The folks at Kalakoa Painting are amazing! I have been doing a LOT of renovation over a 3 year period, and had previously used a different company who charged a ridiculous amount, spent very little time on prepping, with barely any sanding. After seeing the amazing work Kalakoa did for my neighbor's home, and witnessing how thoroughly they prepped, it was a no brainer to hire them. For me, they painted the inside of a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, architecturally intricate home with vaulted ceilings, and I was SO IMPRESSED!!! There was lots of drywall repair and termite damage that needed TLC, and all the fixes just look incredible now. Can't even tell there were huge dings. Deeply disappointed with this company. Good price, but not worth it. Problems with reliability, following through with commitments, very poor communication and rude behavior. They don't come when they say they will. Told me my small job would take 5 days. It took total 13! When I was left waiting all day --the owner got defensive and told me he was doing me a favor. The painter ignored my specific instructions to use eggshell finish in one room and used semi gloss on the walls. I will have to pay someone else to fix this job. Needing my house painted, I got a few estimates. Attitude, thoughtfulness and thoroughness were additional considerations in choosing this contractor. An A+ rating and no complaints with the BBB were some things I looked at too. I was not disappointed. The last time I had our house painted was way back in 2001 - so it was time to protect our home (and our investment!). I took my time to pick and choose a contractor (I am a notorious shopper!), so I turned to YELP for recommendations. The crew showed up on time and was courteous - but the real proof of their capabilities was when they took on the actual job of renovating the house. Yes - it also included carpentry work on my wooden picket fence, which also needed a new coat of paint. In the end - these guys did an incredible job! We are happily returning customers, we had our home painted in the past and Kalakoa was the only company we considered for this new project to prep, stain and clear coat some weathered hardwood eaves in addition to some roof cleaning of our silicon coated roof. Kamaka, the owner, was very responsive and a pleasure to work with in scheduling and adjusting the scope to our needs. Some technical hurdles prolonged the job slightly but we were included in the discussion on how to solve these and the job never waivered from the original estimate. The paint application was thorough and even; they caulked and smoothed out surfaces; where the paint colors changed, the lines at the color changes were clean and crisp; they paid just as much attention to craftsmanship at high-up, less visible areas, such as roof eaves, as they did to eye-level areas. It was time to paint our house. I called four companies and received three on-site visits and proposals. All of them were fairly priced. However, Kamaka (owner of the company) seemed most interested in my needs and schedule. In our agreement he agreed to do exactly what I wanted. However, he did MUCH more. The 3-man crew was on time and respectful of my neighbors and not making noise. They were also courteous to me and my wife, and they put up with my many questions. More than half of the first day was completed before they even open a pail of paint! They scraped and sanded and primed and caulked well beyond any expectation that I had. They even used oil based primer on the gutters and down spouts. When I asked if I could use their ladder to repair a leak in my rain gutter they fixed it at no extra charge (and even supplied the material). The weather was not very cooperative (windy) so they rolled on the paint in some areas. Near the end of the project I walked about my house (2-story, 4 bedrooms, 3 baths) numerous times and marveled at the quality of their work. I was in awe, and I don't "awe" easily. My 22-year-old house - literally - looked brand new. Kalakoa Painting is NOT your usual company. Their superior work, friendly and courteous crew and fair pricing make them an exceptional contractor.
