My wife Cindy and I are snowbirds that regularly travel to Yuma from Minnesota. We made the absolute horrible mistake of taking our truck to "Dicks" because we had brake issues on our drive down. She took it in and asked for the brakes to be replaced. As best I can tell, "Dick" charged us for used rotors that I'm fairly positive aren't even the correct size that he probably pulled off some junker that they have behind the shop, and attempted to pass them off as new. It all goes downhill from there but the bottom line, they attempted to take advantage of my wife and her kindness because we're old and from out of state. When I finally had time to look at the truck the next day (I'm old) I realized what they had done. Absolute horrible business, corrupt business practices, would not and will not recommend to anyone who winters in Yuma or anyone else for that matter. I'll happily take my business elsewhere to someone with moral standards and a sound business ethic. I hope you read this....and then you rot. read more

POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS STAY AWAY. Consider yourself warned. Went in to have exhaust manifolds replaced on 80s Bronco. Owner suggested a different shop to hook up pipes as they do not do muffler work. I took it to most reputable muffler shop in Yuma. A week later after muffler shop work, exhaust was extremely loud. I took it back to muffler shop and they could not find any fault in their work. I returned to Richard's and was told an exhaust port plug fell off from the manifold. Owner held on to my Bronco for over 3 weeks claiming he could not find a replacement plug. I asked him to purchase the $100 manifold at his cost and remove plug from new one. The owner refused responsibility for loose plug as he says his mechanic claims to have tightened it down. He also says that he will not guarantee his work because another shop worked on exhaust after his work!!!??? WTF! The other shop did not touch his work, only installed the pipes from the rear of manifolds. I've already spent $800 on Power steering work plus $325 on exhaust work. This guy is willing to throw away future business and reputation over fixing his screw up? That's fine, won't even suggest this place to change out a tire.They are NAPA certified, I will be letting NAPA corporate know about him not honoring his work as well. Picture is of manifold with missing plug. As you can see, either his mechanic is a liar and didn't tighten it or used an impact gun and stripped the threads. I arrived in the the Foothills of Yuma from Phoenix with my alternator light on...car was about to die. The Pioneer Lube express recommended Richard's. The owner, Bill greeted me and told me I would have to leave the car with him that it would be ready the next day. I explained that I was from Phoenix and could not just leave the car, that I needed it the same day. He looked at me as he thought about it. Then all of a sudden he asked for the car key, pulled inside the shop. Gave an honest quote, called the parts house and in less than two hours later I was on the road! These guys are GREAT! I own a Honda and didn't want to go to the dealership and pay an arm and a leg for service. So this worked for me. Don't expect to be wined and dined here. Took my car in for an antenna repair which only required a reverse drill bit to remove. It took over a day later from my appointment to hear back, and that's only after I called to ask what the status was. I show up and the entire antenna base and mast was removed and cut into pieces rendering it unusable. The replaced part didn't even fit my car and I was told to come in to see what I wanted to do. I show up and the antenna base is wobbly and doesn't fit the hole in the car body. I said I wanted it removed and the old antenna base, but was told that it had been thrown away already. I had to spend nearly $300 to purchase a new antenna base and mast, and while doing the installation myself noticed that they left several clips and portions of cut up cable behind (meaning they didn't even remove the antenna base wiring properly) and my antenna cord sub-assembly (the cord connecting the antenna to the radio) is completely GONE. There was absolutely no need to remove this cable, which even a novice would know. In taking my radio apart, I see now where they broke several clips holding the radio face into the dash and did not replace all of the screws taken out to remove the radio face. I am now going to have to replace this part as well. So now I'm out another $130 to fix what should have been a 15 minute repair in the first place. Oh, and I was told the work they did (the work that's now cost me about $400) would be $110. This was the mechanic literally looking up with a cigarette in his mouth and saying "ohhhh, it will be umm around $110." Though, I was told a cash discount would make this job be only $60! That sounds more like a shady deal to me; no cash discount is ever nearly a 50% discount. The work here is shady and when I confronted the mechanic he said that "99% customers would have wanted this" and he immediately threw a temper when I tried to explain to him that he should have asked me before going beyond the work I had originally brought my truck in for. I see several other reviews where work was poorly or unsuccessfully done and the customer was charged and left with the problem unfixed or in worse condition and unfortunately my case is not an isolated incident. I also asked for the rubber molding on my camper shell to be replaced during this appointment and was told OK. When I got the call to come down and see the antenna, I was told that they don't do camper shell molding because last time they scratched the customer's truck and it ended up as a $900 repair. His excuse for saying he would replace the molding was that he didn't understand what I meant originally. I'm not shocked at all if his story is true... read more

Ridiculously high prices. Took my car in for an oil change and to have the wheels checked out. I left with a $300 bill!!! They charged me $194 for 1.5 hours of labor. For years, I've waited to bring my car to either San Diego or Phoenix for repairs, because I was afraid to try a local shop in Yuma. When the AC quit blowing cold air suddenly, I knew it needed a recharge. I contemplated doing this myself, but my husband talked me into taking it in. I researched a few local shops, and finally decided upon Richard's. Fully expecting a guy to see me (a petite woman driving a white BMW) and think he could scam me, I walked in with a bit of skepticism. They did NOT attempt to scam me, or tell me anything else was wrong with my car. They simply recharged the AC as I asked. All staff members were professional and I could tell as I eavesdropped on conversations that they were very knowledgeable about cars. (To the point where I even felt a bit nostalgic as I flashed back to my childhood - watching my Dad tinker away in his garage and talk with buddies about the science behind the technology) I only paid $75 and the work was done in under 15 minutes...I did not have an appointment, just walked in. I walked away feeling like that entire experience could not have gone any better, and I'm ashamed that I've been driving three hours because I was afraid to deal with a small-town mechanic shop. Thanks for the prompt and professional service, and the reasonable prices. Joe the manager had my leaky transmission oil line fixed (pretty easy) even though he had a week backlog. Outstanding!

I was on the way to the sand dunes when our truck blew a radiator hose. Had to get towed to town and every shop we called wouldn't get us in until the next day. Richard got us in as soon as the truck was dropped off the tow truck and within 30 minutes got us back on the road. Great to deal with and put us in front of everyone else since we were from out of town and would have no where to stay for the night. Hopefully I never have a breakdown again near Yuma but if I do I know where I'm going to go. Thanks guys!! read more

Richard's is a joke! I was told by good friends this was a great place!!! I made an appointment 5 days before I brought my car in. So I get to Richard's right on time. The guy sitting behind the desk says what do you need. I tell him I had an appointment at this time. He rudely tells me he can't even look at my car for another hour and a half. I ask why I was told to come in at an appointed time, when that time wasn't available. He gets up and walks gruffly towards me. He stopped and said sarcastically "have a nice day." I asked what his intentions had been as he approached me, he said "nothing," but his demeanor said otherwise. In fact my dog in my arms started shaking from fear as he approached. The place looked filthy and disorganized inside ~ a far cry from the professional look on the outside. I would never take any vehicle to this establishment. He happily took my Prius in, drove it around couldn't figure out problem and now wants to be paid $60 claiming he worked an hour on it. No other shop in Yuma does this. He did not tell me he doesn't know a thing about hybrids upfront...other shops tell me upfront. I am horrified at the intent to deceive and the arrogance to demand payment. I'm going to attempt to get my car back today which he's holding hostage for the $60 he's trying to charge for the "hour" he worked driving it around. Spread the word. This is an update from my previous post. Info from the mechanic (Napa approved) that is fixing my truck. As stated in previous review, Richards stated that it was a clogged oil pump that caused the problem. My truck has been in the shop since my return and has cost an additional $800+ dollars. It was discovered that Richards never dropped the oil pan to get to the clogged pump because there was a major oil leak from the pan, and the mechanic could tell it was not dropped. I also never received an itemized bill just a total dollar amount and then a description of what was done but not how much each repair cost to get to total cost. This shop has taken total advantage of my situation with cost, time and repairs that were not done or completed. This is a very unethical business. read more
