Rather than downloading the mobile application for American Airlines--the airline I was flying with--I visited their website to check in early and took a screenshot of my boarding pass. Since I only had a carry-on bag, this allowed me to head straight to TSA security instead of waiting to see an agent. As for my airport experience, TSA was not crowded at all with it being Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Even with that, I always dread going through security because of the possibility of being screened heavily, but all went smoothly! The only things I removed from my body were my jacket, backpack, and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Half Marathon medal placing each item inside either the bin, or my jacket pocket. After a light screening of my Garmin Instinct GPS watch on my wrist, I was well on my way to locate the gate within the terminal, which was not a hard find. While en route to the gate, the first thing I admired in the terminal was a public art piece from the 'GuitarMania' project. It featured a blue and white decorative guitar headstock wall display with the word 'Cleveland' in script. Even though I was not hungry, I took notice of some food and snack options within the terminal. These included The Pub, Dunkin', Currito, Chick-fil-A, Shake Shack, Bruegger's Bagels, Bar Symon, and Auntie Anne's. Furthermore, I was relieved to find postcards to add to my travel collection. They were pricey, as most seem to be now. The airport shops I found that sold postcards were the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Airport Store and Hudson. Hudson also carried fan apparel for college sports teams in Cleveland and throughout Ohio. I was also able to buy keychains and magnets for my coworkers at Hudson, right outside the TSA screening area. Oh my God! The lingering scent of Auntie Anne's pretzels lured me back to the area once I located my gate, where I caved and purchased bite-sized cinnamon rolls from Cinnabon instead! This Cinnabon was literally right next to Auntie Anne's, which did terrible things to my willpower. Being inside an airport always reminds me how people cannot walk in a straight line because there is always someone walking in your direction. I always find myself maneuvering around like the spaceship in the Asteroids arcade game, avoiding collisions. This airport visit was no different, except for me overhearing "Love Me Two Times" by The Doors playing in the background. The American Airlines gate I flew out of appeared professional, with a very well-maintained seating area compared to other airlines I have flown out of. I rarely encounter boarding areas with clean seats and no trash left behind, which is hard to unsee. Within certain airline gates, there were workstations as well as seats with charging outlets, giving me the chance to charge my cell phone before boarding my flight. Although the flight back to Chicago was delayed, I was updated via email and Google on the flight's status, and thankfully it was held up for no longer than an hour. Even with the delay, the boarding process was very organized and professional, which is all I can ask for. There are plenty of great restaurants and lounges to choose from, along with plenty of grab and goes. Hudson News offers a great array of books, snack, souvenirs and other stuff if you happen to forget things at home. Depending on the airline the gate agents are friendly and eager to help when you get delayed or have questions. Parking isn't half bad either.

Every time I've gone through security, I'm always shocked that I can walk right through with no wait. Upon going through security, the terminal is small, with limited seating and charging areas. They have a couple of dining options, and multiple large, clean bathrooms. If you're renting a car while in Columbus, this airport makes is super easy. The shuttle to the rental car center leaves every 15 minutes from a stop right outside of baggage claim.

"Akron Canton Airport " may have changed my mind. I just had the best airport experience I can remember in a long long time. I parked right out front. And a man in a van followed me to my parking space and took me and my luggage directly to the entrance... FOR FREE! Can you believe that? Then when I entered the building it was clean, not crowded, good signage, friendly helpful people, efficient. It was a breath of fresh air. If at all possible, I will use this airport for all my travel.

This small airport used to serve as a nice, more navigable, lower stress alternative to DTW…read more Nowadays, however, it is a shell of what it used to be, and I find that extremely regrettable. It is too close to DTW, which cannibalizes much of TOL's would-be business, and the City of Toledo is not in the economic condition it used to be making it less attractive as an airline destination. I am hoping newer upstarts such as Avelo and Breeze (or similar future airlines) can help revive this and other airports like it. In the 80s and 90s, as many as seven airlines made use of TOL at any given time. The activity involved as many as 40 flights to 14 destinations. This small airport with its 9-gate terminal actually peaked in 1997 with nearly 689,000 passengers. Years of decline accelerated by the recession resulted in Amercan Airlines as the only remaining legacy airline by the mid-2010s. Traffic declined to well less than 200K passengers, but a mini boom started in 2015 led by the popularity of AA's TOL to Charlotte, NC route. This resulted in a peak of nearly 250K passengers in 2018. But then COVID happened and by 2022, AA was gone leaving just Allegiant's specialized service as the sole commercial operator. I started using the airport when I moved where I am currently in SE Michigan in 2005. I routinely took NW/Delta to DTW. There I connected to where I needed to go. Unfortunately, Delta pulled out in 2011. I used it a few more times to fly AA to ORD, but I can count those times on one hand. I loved using this airport for many reasons. It was much easier for my wife to drop me at and pick me up from TOL than from DTW. It was half the drive time from my home and it was much, much easier to get in and out of the facility. When I did need to park and fly, it was MUCH cheaper to do so relative to the usurious rates charged for parking at DTW. Check-in was a breeze and the security was easy. TSA was friendly and comparatively easy to deal with. I could get here an hour or even 45 minutes before flight time and still make my flight (not that I would have recommended doing so). And upon arrival, the small baggage claim area with just two carousels made luggage collection and getaway much quicker. I miss this easy alternative. Nowadays, I use TOL strictly for an occasional rental car pickup. The only airline operating from TOL is Allegiant, which specializes in FL vacation destinations. These are not where I typically need (or want) to go. It has probably been five or six years since I last flew from TOL. I hope at some point TOL can make a comeback. Somehow, the decline and demise of smaller airports just seems synonymous with faceless corporate smothering of America. This is a nice little airport that could serve a commercial purpose with just a little help, some imagination and less greed. A city of nearly 250K-plus people should have an airport of their own as a matter of pride, independence and identity. I realize economics drives decisions on these things, but perhaps having that as the overwhelming criterion for decision-making is part of the problem. But that's a discussion for another time.

If you buy fuel here landing and parking fees are waived.

The inside of the building was super clean and the bathroom was perfectly clean. I would be honored to call this my local airport. I should have checked in twice today as I filled up with fuel then after going for lunch I flew back here to top off with fuel again before heading home. They even had popcorn made inside, I didn't get any as I was going for lunch, then was on the way home from lunch. But it was still there. Why only 4 stars, well I was told in the summer they have food available Friday afternoon, Saturday afternoon and Sunday Afternoon, so I have to have a reason to come back.

They can even coordinate a rental car for you on the field for about $40/day -- much cheaper than taking a taxi even one-way to the park. You can simply drop it off back at the airport. It's also the closest fuel stop if you're visiting Put-In-Bay. Nice, long runways and Griffin Air Services is the mechanic shop on the field. Overall, it's a nice regional airport to fly into with well maintained runways and instrument approaches. If you're visiting Cedar Point, this will be your stop!
