Dr. Daniel did a lot of pricy and questionable testing and put me on 41 pills a day of either supplements or prescription medicine. I developed a concerning medical condition I'd never had before that made me feel sicker than ever, requiring me to stop eating many foods, and made me so fatigued, all I could do was lie on the couch most days for months. It was miserable. I finally got fed up with her after the second time she raised her prices significantly during the pandemic and fired her. I had spent tens of thousands of dollars on her appointments, testing and supplements. I immediately went off of everything she had prescribed and felt so much better within two weeks. My health has been just fine since I stopped following her advice 18 months ago. She may have a lot of five-star Yelp reviews but read them closely - few mention good medical outcomes from working with Dr. Daniel. That's because she gives her patients a discount on supplements in exchange for Yelp reviews which they write at the beginning of their treatment before they have any outcomes. This practice is unethical and should be illegal. Note to Dr. Daniel: When you attempt to rebut my review, be sure not to violate HIPAA.

Working with her had an incredibly positive effect on my health and well-being and I feel so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with her, and get back to optimal health. However, there have been recent changes to the practice that feel de-humanizing. Today, in the midst of a pandemic, I tried to log in to ask a question or make a short appointment, and was told my account was "inactive" as I had not had an appointment in a year. I called to see if I could ask Dr. Daniel, a doctor I really trust, a question or make an appointment, and Jason/Jonathan called me to tell me that I was no longer a patient, and the practice was not accepting new patients. I told him I'd been a patient since 2015, and asked him how I could make an appointment, or ask Dr. Daniel a question, and he said I would need to go online and read about my options, that who knows if I could be seen again, but that I might be a "level 2" or "level 3. " When I asked him what that meant, he said I should go online. As a longtime patient, a mother, and a scientist, I felt hurt and disrespected by this de-humanizing interaction. It seemed that the rug had been swept out from under my feet - I was booted from the practice because I felt well and hadn't had an appointment in a year. These new policies, and the interaction with Jason/Jonathan were the exact opposite of my previous experience with Dr. Daniels (warm, humanizing, caring). He left me with no other option than to seek other care.

I spent the next 24 hours obsessively reading everything I could about both because we live in an age where information is abundant - with equal measure of disinformation. My strategy was to familiarize myself with what the MRI detected, what the prognosis is, and how to get back to good health. I wanted to make sure I did my part to learn the anatomical and medical terminology so that I could get the most out of my time with the endocrinologist, the expert, Dr. Pitroda. Did I mention how terrified I was to go to this appointment? I was. The male nurse who took my blood pressure was polite and soft spoken which helped. I didn't like my first bp reading so I asked him to take it again. Telling you, I was terrified. Dr Pitroda came into the room and immediately let me know she read my chart. She asked a couple of questions that lead to an organic conversation. She confirmed some things I was worried about. Then she asked if she could biopsy my thyroid. I said yes because I was already there. I also knew if I had to go back, I would fail to show up, this is super important and I am going to keep saying this in 2024 in the hope we as a society can handle this better. I HAVE DIAGNOSED PTSD AND ANXIETY. I am a domestic abuse survivor. Any kind of appointment that pokes and prods or I have to go into that claustrophobic MRI tube terrifies me. I have flashback night terrors until the appointment day. Sometimes the nightmares/night terrors continue days after the appointment leaving me exhausted day after day. Considering this, I said yes, do it same day. I didn't want to create a situation where I would endure unnecessary stress waiting for the appointment. The doctor turned on peaceful music and left the room while her male nurse brought in the biopsy tray. Then she got to work. It wasn't comfortable, but she explained what was going to happen so I knew what to expect. I appreciate her calm, kind demeanor because again, I was terrified. Her male nurse was also really calm and kind which helped me. I once again am making my goal this year to leave when I feel unsafe. Speak up when I feel mistreated. Be kinder to myself knowing I am navigating a world that is extra challenging for me. People who can be a little kinder, a little more patient, give a little grace - those are the people I want to partner with on my medical team. Dr Pitroda is all of those things. Beware of this dangerously unethical endocrinologist at Kaiser's San Rafael location. She put me…read morethrough an unnecessary and protracted evaluation for Neuroendocrine tumors in 2014-15, which no other doctor thinking clearly would have done. She even failed to diagnose diabetes, in spite of labs indicating I met diagnostic criterion and while suffering a multitude of classic diabetes symptoms. The evaluation was due to an elevated tumor marker called Pancreatic Polypeptide, however, it was elevated due to Dr. Pitroda not ordering it as a fasting test. Taking this test w/out fasting is equivalent to having your blood sugar tested after eating a case of donuts. The elevation was dramatic, more so than normal, further suggesting Diabetes. I later told Pitroda I learned it was supposed to be a fasting test from an intake coordinator at UCSF, she then advised fasting from protein and exercise abstinence prior to the test - she was adamant about her instructions. The result was still elevated. I went on to receive hundreds of years worth of radiation with 5 or so CT scans, all with contrast, including an Octreoscan - far more radiation than the allowable amount of exposure deemed 'safe' for people who work around radiation are permitted in a one year period and I received in approx 6 months. All scans were negative, yet she persevered saying how I could have a 'silent neuroendocrine tumor' hiding out in my body. Another doctor eventually repeated the test with others he ordered requiring total fasting, the result was perfectly normal. He also concurred the pancreatic polypeptide was to be a total, not partial, fasting test. Guess what Arpita Pitroda did then? She made a fraudulent entry in my medical record to conceal that she had provided erroneous test prep instructions, writing the test became normal due to 'acid suppression.' I've been on rx acid suppression since approximately 2005. When I questioned her about her entry she became very uncomfortable and moved to abruptly end the phone call, nervously and quickly saying she'd 'look into it.' I never heard from her again. During the course, Dr. Pitroda consulted with her colleague on the east coast. She didn't disclose she failed to advise fasting for the culprit test, nor my May 2014 A1C of 6.5, which according to Kaiser's own website is diagnostic of Diabetes. Her colleague suggested menopause or Autonomic Neuropathy. He suggested several lab tests and recording heart rate variability. We knew I was not in menopause but my symptoms were consistent with Autonomic Neuropathy and POTS. She never recorded heart rate variability, only ran one of the suggested blood tests and didn't send for immediate evaluation for autonomic nervous system problems which I had inquired about a million times over the years but was always rebuffed. I was finally formally diagnosed with POTS but it took over a year from when this evaluation began. In further reviewing my medical record, I found Pitroda omitted many important symptoms and didn't record things she told me, like once when she listened to my heart and claimed she heard mitral regurgitation. She also didn't note right arm swelling or tremor, which she herself pointed out and asked me about. She let my hypertensive spikes rage out of control for months on end and dangerously heighten while I was prescribed multiple medications with severe interaction ratings, carrying stern warnings of a HIGH probability of death. She didn't address uncontrolled diabetes, which is unfathomable for an endocrinologist, especially when it explained MANY of my symptoms and she nuked the hell out of me, causing my family and I significant and unjustified worry and stress. Moral of the story: Do not trust Doctors, especially this one -- do your homework and don't take no for an answer.

Coding errors are common so that your insurance charges you when they should not have. You have to deal with Dr. Buxton's office and the insurance company. It is hard to say who is least interested, Dr. Buxton's office or the insurance company in helping you solve the problem. A headache. 2. He does NOT take Medicare. You have to pay up front, then try to get Medicare to reimburse you. Another headache. 3. You can talk with him ONLY during appointments. No email, no phone calls are allowed. You can send a message through the office staff, they will ask him (sometimes), and get back to you, often with a reply that does NOT answer your question. If you have a problem that throws your medication off, you cannot get answers, and it takes, sometimes months, to get an appointment in person, while you are left wondering what to do. Another headache. 4. If he is unable to help you, instead of suggesting another physician, he will just refuse to see you again. Another headache. 5. If his treatments don't work, he will blame you. Another headache. 6. He seems to listen to you during appointments, but, I got his records pertaining to me, and they show he did not listen. Disappointing. Another headache. 7. His records reflect his worry about liability, so they are inaccurate. For example, he stated he told me to get a second opinion. Nope; never happened. Get your records so you can try to correct them. Another headache. 8. Perhaps because he isn't connected with any medical group, he isn't able to see the whole picture of your health so he can suggest another way to help you. Because of his the quality of his care is very compromised. You are on your own. Another headache.
