On the way for a weekend vacation from Miami, our front brake pads started screeching. We made it to Key West and asked around for repair shops but got quoted crazy estimates just to change the pads. Found Richard's Tune Up on Facebook and Reddit and just showed up before they closed on Friday. Jay was super nice and said it was no problem, we would have it fixed before we had to leave on Monday. Drove down to Ket West from St Augustine. Half way down my car started to vibrate hard. Made it down and got a recommendation to contact Richard's. Called me an hour after I dropped it off and they found that a piece of the tire tread was missing. Must have hit something on 95 roadway. HORRIBLE! Had an appointment and didn't have a ride until 915. tried to drop off Sunday evening but no drop off service. I was told if it wasn't there at 8 am he wouldn't work on it. first I heard. I told him I had an appointment that I've had for 2 weeks. he said it doesn't matter. make a new one. He was so rude!!!!!!! Never again. only got a one star because you have to rate! Just to warn everyone out there. I was told this place was honest and would do what they could to help me fix my car but sadly that was not the case. I was quoted for 50-150 dollars to fix a transmission cooler LINE. When my car was done I ended up with a new transmission cooler, the same broken lines and now a bill for 250.28. I was told by Less (the owner) and Jay (the mechanic) that my cooler was "rusted and leaking" and needed to be replaced when infact it is not rusted or broken and I got my piece back to prove it! They spoke profanities at my husband and I when we told them the car was not fixed for the problem it came in for. Sadly these men are crooks. They took advantage of me and my husband especially at a time like this.....I can't believe someone would do this.... do not take you car here or they will probably do the same to you read more

I have used Richard's a number of times over the past few years. Most of the time there was no problem with their repairs. They did what they said they would do , quickly and at a very reasonable price . Once they did have a problem getting a brake switch adjusted properly. I had to take it back to them three times before they got it right. But they did get it right and there was no charge what so ever for their efforts. There are issues with cars that aren't black and white and all you can ask for with a mechanic is keep at it until you get it right. That's what they did and I will remain a customer as long as they are the owners. read more

0 stars! Horrible experience. Called the shop multiple times on Monday to speak with the shop about replacing a alternator. After explaining the situation of living in Miami and needing the car fixed within a day, Jay confirmed that the shop would be able to accommodate fixing the car Tuesday if I bought it in first thing in the morning because having it towed Monday night was not ideal for the shop. I was able to give the car & keys to the shop at 9:30am Tuesday. Was then told they'd call me shortly with an estimate. 4 HOURS WENT BY before I called to ask if everything was going smooth. It was then that the shop informed me THEY HADN'T EVEN LOOKED AT THE CAR AND WOULD NOT FINISH UNTIL THE NEXT DAY! THEN DENIED EVER TELLING ME THEY COULD DO IT WITHIN A DAY!!! I ended up having to spend money on towing AGAIN!!! To have the car moved to Shifting Gears Autoshop who FIXED MY CAR IN 3 HOURS!!!! 2 year warranty included! And roadside assistance!!! Skip Richard! I have to say they fixed my car nice and fast but when I got my car back it had a started making strange sounds driving it home. When I took back in they said the sounds had nothing to do with what they fixed. I've asked a few other people about this and seems "very ironic".... perhaps "too ironic"? read more

We were in Key West last week and on 3/14/16 I took my 2007 Envoy Denali to Richard's because it was making a rubbing sound in the front left wheel. I had the bearings replaced just a few days prior in Columbus, Ohio where I live and thought that might be the problem. The Pros at Richard's checked my left front and found a dust shield part was loose and snapped it back using a screwdriver, and while they inspected my brakes they found the back brake pads were very bad. They replaced them, and with the quick fix on the front left I had my car back the same day and it ran perfectly back to Ohio the following weekend. Richard's did not overcharge or rake me over the coals with charges. I give them utmost respect for honesty and their great work ethic. Thank you! Steve read more

Was charged over $800 to fix my cars ac, said I needed a new compressor and 2 other new parts. Took it in 4 times after they "fixed" it because the ac kept going out. Just had a friend take a look at my car and found out that they charged me for new parts and not one of them is new. It's all the same parts I brought it to them with. These people are thieves and crooks will never go back. Looks like I'm going to have to take them to claims court as I have all the receipts and proof that they ripped me off. read more

Disappointed; they fixed the crack in my coolant piping, but offered me no solution to the car's inability to drive; I picked up the car, and stalled 2x in front of their shop; they "think" it might be a damaged engine from a lack of coolant, but that's a finger in the wind; go somewhere else read more

Called them yesterday to see if they could redo the wiring on the subwoofer in my classic Cadillac. The mechanic told me to bring it up at 8am for him to take a look. After waking up early and driving the car over to the shop, they told me they don't work on stereos and that he didn't understand what I wanted on the phone. So his default was to have me wake up early and waste my morning. I'm just glad I needed a simple superficial repair as it was obvious they had no idea what they were doing. read more
