Vegan Donuts - only Friday thru Sunday
    Bridget W.

One of the best kept secrets around Sacramento is this little donut shop on the corner of Fair Oaks Blvd and San Juan Ave in Carmichael that has a wide selection of undercover vegan donuts on the weekends (Friday to Sunday). They don't label the vegan donuts in fear of their loyal omni customers freaking out, so you're just going to have to go early and ask for them. They keep the vegan ones on separate racks and will point them out to you, as well as hand you the secret vegan menu. The apple fritter and boston creme are to die for. If they have them, I would highly suggest you get those. The maple bar is also good, as are the jelly-filled. Ok, who am I kidding, ALL these vegan donuts are worth your time. It's like Ronald's Donuts in Vegas opened a second location - the quality is that similar. I like surprising my coworkers with a dozen from time to time and watch them rave about how good they are not knowing they are vegan. The only improvement this shop can make in my eyes would be to have vegan breakfast sandwich options. Either way, when the sugar craving strikes, I'll be back.

Family Donuts is a must whenever I'm in the area. And I still get my go-to's: the vegan glazed twists and custard-filled maple bars. The best! And I love their new donut boxes, so cute! The service is always great as well.

I discovered this place driving by every morning and decided to try one morning. I am now a regular! The donuts are so soft and very addictive! I finally tried one of the sandwiches which was Tuna! The sourdough bread was completely amazing and tasted freshly baked and super soft. Donuts 10/10 sandy10/10!! I highly recommend. The staff is so attentive and very helpful.

The fresh donuts are amazing! What we appreciate is they use REAL sugar not junk substitutes. You can actually taste the difference. Service is always friendly. We try to come early for the best selection! Highly recommend if you're looking for the real deal in pastries!

Great place for donuts and coffee. My family liked the selection and the donuts are fresh. The bearclaw was my favorite and my children liked the strawberry lemonade. Everyone in the place were friendly and helped us out right away.

Ask the Community - Family Donuts & Deli

Anybody know of a place that has gluten free AND vegan donuts? Or to start, just gluten free?

Babes Ice Cream and Donuts on J Street has gluten free and vegan stuff. I think Pushkins has donuts too, but I'm not 100% sure.

    What food here is vegan?

They have vegan donuts Friday-Sunday! They're in a separate shelf but there's tons of them!

What days are vegan options available?

    Friday - Sunday

    Do they have warm donuts?

If you come early in the morning.

Do they have any gluten free donuts?

I'm pretty sure they do not have gluten free donuts.

Is there Nut Free Vegan Donuts?

I would just call and ask. I believe so since none are topped with nuts but I don’t really know about the ingredients.

Do they have vegan donut holes?

They did a couple of Saturday's ago when I was there. Delish btw

When I walked in, the lady at the counter greeted me in the most unique way possible: by staring at me in silence until I made it to the register. Eventually, I got a menu and ordered the Turkey Chipotle and Chicken Pesto Club. I have to give credit where it's due--the sandwiches were delicious. The Chicken Pesto Club was packed with flavor, the marinated chicken was juicy, and the bacon tied everything together perfectly. The Turkey Chipotle was so good I went back for the second half later. That's when I got an unexpected extra ingredient: a long hair in my sandwich. Nothing kills a craving faster than that. As someone who works in the food industry, that's a pretty big miss and instantly ruined my appetite. Cookie? Mac salad? Straight to the trash. The food was honestly great, but finding a hair in my sandwich definitely took some shine off the "best sandwiches in Carmichael" title.

I got the village veggie, with no cream cheese, but thinking back.. that would probably even make the sandwich more epic, it hit all the right spots. It was flavorful and delivered very well. - my buddy got some kind of chicken sandwich that he said was amazing as well. As someone who is bipolar and been homeless before, I always pass along my leftovers to one of the homeless that hangs out in the park. I came up to him today with a cup of tea, and he asked if I could get him a cup of coffee. I said sure, it's 2 dollars that I can spend on someone in a similar situation that I have been in myself before. I came out with a cup of coffee for him, he was standing by the bar down the street. He requested milk and sugar. I didn't want to touch the cup he was holding so I said okay. The girl at the register was happy to give me an extra cup for milk and sugar. I filled it and was cornered when I was exiting. She was fuming, flustered saying that refills aren't free. How dare I take free refills from the shop before. I apologetically expressed I can pay for a second cup of coffee. She didn't back down. She verbally berated me in front of EVERYONE and it was an awful experience. I've been homeless myself but I've never looked it. This is unacceptable behavior and very ableist. I will still come by, but I wanted to warn others that this place is very discriminatory against the disabled homeless population and I do not want to be a part of this kind of energy.

The restaurant sign is hard to miss, and they have a good amount of parking available. The inside is decked out in old memorabilia, posters, and racing signage and it has an old school feel. You can order to-go, like I did, at the counter or get a table and enjoy a seated experience. The people working here are friendly and when I let them know it was my first time they were happy to answer questions. I ended up ordering the Pepper Steak sandwich, the Italian Cold Cuts sandwich, a pepperoni pizza, and a side of mac salad. The pizza is a simple one, but had plenty of cheese and is perfect if you're craving it. The medium size they offer is perfect for sharing and could easily feed 2-3 people on its own. The pepper steak sandwich is one of the items they're known for and after taking a couple bites I could see why. The mixture of cooked meat, onion, and peppers along with the fresh bread, tomatoes and seasoning is so flavorful. The sauce soaks into the bread to make each bite delicious. The Italian Cold Cut was very unique. I had heard it's a favorite, but I didn't expect something as out of the ordinary. There's laters of meat and cheese on the bread l, and then there is a sweet pickle relish (like you'd put on a hotdog) and then plenty of chopped tomato and onion and sub sauce. The sweetness of the relish through me off, but works with the sandwich. Something interesting about both sandwiches is that they didn't have sandwich toppings like lettuce that wouldn't rewarm well. The chopped tomatoes and onion are great cold, but if you decide to reheat your sandwich they're still great. I don't know if this was the plan but it worked out well. The portion sizes on everything were also fair for the price, and the food was filling. I'm excited to visit again to explore more of the menu, including their meatball sub, pastrami, and cannoli.
