we truly understood the excitement and fun others were having. The amazing part of our experience at Rice Thai Bistro is the care taken by the owners/chefs Brian and Nina to present the food almost like art. From the crab rangoon, the simplest of salads or complex dishes like Massaman Beef or Yellow Curry with Squid, each dish feels like it was especially made for you. Can we all say "Flavortown"!! We saw good reviews and decided to try this place. Brian the owner was familiar to us as he used to be with another local restaurant before going on his own. I tried the eggplant and hubby had the shrimp plah kong which really enjoyed. I also had the papaya salad which was very fresh. Tiny place with not a lot of seating (so I guess we can call that "intimate"...). Staff is friendly enough and we walked in and sat right down since there were only a half-dozen people seated around the place already (on a Friday night).. it's weird having another Thai restaurant within a few blocks of our favorite but still wanted to check out Rice Thai Bistro. Experiences from the 3 of us dining: - waited a very long time for the Thai Iced Coffee drinks ordered at the same time as the meals and appetizers... apps arrived and were finished and main dishes started arriving and we had to remind the waiter about them. - the crab rangoons aren't your usual style (long wonton rolls and almost like fat straws)... they weren't on the menu and we got only 3... they could have used more crab and less cream cheese. - entrees arrived one at a time with a several minute delay between each so by the time the 3rd one arrived the 1st one was already quite cooled (we like to pray and eat together so we waited until all had arrived) - portions are average size and fresh ingredients... pricier though than our favorite Thai place a few blocks away.. So, overall, not a bad visit... but it's small and lacking in Thai ambience and lots more seating and lots more staffing that our favorite place has... not sure if we'll be back to do any more comparisons... read more

I can't believe people rate this place this high! Aside by stl standards they are not pricy. For the food quality though, it is NOT worth it! We went on a Saturday night, there was one big group and that's it. A group of four followed by us in a few minutes. We got greeted and sat down, nothing outrages yet. It was a 90f day and the place was tiny with an open kitchen design - it was FREAKING HOT! Not to mention all the greasy fume flying out to the dining area. We got a corner and group of four sat by us. The group of four got served first...we thought it was quite rude but didn't think to hard about it. There was one server who looked monotone and maybe overwhelmed. (? Can't tell from his cold expression) Ordered a Thai tea, a bbq pork appetizer, two main courses. Again, don't think anything outrageous was requested. The wait started...the table of 4 got their food in 10 minutes! WTF I was thinking inside. Then the big party of 12 was being fed right after the 4, so for whatever reason we were being food discriminated by this restaurant. Clock ticked for an hour, we got our food when the table of 4 finished for 10 minutes chatting how great the food was. I got a Thai fried rice and hubby got pan SEARED fish - not, it was deep fried and tastes like rubber. Mine was a stir fry of black pepper rice, disgusting was a better word to describe the food. It took us 5 minutes to eat the food, not cuz we were that hungry, cuz the food was so bad. I asked for some spicy to hope to help swallow the food. The waiter was so busy running check (for one group) i didn't get the spice till I'm done. I have not not pay tips to a restaurant for years, this place got the crown$. Best Thai food I've ever had! This place is quaint. It's located in Winchester Mall, a small strip mall next to a boxing place. My husband and I were both blown away. The chicken pad Thai was amazing. The crab Rangoon came differently then I've ever had it before and was delicious. Hubby had Jungle Curry with chicken and he declared it excellent. That's exactly they had no business no people in there when I picked it up at around 6 Saturday night. Not the way you do business fyi. Check the pics out. No I do not recommend it. Had green curry with chicken and this is eggplant dish. Green curry chicken was not even half full in the container for around $10. Eggplant around $10. A spoon full of rice all for around $32. My wife and I have had dinner here twice in two weeks and in each case the food (rice, noodle and curry dishes) was outstanding! We've eaten a lot of Thai food over the years and this little place (8-10 tables) creates some of the best that we've ever had. The restaurant can be a bit busy at dinner time, but the quality of their offerings make the wait worthwhile. Brain and his wife are very talented chefs and that talent is on display with each meal served. Casual ambiance when upscale food presentation. Brian not only cooks the food, but takes time to visit with customers, waits and buses the tables when necessary. Give this place a try. Sniped some gyoza from my mom which was also very good. My brother had green curry and also said it was yummy. Food: Sought out because of Ian Froeb's mention on Top 100. Rangoon (if you like warm cream cheese rolls, order) & spring rolls both subpar. Red & green curry incredibly watery, but good flavor. Pad basil w/ pork probably best of the bunch, though green beans basically raw. Wonton soup bad....bok choy mush. Chive dumplings fine, lots of unnecessary lettuce. Everything quite salty. Side of sticky rice was gelatinous blob, inedible. No signifiers of spice level anywhere on website or GrubHub menu. Perhaps I've been spoiled by Thai in Chicago, but very underwhelmed. Flavors didn't resemble any thai I've had in Chicago & San Diego...and not in a good way. Service: I hate to do this in the current climate, but I was quite disappointed with the service I received here. No one answered the phone when I tried calling multiple times midday during lunch hours, so I placed a $100+ order on GrubHub for pickup. I noted a few substitutions per the website menu that I didn't see on Grubhub. For example, I wrote "if available" on a couple items, and asked for a side or rice noodles instead of rice. NONE of these requests were honored, not even the rice noodles which were certainly available, and I was not contacted by the restaurant in any way. When I arrived, I was told the website menu was out of date and they did not have a paper menu to provide. So the only way to see an accurate menu is through Grubhub?? When I asked if I could swap coconut juice for soda (had written in thai iced tea), I was met with a stutter. Moreover, the employee was not wearing a mask which made me wary. Kitty and I had the Garlic/Pepper Squid as an appetizer, and she ordered the Pad See Ewe, and I had the Snapper Sam Rod(Crispy); latter two were Specials. Not worth the money, small portions& menu not updated on web site... we had a jungle curry with beef it had three small slices of beef and 1/2 of cup of low flavor broth 1/2 cup of rice few veggies I could count on one hand! 13.95 wow!! The other noddle dish with shrimp stuck together noddles with 4 16/20 shrimp and very little vegetable shrimp were good just 4 ? Pad Thai was ok but maybe 8 slice of chicken the size of dimes?? Both were 10.95 . We got it to go and was cold. They said 30min I was there in 27.. they had a part of 12 that the chef seemed to be catering to maybe we were served there leftovers ... two orders of purple rice pudding salty and for 3.95 each wow... well that's St. Louis Thai I guess?
