The thing that ticks me off about this place is that they are riding on Dr. Leung's reputation, and Dr. Leung isn't even working here! He hasn't been for maybe five years!!!! I saw him once and he was wonderful, but I wasn't ready for cataract surgery right then. I went back a year or so later and was told he was on some sort of medical leave. Another year or two later I went in again, and I was told he is not returning. I am NOT impressed with the surgeon they have now, but that's another review. I think it is deceptive and dishonest that they continue to use his name and his reputation. How can they do that? read more

SCAM ALERT I came here because I needed glasses and the Cigna website said it was he closest place to my house that was covered. Horrible parking setup. I had to walk for days at 9 AM. The Optometrist lady that evaluated my eyes was nice but the guy that shows you frames wasn't helpful and had a very small selection of frames and only one option that fit my fat head. I asked him a couple times about pricing and he kept saying my insurance would cover it. Got to check out expecting a $15 bill for my copay and boom it's $128. Turns out the frames I got are expensive. Low and behold, my insurance didn't cover $270 worth of frames... Whatever I just need glasses. So I pay up. Then the bills start arriving... OPHTH MEDICAL KM&EVAL COMPRE NEW PT 1/ VST... $215 DETERMINATION REFRACTIVe STATE................................$89.00 I have no idea what any of that means. SO I called and said "Hey I have insurance. I already paid for the frames. Please don't mess with my credit over this." After the first call I got a new bill with an $89 deduction, but saying I still owe $194.54. I let it slide for a month ro so to see if they figured it out with the insurance. They didn't. SO I called again and this time they said they billed my health care not my viison plan. OK... Well I provided the only info I have from Cigna and I definitely have vision coverage. Not sure why this is so complicated. A couple days later I get a credit alert. The office reported me for greater than 30 days late payment. Great. Thanks for that. 2 weeks pass and now I have a new copy of the same bogus bill. They are now threatening to pass the debt to collectors unless I cough up $194. Today's bill says: "FINAL NOTICE: If we do not hear from you within 10 days this account will be turned over to a collection agency.." Nice. Guess I'm now their hostage and have to pay up or my credit gets screwed. I have gotten glasses 3x before at two other places and never had a problem. The situation is ongoing. I never met this Dr Leung dude. At this point this practice is running some kind of billing scam, trying to trick people into paying more than they are supposed too. Seem to be the standard MO for health care providers nowadays. Pretty sad. I don't know why the yelp reviews are so positive but I'm not going to spend the time reading them. If you need anything eyes, from annual exams to cataract surgery to LASIK and everything in between, run (don't walk) to the office of Dr. Leung. I have seen him and his excellent staff for about ten years and he recently did cataract surgery on both my eyes with amazingly results. I've worked many years in hospitals and I am PICKY. His skills are the highest, and bedside manner as well. His surgical team is sharp, friendly, and will take good care of you. I was impressed by his low rate of complications and high volume practice (so he's up to the minute on technique). Best of all, my eyes healed quickly with almost no discomfort and I now have the best vision of my life. I can drive with no glasses and the world looks brighter. To All Concerned, Dr Leung is THE BEST hands down. He performed the interlace Lasix procedure on my eyes and my vision is excellent!!! I had a mono vision done so I would not need reading glasses and he was very patient and after the third pair of contacts, I was pleased with "my view" and he performed the procedure so well that my vision is just, well FABULOUS! I wake up everyday in such appreciation for how well I can see and I don't need to mess with contacts or glasses anymore, it's wonderful.....He also had two technicians/nurses helping him during the procedure and it was totally painless. I was recommended to Dr. Leung by a family member who has a serious eye condition (needless to say their eyesight was saved). I did my homework and looked up his qualifications and experience, and it definitely was the type of Doctor I was looking for! I recently got my lasik eye surgery completed (right before the the first of 2018) and I could not be any happier! I got the PRK surgery (due to the scarring and level of correction) and it was exactly what I had hoped. Dr. Leung and his staff were extremely knowledgeable and were very thorough during the evaluation process. No one has ever "beaten" me in "the eyeglasses challenge". What is the eyeglass challenge? Simply try on my glasses and you'll realize your vision isn't as bad as mine. I have never met ANYONE with worse eyes that mine and I thought my eyes were hopeless and beyond LASIK, but I was proven wrong! How bad were my eyes? Well lets just say when the doctor opened up my eyes on the surgery table, he told his assistants "check out her astigmatism". My prescription was a -950 with high astigmatism. I had to get custom made contacts for my eyes because they were soo bad. I remember asking my optometrist if he thought I was a good candidate for LASIK and he himself was doubtful if I could even get it. Now I am typing this with 20/20 vision on my right eye, and 20/15 on my left eye. Its a freakin miracle. Dr. Richard Leung is a doctor at the San Diego Eye Center and he's a freakin ALL-STAR. I chose him because I knew that he did my friend who is almost as blind as I was so he must be good. I also chose him because I didn't want to go to those Laser Vision Centers that cranks out 20 LASIKs a day. I asked his staff about how many times they do these procedures and they said about maybe 6-7 on a busy day. When I heard that I was sold. Staff is great and friendly, his credentials are very impressive. He's not one of those doctors to take full spread ads on the San Diego Reader or who has commericals on the radio. First and foremost, hes a no frills, patient oriented doctor - and hes so good that he doesnt need to do any of that. I went in on Friday at 5PM and he did a quick follow up on Saturday at 11AM - where he came in on his day off to check on my eyes. Dr. Richard Leung is THE man. The overall impression you get with Dr. Leung is one of extreme competence and caring. He is very smart - something I always look for in a doctor! He is always upbeat, and always seems to care deeply about me as a patient every time I see him. He runs a VERY professional organization, each nurse and technician is excellent at what they do and they spend the time with you giving you not only the medical information that you need, but delivered in such a way that you understand the information imparted. Dr. Leung saw that my retina was about to detach, and while he is qualified to do this sort of operation himself, he recommended a specialist who only does a certain kind of retina repair. He specifically has the patient's best interest at heart. Years ago, when I had holes in my retina, Dr. Leung did the procedure in his office and for years I was fine. When my retina many years later needed reattachment - I was referred to Dr. Nick London for that. Following the reattachment surgery I eventually needed a cataract operation and Dr. Leung did that. Again, it was a very professional job by a very caring a professional person! I would never go anywhere else if I needed a cataract operation or any other procedure for my eye. It has been approximately 6 months since I got my PRK surgery with Dr. Leung. I wish I had done the surgery a lot sooner. I don't remember what my vision was prior to surgery but I used -6.0 contact lenses. Now my vision is 20/20 and I couldn't be happier. Dr. Leung was involved in the consultation and each follow up appointment. This was the main reason I chose him. His office is VERY busy. But I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes after my appointment time to be seen. Usually doctor's offices always run late with their appointments. I paid a one time fee which included the procedure and all the follow up visits. (I have another follow up with him in January). I used my FSA to help pay for the procedure. My insurance covered the costs for the post-procedure eye drops and I bought the Refresh preservative free tears at Costco. read more

This is my first yelp recommendation. Saw Dr. Leung after having had an unhappy consult with another ophthalmologist that was technically solid, but was entitled and rude. This was not the case with Dr. Leung. I saw Dr. Leung knowing that most ophthalmologists are consistently good at what they do. Dr. Leung took the time to explain to me and my wife (a retired ophthalmology nurse) why my left cataract would require a different lens than my right. This clinical analysis allowed me to avoid spending another 2-3 thousand dollars on an unnecessary lens. Dr. Leung's staff operate as peers to Dr. Leung as he seems to be hold them to a high standard and is willing to treat them as colleagues. I like it that Dr. Leung's personality did not get lost behind the serious task of eye care. He was genuine and very quick to understand questions. He gave practical examples of what he was trying to achieve, which made my decisions easy to make with a feeling of confidence that I knew what he was asking. The office setting was so much better than the first doc I saw. Timeliness was really appreciated. Dr. Leung and his staff respected my schedule by staying on schedule. First office left me waiting for forty minutes two times without any check ins to let me know why the wait. Extra costs were also handled professionally in Leung's office unlike my first consult. My results were 20/20 in the right eye. Will be doing the left eye in a couple of weeks. As an aging person, I really appreciate having Dr. Leung as my eye doctor. read more

My couple have visited this office for ten years, very good Doctors, Nurses and Staff, but until recently the receptionist was replaced, this is my first time in this eye laser office encountered such a very bad as her service personnel. I moved to San Diego about 10 months ago and have not been to an eye doctor for at least 4 years. I did a little shopping around and landed on Dr. Leung for some eye irritation that I most likely picked up while riding my motorcycle with the visor up. I was quickly scheduled for an appt. (day of calling) and dropped by to quickly get the issue taken care of. I ended up getting a few things addressed (like I said, I hadn't been to the eye doc in quite some time.) and got a vision test, as well as a stereoacuity test in addition to my eye exam for the inflammation I was experiencing. Dr. Leung... where to even begin. I was in San Diego for a business trip and caught this nasty eye infection which prevented me from even doing a simple task. I was totally immobile and not to mention being lost due to not knowing the area. I stumbled upon Dr. Leung through google and he was a god-sent. Not only was he knowledgeable and prompt with diagnosing and treatment plans. He went above and beyond to make sure that I am well. He gave me his personal line to make sure that we are in touch in case of emergency. And this infection got worse. He followed up and personally took his personal time to come to the office to meet with me and further diagnose. He then shepherded me to the ER!!!! I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Leung as an RN and I have to say both him and his staff members are extremely knowledgeable and create a personable environment for each of his patients. From a nursing standpoint, the cleanliness of his office was held at upmost standards. All of his instruments are run through an autoclave for proper sterilization and the equipment is cleaned throughouly between each patient visit. Dr. Leung is extremely detailed oriented in all of his procedures and he goes above and beyond every day to provide the highest quality of care for his patients. Your treatment as a patient is very important to him and you will not leave his office with any unanswered questions. Dr. Leung individualizes all of his careplans and treatment regimen by discussing options together and making a decission that best fits you. Besides knowing Dr. Leung as a coworker, I also saw him as a patient. I was in the process of being tested for Lasik eye surgery, when Dr. Leung noticed abnormal findings which put me at risk for post operation complications. Rather than proceeding with my Lasik surgery and getting a pay out from it, he explained to me his concern with my test results and we agreed to play it safe by retesting in 6 months to a year. I had 2 cataract surgeries with LRIs (corneal incisions) to correct astigmatism. Well, guess what? The astimatism is almost 100% gone! The cataract surgery not only instantly gave me clearer vision, but also enhanced my color vision! As a result of the two procedures performed together during 2 outpatient operations - I am able to read without glasses! Dr. Leung is one busy guy so you don't get to hang out with him for too long, but if you're looking for someone who has capable steady hands and knows what he's doing, he's great! He called me before the surgery to recommend we go with a different lens and procedure that actually reduced his fee. He said it was the better for my particular astimatism and since it's gone, the result proved him right. When was the last time a doctor called you out of the blue to say he was thinking about your situation and he's decided to take a reduced fee because th solution will work better for you? I will keep this brief. Dr. Leung is the ultimate eye doctor, excuse me, eye surgeon. I had Lasik surgery in 1998 and I still see FABULOUSLY! Yeay,,, 20/15... thanks Dr. Richard Leung. Before my surgery, he even called me at home the evening before my surgery to ask if I can any other questions. How nice was that? I still see him for my annual eye exam and he is still as professional as ever. What I like about him is that he is detailed in his exam and explains everything in detail. He does not "dumb up" the explanation nor does he speak in "doctor speak." If anyone is looking for a true surgeon, he is the one to call. Those cheesy and desperate quasi surgeons who advertise in the weekly publications probably need to because they are desperate for clients. Dr. Leung does not need to advertise because he gets his clients the old fashioned way, through word of month. He also performed Cataract surgery on my 71 yr old mom. My husband was first in line to get lasic surgery, performed by Dr. Leung, about 10 years ago. His vision went from 20/200 in one eye and 20/400 in the other to just about 20/20 overnight. We think Dr. Leung is the best! He and his staff are beyond phenomenal. My husband had cataract surgery with Dr. Leung, and I have just finished with the removal of cataracts. My vision in both eyes is better than 20/20. I have always worn glasses for being near sighted and having astigmatism. He removed the cataracts and recommended a Toric lens implant in both eyes. I never knew colors could be so bright! Driving at night is pleasurable without giant halos from oncoming lights. And, my 5th grade students swear I am bionic because I see everything! I have to give 5 stars to Dr. Leung and his staff at San Diego Eye and Laser. I had looked into and had consultations with a number of places in San Diego regarding Lasic surgery for my eyes, but I knew someone who had worked for him in the past and they told me Dr. Leung and his staff were very competent. With something as important as my eyes, I decided to take their word for it. I am glad I did. I went in on a Tuesday afternoon and was back to work on wednesday freaking out my coworkers with the bloody rings the suction cups from the surgery left on my eyes (this went away after a little while). The surgery was painless and a success. I now have better than 20/20 and I used to need my glasses to see the computer screen.
