We needed some advice and inspection to install a wall mounted toilet as our previous wall hung toilet leaked into the wall. Our house is undergoing restoration to dry and clean the leak so some of the drywall was removed and the previous toilet already removed by a previous plumber. The tech that came did absolutely nothing and ended up charging my wife $250, just for a pointless visit when all of the above should have been explained. All we needed was an estimate to install the wall hung toilet. They finally gave us an absolutely ridiculous estimate of $3500 to install the toilet. This is after we had framing done by someone else. So basically they charged $250 (took $25 off) for something that they could basically tell is over the phone, then give an absolutely ridiculous estimate. I'm sure they could find other ways to rip you off by doing nothing. Extremely unprofessional and poor communication. We've worked with other plumbers and they do not charge for basic estimates without doing any work. read more

I had a recent negative experience with Laughlin Plumbing, similar to other recent negative reviews: In brief: they charged me $240 per man per hour (2 men on the job = $480 / hr.) and they overbilled me by 1 hour. It was a 1.5 hr job (from job start to finish on). They billed me $1,200 for labor. Pros: They fixed my issue same-day. The plumbers were friendly and did great work. Cons: They didn't give me an accurate time they'd arrive. The company owner quoted $1,500, I said that seemed high, he said he was budgeting for 3 hours but it could come down if it took less time. I took him at his word and accepted. They started billing me from the time their workmen came onsite (not the time they started working: 30 min.) The actual job took 90 min. (I was onsite). They continued billing me for 30 min. after the workmen were finished and sitting in their truck. During the 90 min. job, 1 workman was onsite the whole time, the other was getting parts for about 45 min. and came back Once I received the invoice, I spoke with the owner that this was high and inaccurate, he shouted at me and said that I accepted the estimate. I asked for a billing correction based on the above, he refused but took off $50 to match his estimate. If you hire them, get clear ahead of time: How many men will be on your job? How much they charge per plumber per hour? When do they start / stop charging? Beware.... read more

Rip off !!! I am calling Toto tomorrow to share what a bait and switch. $475 to fix a leaky in wall Toto toilet. I called them as they were listed on Toto website. I sent a video to Deon and was told parts maybe $30 but $250 labor and $225 for a part on sale on Amazon for $150. Worse part is tech Jesse left and I can't tell if they want me to pay for a 2nd visit to replace another part. read more

We had a broken pipe and poor connection with waste leak, underneath our newly purchase home- as is status. Dion, Richards son and also a master plumber, took care of it the next day with a brand new pipe. Very reasonable, very courteous, and just one of the nicest people you'd meet. Although our inspection report also stated a need for a new water pressure regulator, he inspected that and concluded that everything was in order just the way it was- another $400 saved, and a testament to the company's honesty. (It's *very* easy to just go with an inspectors official report; harder and takes more integrity to turn down additional work.) Would recommend the Laughlin's every time. read more

This review is months overdue. The ignitor on our Noritz tankless water heater was out, so I called a nearby plumbing company on Noritz's "certified" technician list in our area for repair. The plumber who came out tried to pull the wool over my eyes by stating that he had to take the water heater off of the premises to clean & repair it & could return it to me in 2 days for a large fee. My family owns a reputable plumbing business in Orange County & said that there is absolutely no reason that the water heater could not be repaired on the premises. I went back to Noritz's certified repair list & found Richard Laughlin & even though he was not located in my immediate area & it was the end of the working day, Richard arranged for one of his plumbers to drive to my home 16 miles away & repair it. The friendly and skilled plumber repaired & cleaned the water heater within minutes for a reasonable price & voila! We were back in business with hot water. THIS company gives the service one would expect from a "certified technician" and then some! Richard even followed up with a phone call the next day to make sure that the repair had been handled well. This type of customer service from L.A. plumbing businesses is hard to come by these days! Unbelievable!!! I could not be happier with Laughlin Plumbing. I called them because literally every sink in my apartment was hopelessly clogged. I was having a big party at my apartment in just two hours when I discovered that none of my sinks were draining. I called Laughlin and asked if they could send someone right away. In less than an hour a plumber arrived. He was friendly and overall a really cool guy who quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed it in less than 20 minutes! I called Laughlin Plumbing because the shower in our master bath would not turn off immediately (the dial would just keep turning and eventually the water would stop dripping, usually a 20 minute process). They came out the next day to take a look, the technician opened the fixture to look at the gears, and we discovered they were completely corroded. The tech took a picture of the part, as there was no manufacturer listed (we bought the house as a short sale, so no information was left for us). They took several weeks to acutally locate the part (again, based solely on a picture), which was finally found in the UK. The part took about a week to get here, but well worth the wait. We had actually contemplated replacing everything as we orinigally could not find the part. The only reason I gave them 4 stars was that it took 1, or 2, weeks and 2 phone calls from me to get a response after the initial visit, letting me know that they were still searching for the part. After that, Richard has been very communicative through every step of this process. I really think they went above the call of duty to find this part, I feel that many companies just take the easiest route these days. Also, they are the 3rd company I've had out for this problem, and the first to actually figure out the problem. The other 2 told me there was nothing wrong with the shower...fortunately for them, I can't remember there names (through our home warranty company). I have used them for years and the guys are the nicest guys you've ever met. However, I have recently decided to move on after discovering that a chronic leak that Richard had been called about numerous times had not been addressed properly and I am now dealing with mold growth. In addition I am being informed by a contractor that my water heater closet plumbing had been installed in a grossly negligent manner and is unsafe. This was NOT installed by Richard's people but they have certainly worked on these pipes many times and never mentioned how unsafe it was in there. They will address a specific issue and provide very temporary solutions. And Richard's fees are not cheap. read more

A great company and and even better group of guys. I called them because I had a gas leak in my backyard. They were very prompt in getting here as it was an emergency. They repiped my pool equipment and BBQ lines like brand new. The communication was excellent and the job they did was way far and beyond...they even painted the piping green so that it wouldn't be noticeable along the ivy lined wall (something that i really appreciate and didn't even expect). I have had them to my house for other projects big and small and, again, they have always arrived on time and acting in a professional manner. After a few horrible experiences with Richard Laughlin's plumbing company, I will never use his services again - and would warn anyone else against it! I asked him to come to my house to diagnose a problem with my toilet. He didn't say anything about a fee for this, so I assumed it was a free estimate. Once he got to my house he completely took apart my toilet (without asking me!!), then charged me a service fee out of nowhere - having never informed me there would be a charge for the diagnosis. I am appalled by how unprofessional his business practices are. He had multiple opportunities to give me estimates for costs, but failed to do so. I didn't know about any of the service charges until I received a bill in the mail, with exorbitant costs for everything. read more

I'm very happy with the service and support I've received from Richard Laughlin Plumbing. Three years ago the igniter on my Noritz water heater went bad so I contacted them. They replaced the igniter and performed a full service. Just recently I noticed steam coming out of the vents of the same water heater. Deon came out for an inspection and told me the main coil had a leak and needed to be replaced. The unit was 11 years old but the factory warranty was good for 10 years. Deon told me that he would call and speak with Noritz and see if they can make an exception and provide a replacement under warranty even though the warranty had expired. Otherwise I would be forced to buy a brand new unit and spend thousands. He was able to get Noritz to approve the replacement under warranty and I was only charged for the installation. When I received my bill in the mail, I even had a discount applied! These guys go above and beyond and I have been recommending them to all my friends and family. read more

After smelling gas, the Gas Co came out and discovered a big leak and shot our gas off and locked it! We had to call a plumber to discover where since it wasn't readily apparent. Richard is an arrogant man who communicates poorly . Although his team did a fine job installing a tankless water heater , he was vague about the warrantee and directions on maintaining it. I just called them last week for a bid on a sprinkler plumbing leak and he had the nerve to send me a $150.00 bill for doing nothing but looking at the leak! He did not say upfront I would be charged for an estimate. And so far his 'estimates' have remained at $2500.00 for whatever project. I'm not paying that nor will I be using him again. On this last disappointing encounter, it took them over 2 months to follow up on a simple repair, even though they billed me upfront just to look at the job. After repeatedly chasing these guys down, and you can only ever reach their answering service, they finally completed the job and billed me again for material and labor.
