I originally booked Secluded Lake Lodge to use over a weekend as a writer's retreat with a small…read moregroup of friends. As we got closer to the trip, and more friends heard about the retreat, a larger group asked to join. The owner was super responsive when I asked to increase the size for the booking and we all ended up having an incredible time. It's the perfect getaway for a summer weekend or any time for that matter. I just wish it was a little closer to Columbus. A few friends wanted to camp down by the lake and the home fit everyone else perfectly with room to spare. The property is amazing. The home is right off the road, but the lake is down a long path, out in the middle of nowhere. We spent the days swimming, grilling out, playing lawn games and eventually hanging out by a fire thanks to the wood that the property manager had left for us down by the lake. There's certain places your mind just functions at 100%. For me, this was one of them. I wrote the entire outline for a movie and began part of the screenplay. Not long after I stayed, my writing partner and I sold the script and it ended up being produced up in Canada. Secluded Lake Lodge was actually a big part of that whole experience -- so thank you again! Can't wait to come back sometime. I'm actually going to reach out to my friends and see if we can find a few days this summer to make it back out.

My main complaint was the behavior of the property manager. The rental is specifically secluded, from the title of the house to the words spoken by the owner you would be alone completely, even so that the key is left under the mat when coming and going to avoid interaction with anyone. - and that's not what we got. When we were grilling outside in the front at like 8pm a car drove past the house over and over and over again scaring the crap out of my guests and making me uncomfortable too. Eventually the payroll of the house stopped and we tucked in. Later in the morning around 8 the property manager stopped in front of the barn across the street and walked over and talked to one of my friends. Asking her with a mean demeanor who she was and why we were grilling and what we were doing, making her justify our actions at fucking 8 in the morning after a night of drinking. Not only that but he didn't even talk to me, he talked to my friend who in no way deserved what felt like an 8 am bunk check. He was telling her that he had had bad people rent the house as of late and they did things like burn cans and things?? Even if he did have tenants behave in a way that made it more difficult for him to clean up after them the rules of the house say to drink responsibly and not let pets on the bed.. nothing else. We did not deserve to be bombarded, disrespectfully and not even directly due to the behavior or other renters. The beds were also the worst I've ever encountered, grass on the way back to the lake was unkempt and made walking a nightmare, the house smelled like old people, and the decorations were also very old. The owner also never returned my email about my complaint. All in all had the encounter with the property manager not happened i would have been pleased because i had already seen the house but it ruined my view of the stay and i would never go back.

The camp host, John, was extremely helpful on providing where to find the nearest gas station. He offered me food and welcomed me in. He's the prime example of genuine hospitality. The campsite and bathroom were very clean. John is very attentive and you can see the care he puts into his work. Also, he has 25 years of experience with welding!
