I'm renting a townhouse in Ewa Beach. It's cute, but it looked a little dingy and dirty because the walls were scuffed from previous tenants. The landlord didn't want to paint it before I moved in but gave me permission to paint if if I wanted to. I knew that I definitely did not know how to paint so I contacted a few professional painters to give me quotes. Out of all the painters, Richard was the first one to show up and give me a quote. He came to the house the same day I contacted him and even waited for me because I was running late (like 30 minutes late). I felt bad for being so late but he assured me that it was fine. He came inside with one of his crew members, walked through the house and gave me a quote on the spot. He was very good at explaining the different Sheens of paint he would use and the way he and his crew would paint the interior of the town home. He answered all my questions and assured me the job would be done by Friday that week if I were to choose him. After he left that day, I took a few days to get other quotes from other painters. All of them were about $400-$500 more than Richard. Well I ended up choosing Richard and his crew for the job because of the competitive price, the good reviews on yelp, and because he was so prompt in getting over to the house to give me my quote!!! He was also the only painter that could get the job done the soonest which was good for me because I wanted the house painted before I started moving my household goods in. Richard and his crew got to work that very next day. They were very professional and cleaned up after themselves everyday they were in the townhome. They ended up getting the job done by Wednesday that week instead of Friday. Two days sooner than what he estimated during the time of the quote!!!! The town home looked so fresh and clean after his paint job! I was so happy. He made the place I will be living in for the next 2 + years look so pretty and new! I recommend Richard and his crew for all of your painting needs. I'm going to be calling him again to install some ceiling fans too. Overall we had a very bad experience with Richard. My mistake was, I paid Richard before everything got done. I thought everything should have been OK since I saw he fixed my walls pretty well. He finished painting on 15th, When I went to the house on Aug 16th, I noticed he missed painting the ceiling and the back wall of one of the closets. In my living room one of the curtain rod supporting brackets was pulled almost all the way out of the wall and bent. So I took the pictures to him and he called me very soon and told me he would fix it the next day. I was still happy even I found the problems, but not a big deal, as long as he was willing to fix it. So I called him the next day(16th) to check what time he would be there. Then he told me he wouldn't be on this island and would be back on Sunday. He told me Monday would be ok and would let me know what time on Monday. So I called him on Monday(20th), he said he wasn't available. At this point, I still had faith in him and still believed him. So we made an appointment for 8:30-9am on Thursday the 23rd, and I texted him to confirm on Wednesday night. He never replied to me. The next morning I got up early to get ready to meet him, I texted him again before I left the house and he texted me back. He told me he would not be able to make it because of weather alerts of hurricane that could impact the island. I was surprised that he hadn't bothered to tell me about his change of plans until I called him and texted him. Then my husband talked to him on the phone and he told my husband he could finish the job on Monday at 10 am. On Monday the same thing happened. He couldn't make it again and he never let me know he changed his mind until I called him. Then he told me he could make it on Tuesday the 28th at noon. The evening of the 27th, I texted him to confirm. He replied to me YES. So I arrived at the house at 12 noon and waited for him until 12:40. I didn't see him, so I texted him and called him a few times and he never replied. Then I used another phone to call. This time he picked up and after he recognized my voice, he hung up right way. To be fair, Richard did a very good job with the parts that were completed before I paid him. But once I paid him, he became unreliable and never finished the job. Richard, you should just be an honest person. You are not a kid, no need to play such kind of game over and over. In order to have a good reputation and business, you should learn how to be an honest man. Don't be a liar. You wasted over ten days of my time. Very pleased with the work they did! Richard was quick to respond when I reached out via yelp and came out the next day to provide a quote. When this was received a few days later it was thorough which is appreciated and they were able to get to work almost immediately. Because my husband is deployed, it was a great help to me that they assisted in moving my larger furniture to the center of each room. The paint job was also done very well and included all rooms except the interior of my closets, interior doors, and kitchen cabinets. If I had one criticism, it would be that they did get a bit of paint on my shower and light fixtures that was easy to clean but nonetheless happened. I got my floors done a few weeks later and Richard was kind enough to come back out and do some touch ups afterward (for a small fee) from where furniture/appliances had damaged the paint. Right off the bat, we told Richard what we wanted because the last guy who tried to paint our small condo did a terrible job. He sounded confident and like he could deliver what we wanted. He told us when he'll start and that he was also in between jobs --totally understandable. We already had our barriers on the floor throughout the condo. But he said he'll put up his own as well. However, that was not done. When we came to check the work after a few days, there were small paint spots on the vinyl floor due to the tears in the barrier. We let it go and didn't make a big deal out of it. The job wasn't completed on time as promised, but it was fine because we were very particular and didn't want to rush him. When we came for the final walk through, the trim paint job came out good, but there were some small areas on the doors that weren't completely painted. He said it was the shadow. C'mon --we've been nice, but not stupid and blind. It was right before the holidays so he said he'll come back in January to do the touch ups. Ok, fine. The estimate was $2,200 (for less than 600 sq ft). We gave him $2,000. He said to give him the $200 when he's completely done in January. He held on to the keys. Come January, no word from him. Tried to reach him many times and left multiple messages. We got nothing. Finally, using a different number to call him, he picked up. He said he wasn't on island. At this point, we weren't gonna wait around for him to complete the job. We just wanted our keys back. He could've just told us if he didn't want to finish it. Just be honest. When we started to do the touch ups ourselves, we found more unpainted areas. Called him and he said he'll come and take a look. He didn't show up. We called several times and left messages again. And of course, he's not gonna pick up anymore. It's very hard to find people who are going to stand by their work and are professionals. He may sound all great and promising at first, but please be aware. $2,000 for his awesome paint job and communication..he basically stole it from us. We actually thought of hiring him for our house later, but after this...smh. 4 stars for his paint job on the trim ONLY 0 stars for communication I wouldn't really look on yelp for contractors. We did not use Richard for his painting services. Instead, Richard helped us by sending one of his skilled workers to complete a drywall job (tape, mud, sand) for us. We were shocked with how fast he responded to our request for a quote. His quote was extremely competitive and made the others we received look like a JOKE! First of all, I try to be honest. Richard was the first one to give me a quote (others came after a few days delay). He was very professional. Straight to the point. Offered advice on colors, and types of paint to use. Patched, and smoothed areas other painters might have just painted over. Went above and beyond. Had a skilful crew. Hired Richard to paint my house in preparation for sale and can't say enough good things about him as owner or about his crew. Richard is easy to work with, he's very professional, and his prices are competitive, which is why we hired him in the first place. But I have to say once the work started, we felt we got a REALLY good deal as his crew was hands down the best I've ever had working on a house I've owned in the 40 years since I bought my first home in Honolulu. These guys are friendly, easy to have around, and genuinely nice people. I had no problem leaving my house open to go on errands while they were working. Richard was always available if the crew bumped up against a problem and his guys take zero shortcuts even when they hit an unexpected complication. They completed the work timely (a couple of rain delays but the total job time was exactly what Richard had estimated) and cleaned up after themselves every day.
