Apple fritter review #37 Glaze: not too much glaze, and crunchy enough. Four stars Outside: while the outer edges are made crunchy by the glaze, the rest of it is soggy. Two stars Inside: too wet, no wonder it's soggy. Might be undercooked. Two stars Filling: at least this one has actual apple pieces, some places are lacking on their filling. I'm normally not a big fan of cake donuts but my sister had brought some home from here. Oh man it was so good. Most cake donuts I've tried were super heavy and so thick. Theirs was so soft and light and fluffy and delicious. There was a little crunch to which I really liked and you can tell it was fresh. Highly recommend this place. The donut selection here is only ok and the inside is neat, however, it is very old, not the cleanest and the walls could stand a new coat of paint. The window blinds are at an angle and dirty and look like they're never attended to. I always look at the little things and its very run down inside. We got here at 10:30am on a weekday and it was obvious we were too late for any type of selection. Grabbed a few donuts for work and tried them in the car. A bit 'doughy' and sweet..I took them to work for some coworkers to try and they didn't think much of them either. We have some great donut shops in the area, But I was on my way to Buck Family Automotive and wanted to pick up some donuts as a present for the technicians and Richard's was the closest to my driving route so I dropped on in. They have a beautiful assortment of donuts, my personal favorites are their maples, their jelly-filled, and their glazed. Not too sweet and overpowering, but they still satisfy that sweet tooth. Came here early on mother's day, i think around 8am, to get a dozen donuts. My first time stopping by and there were lots to choose from. I bought a variety, but my favorite was the maple old fashioned. Their maple has good flavor so pretty much everything I had with maple glaze on it was yummy. The chocolate they use was also tasty. It had more cocoa or chocolate flavor than other places I've been too, which made it slightly bitter(think dark chocolate) and delicious. A line formed soon after I arrived so I'm glad I was there early. Everything was fresh and delicious. This will definitely be my go to donut shop since I just moved to Carmichael and have been trying to get acquainted with all the small businesses around me. The only odd thing was they dont use a machine to fill their custard/filled donuts. They slice them in half like a hamburger and put the custard in the middle. Most places I've been to use a machine to inject the filling right inside so it was different. Still delicious, but I think if they injected it they could fit more custard inside. Four stars because the donuts were delicious but I wasn't blown away by anything or anyone in particular. read more

Favorite place for donuts! Make sure to get there early to get the freshest selection, kind of silly to give them a negative review about not having fresh donuts if you don't get there early... Anyways, they're super nice and will sometimes give a free extra donut if you go there regularly and will spot you if you are short on change. It can be frustrating that they don't take card at all, but it's understandable if you understand how much it costs to have those machines and the charges per swipe, especially now with the new chipped cards. This place disappoints. They don't take card, the worst! They were rude and impatient when my kids were having a hard time deciding. My daughter found an ant on the donut tray that I wanted a donut off that tray but it was yanked out for quarantine before I could pick. The apple fritter was burnt before glazed.
