Rick Goldberg has been my doctor since a co-worker referred me to him about 25 years ago when I moved to New York City from Long Island. In that time I've trusted him for my care (which he has managed with compassion, care and a responsiveness that is missing in so many other doctors) and have become, because of the type of person he is, his friend as well. I've recommended him to numerous friends and family members who are all as happy with him as I am. If there is any downside to his practice it is his office staff which, over the years, has ranged from competent to problematic - but that has never changed my faith in him, his partner and his nurses to deliver on point, affordable and comprehensive care. He's the greatest! Okay sometime he gets cranky with his staff but he is always great to his patients. He makes them feel like friends and he really cares. His referrals are all top choices. He returns calls within hours not days. When was the last time a Doctor did that?/ He knows his stuff and has some holistic methods as well as traditional ones. I have seen Dr. Goldberg for the past 25 years, perhaps 30, I don't remember because I am 30 years old! He is a great doctor, and has never given me drugs I didn't need, and has even advised against drugs I requested to quit smoking because of side effects. I tried it anyway, and he was right! Dr. Goldberg was really nice to me and was quick and efficient. He addressed my main concerns, though somewhat quickly. My total appointment time was about 15 minutes, including the blood draw with the tech. He answered all of my questions and seemed willing to stay if I had more. BUT, I was less impressed with the relationships the staff and doctors seemed to have with one another. Dr. Goldberg seemed to have a really short temper with Dr. Leeds and yelled at him in the hallway when I was there. Dr. Goldberg also snapped some passive aggressive comments at the staff, who were none too happy. I overheard one of them saying how she was going to quit that week because she hated it there and already had her resumes ready to send out. It didn't really affect my care at all (I think?) but it was uncomfortable and somewhat unsettling to see. Overall, given how hard it is to find a good doc, I give this Doc 3 stars. read more

Dr. Goldberg is my family doctor, and I do agree that Dr. Goldberg is a wonderful doctor. I like that he takes his time to sit and talk with me about anything that concerns me or my children about our health. I do appreciate when he "tells it like it is". He doesn't sugar coat anything and I admire that. I also don't appreciate how rude the staff is. I actually like it when Dr. Goldberg puts them in their place. Because most of the staff that deals with taking appointments and/or calls for him are very unprofessional. I give them zero for their customer service provided by receptionist or nurse whoever answered the phone today. I called Dr Goldeberg's office to request some documents to be faxed to my specialist. The answer I got from the receptionist was "Sweetie, this is not a good time." What IN the WORLD. First of all, YOU DON'T KNOW ME SO DON't YOU SWEETIE ME! Second of all, who talks to a patient like that! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. (PLEASE tell me When is it a good time for me to freaking call you!?? Let me make a f**ing appointment with you before I call.) Then I told her I just need a one piece of record. She replies, "We are over booked today" What does it have to do with anything!?! Then she said "I can't do it. Because I have to find your record and fax it, That is time consuming." (WITH A MAJOR DIVA ATTITUDE) ARE YOU FREAKING SERIOUS?!? I DO NOT need an attitude from a receptionist who doesn't know how to do their job professionally and nerve to say that finding a record and faxing it is TIME CONSUMING. Just because of your inability to do your tasks at work and stressed out because someone or yourself stupidly overbooked the schedule, that doesn't mean you have a right to talk to your customer/patient like that. She could've just said. I am sorry but it might take some time to send it then I would've understood. I don't care how good the doctor is, I am NEVER going back to this office. I've been going to Dr. Goldberg for the past 10 years. He is my favorite doctor of all time. I trust him with my medical care, he always fits me in when I have an illness, he gives me direct, good advice about my health, he is funny, interesting, intelligent and a fabulous doctor. At least 5 of my friends now use Dr. Goldberg from my recommendations and we are all very happy with him. My only caveat with his practice is that I am not a fan of his front desk staff. Impolite, short tempered, slightly rude but Doc Goldberg is a GEM! Love this man. read more

This man needs to have his license revoked or he needs to have about 15 unnecessary surgeries performed on him. He is all that is wrong with healthcare, embodied in one man. I went to him one time, he did a blood test, saw some elevated levels and sent me directly to a surgeon who operated (because they always want to operate) instead of sending me to a specialist (in my case, an endocrinologist). The surgeon didn't cure what I had, because I needed to be seen by a specialist. On top of this, I have often seen him yelling at his staff. Stay away from this quack. read more

Dr. Goldberg is the only GP I've seen since moving to NY 9 years ago. The office is always able to squeeze me in if I have an emergency and I appreciate that he's more interested in solving the problem as opposed to shoving unnecessary drugs at me and sending me on my way. I went to Dr. Goldberg for an overall checkup, some tests, and an injection and I think this place is really good. The receptionists are nice and helpful and the nurses are awesome :o) Doctor Goldberg is very professional, yet cool and down to earth, he would not have you spend hundreds of dollars on unnecessary medication etc ;o) However, I felt the visits were kind of rushed, but I guess they have to do it because the waiting room's always packed (I have never experienced any delays though :o) read more

He is a good doctor. His office staff is TERRIBLE!!!!!! They put you on hold for 5-6 minutes then hang up on you. Never get faxes...I have 3 confirmations from the fax machine and I followed up with a phone call, but my fax was never processed!! My pharmacy has called - they don't return phone calls!!! 4 stars for Dr. G and ZERO stars for the front desk. I have been seeing Dr. G for 30 years and my daughter has been seeing him for 18 and my husband is now seeing him. I love his bedside manner and I always feel like I am not being rushed however... His front desk staff is rude and uneducated and I feel like I am dealing with Rosie Perez and her Ghetto friends everytime I call or go in there... Dr. Goldberg has been my primary care physician for several decades, and I have referred both friends and colleagues to him without reservation. He is empathetic, well-related, and a very good doctor. I have seen him for many serious health concerns and have always been well-satisfied with the level of medical care and attention. Dr. Goldberg is a wonderful physician. He rarely pushes pharmaceuticals first (which is the weak/default choice for many doctors today). Usually Dr. Goldberg suggested improvements in diet and/or exercise that worked, and he even cured a few of my significant symptoms by showing me appropriate stretching techniques. That said, he also prescribed me medicine when necessary or advisable. He gave me quality referrals to quality specialists around the city, and he also gave me solid advice through some of life's tricky situations. He suggested I take blood tests every few years -- which if anything was probably less frequent than many doctors do. These legal charges feel like a sham to me. The only reason I dont give a 5th star to this office is because his staff was a little difficult at times -- it's tough to find good people! Dr Goldberg gave me a pretty quick "annual" exam on my first visit, but he seemed ok. The trouble with them is that if your insurance requires a referral they will not fax them to the referring doctor, nor will they call you back when you leave a message on their phone answering machine that specifically says "press 4 for referrals." They require that you go into their office from 9-4:45 (not including 12-12:45 for lunch) and pick up every referral to bring it to your doctor. I think Dr. Goldberg is a very good doctor. He knows his stuff, has never talked down to me or made me feel like what I was there for was trivial (unlike other doctors I have seen), and he really knows his stuff. He looks right at you when you talk (unlike other doctors I have seen) and he has caught things other doctors I have seen have missed. He has been practicing for decades and he always has answers. I feel I am in good medical hands with him, and I trust his expertise. He is there when you need him and he is invested in his work. And a good internist is hard to find these days, especially one who takes insurance. However, he has a somewhat gruff manner and can be a little potty-mouthed. I don't mean he is disrespectful because he is respectful. I mean he does not have a docile manner and he doesn't spare telling you if he is pissed off about something unrelated to your visit and he is not afraid to curse. That might not be everybody's cup of tea. But to me it is worth it because he is a solid and competent physician and he does care about his patients. But just to give you a heads-up about that. The other thing to know about the practice is that they won't mail you prescription renewals; you have to pick them up in person. This can be a drag if they are for physical therapy, because it means you have to hobble down there for the script when you are dealing with back pain already. "Doctor Richard Goldberg" is the most dangerous kind of doctor there is. You can't help but love the guy! He's funny, he's sweet and he is one of the most likable doctors yo will ever meet. This is what makes him so dangerous. Because if you get sick you are screwed. This guy is so busy to get you in and out of there he never really takes any of your symptoms seriously. I saw "Doctor Richard Goldberg" for17 years and when I started having hip pain that progressively got worse and worse he told me it was stress. It turned out I had torn the lining and needed surgery. I went misdiagnosed for over a year. That's when I should have gotten a new primary care doctor, but I liked Richard so much I stayed. 3 years ago, I walked in after I had gained 15 pounds in 2 months at the age of 42 and I asked him to test me for everything. He said absolutely! He told me I was perfectly healthy. Over the course of next 3 years I continued to see him as my symptoms and weight gain worsened. He told me, I was getting older and I just need more exercise and less caloric intake. I stopped menstruating, my hair was falling out and I suffered from chronic fatigue. He still told me I just needed to eat less. I went from being a recreational athlete to not being able to leave my home after 5 pm. I finally diagnosed myself and demanded he test me for thyroid. He looked me in the eye and said you just need to eat less and exercise more, but if you want, I will test your thyroid. A week later he called to tell me I had an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto's Thyroditis and I needed to go on thyroid medication immediately. Had I not demanded a thyroid test my illness would have progressed on to cushings, grave disease and eventually cancer. My advice to anyone who wants to know the truth is "Doctor Richard Goldberg" is dangerous. If you get sick he is not going to help you. It is very likely you will continue to get sicker and sicker until you either find a doctor who cares or you become gravely ill. I did not have to suffer for 3 and a half years and get as bad as I did. My symptoms were not rare, they were casebook. I found them on the internet and diagnosed myself. But Goldberg just really isn't into being a good doctor. And let's face it, the sicker you get, the more you come in, the more money he makes. read more

Dr. Goldberg has been my primary care physician since I've moved to NYC 12 years ago. He's honest and upfront.

Dr. Goldberg really helped me figure out how to deal with and treat my physical symptoms of stress. He treated me as a whole person - taking the time to talk to me about what was going on in my life instead of prescribing a quick-fix medication. He is also very available compared to many other physicians I have seen in NYC who are either splitting time between offices or scheduling appointments two months out. Dr. Goldberg has been my doctor for almost 30 years. He has never missed a diagnosis and has a great manner. No he's not going to fawn over you as if he were a salesman at Barney's but he will talk to you in an adult respectful fashion. I have also had to contact him (or his partner) at least 3 times on weekends when I had asthma emergencies. They always get back to you quickly. The support staff are pretty terrible and when I mentioned this to Dr. Goldberg heI have said "You get what you pay for." If you can stand the support staff Goldberg is a gem. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Goldberg for over 15 years and in that time he has helped me numerous times. But most importantly he may have saved my life when he discovered a melanoma on my skin one day 10 years ago. He referred me to one of the finest melanoma specialist in NY and I had it removed before it moved into a stage where it would be hard to get rid of. Also, whatever complaint I have, be it numb hands when I wake up as an example, Dr. Goldberg usually right away knows why and is almost always right as to the reason, in this case he said it was my back. He was right as I had recently added a pillow and he figured out I was sleeping to straight up and it was affecting my spine and therefore the nerves in my hand. In his case, its because he will spend the right amount of time with his patient to give the right kind of care. I feel guilty sometimes taking up too much of his time, but I truly enjoy his consultations and humor. He more than makes up for the sometimes (but not always) less humored office staff. I'm a bit torn about Dr. Goldberg and the charges against him. Before I knew of this I felt he was the best doctor I had seen; He wasn't a pill pusher and gave me very simple instructions on how to improve some health issues. I feel doctors take money/bribes/gifts to sell drugs for companies all the time, while blood tests are standard without adverse side effects. In fact, without the last blood test he ordered for me I wouldnt have known I was dangerously close to being pre-diabetic and wouldn't have taken the steps to correct that. It's still shitty, but if he's allowed to practice again I'd likely see him as I have not found anyone better. I used dr. goldberg for many years (stopped because i changed jobs and found it hard to take a full day off for appointments). Extremely bright and knowledgeable, and he has always devoted lots of time to poor people, heroin addicts, AIdS patients, etc. Has also overcome some personal tragedies. The reviews below are accurate (the good with the bad) - my experience has always been good. He was the first to suggest a possible cause (that made sense to me) for a chronic problem I've had for MANY years. Came looking for Richard's info... it has been about 8 or so years since seeing him (so that's how good of an impression he made on me)... he had referred me to another top notch doctor (which I'm looking for now). Insurance carriers change often with work, etc. But he stands out as among the best I've seen in terms of his general aptitude. No one's perfect.
