    Half chicken
    Beth s.

Richie's Huli BBQ is unreal. Holy shit--this is hands down the best chicken we've ever had. It was perfectly cooked, insanely moist, and packed with flavor. Every bite was delicious. On top of that, the prices are super reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. You get amazing food without feeling ripped off, which is rare these days. If you're anywhere near this place, do yourself a favor and stop in. We'll definitely be back!

Since we had eaten so much fish during our trip we were looking for some good bbq chicken. (You are kind of reminded every day since there are so many chickens around LOL). So in looking through Yelp we saw Richie's. Since it is a food truck we were not sure exactly where it was. After reviewing the most recent reviews we saw it was right down the street where we were staying. It was in the area by Haole Girl Island Sweets. Everyone mentioned getting there early as the close once they sellout. They usually have the Huli Huli Chicken on Friday and Saturday but check to see. Quite a few people were already seated at the picnic table when we arrived around 11:30am. We were greeted right away and ordered the half chicken with macaroni salad and a roll. We stood by the grill area looking at all the good food being prepared. Smelled like heaven. When we got our food we were amazed at how much was there. Large portions. They serve it with a pineapple white sauce that is so tasty. The macaroni salad was good as well. Also some white rice on the side. Best chicken we have had in a while. Thanks to Richie! Check you out next time in town. We saw a red food truck so turned into the parking lot. You could smell the bbq cooking.

Double the love. We had to come back and eat here again before leaving the island. On the weekends they have daily specials and we tried the teriyaki beef this time around. Service is swift and we happily grabbed a nearby picnic table and dug in. Their chicken is delicious. I'm not sure how they make it so juicy and flavorful, but I'd be happy to be adopted by them to find out, hah! My daughter even said "their chicken is amazing!" And I have to agree! See my previous review to read more about the chicken! The teriyaki beef was pull apart tender and flavored with a sweet but smoky sauce. It comes on a small bed of raw cabbage which adds a nice crunch and freshness. We opted to get the plate meal this time which comes with a scoop of rice and mac salad. The sides are solid but the meat here is legendary. They're only open four days a week apparently and if I lived on the island I'd be lining up for lunch each time they fired up the grill. Hands down a can't miss spot on Kauai - highly recommend!

Driving through Kapa'a and seen this food truck off to a side parking lot and the smell automatically caught our attention. We were greeted by a nice lady taking orders at the window and decided to go with the Chicken plate and a rib plate. They were out of greens which was a bummer but we just got rice and mac salad for the sides which was okay. The flavor was amazing! The bbq was soooo good, not that it needed it but it was a good taste on the side. Mac salad was good. Ribs were tender, flavorful and juicy. Chicken had a good char taste too and the skin was nicely crisped. You can't beat the price for the amount of food you get, especially with all the businesses around the area that are pricey. Definitely a good business to support!

Kapaa, Kauai Outdoor barbecue chicken ready to eat now? Yes, I am so there! Driving through town, we saw the smoke coming off the barbecue grill and we had to stop in anticipation of delicious barbecue chicken. And we weren't disappointed. We knew right away just from the weight of the plate, that it was gonna be a big piece of chicken and sides. Got our huli 1/2 chicken plate with Mac salad, rice and homemade lilikoi bbq sauce. Too bad they don't do a half chicken and barbecue rib combo plate... Chicken was juicy hot and delicious. Very happy we stopped on the side of the road for this quick takeout meal.

A must try when visiting the island, 5/5 for me! My husband saw this place on the side of the road and he had to get it. Wow wow wow.. huge portions and great prices! The ribs were good, but the chicken, the breast was sooo juicy! We ordered the ribs and chicken, and it was more than enough for a family of 4. The owners are super friendly and humble. I hope this review does wonders and the owners become super famous. YOU MUST STOP BY, it's deeeeelicious.

If you love dry burgers, then DO NOT come here!! Because this Wagyu burger will taste so tender. Your grandma could bite this without her veneers!

They're open on the weekends from 10am until they run out. The guy said that the previous day they ran out around 2pm. The address is different than what's on yelp. The location is not in Lihue. They're in Kapa'a with a yellow truck attached. You can really taste the smoke on the meat especially with the chicken. The sauces it comes with are really unique and compliments well. We couldn't finish all our food. Even after taking the chicken back home and eating it days later, the chicken was tender. My only thought is I wish they had combo plates where you can try both the chicken and ribs rather than getting only one or the other.

This 5/5 review is strictly for the chicken because WOW it was phenomenal. My husband and I both didn't really care for the potato macaroni salad or the pineapple sauce that comes with the chicken but the chicken itself?! So juicy, amazing flavor, already craving it again! I will say this place was hard to find - when I search it on the map, it took us to a completely different location and the truck wasn't there and we were so sad. There's no address on the Yelp page, but after some digging, I found it located next to Island Crave's Kaua'i. Would highly recommend the chicken, I'm sure the ribs are bomb too, but you can skip the full plate and just do the a la carte!

    Korean Fried chicken. Very good!
    Hayley M.

Waited until Wednesday to go here and get the Huli BBQ Chicken and ribs. Unfortunately they only have that on Friday and Saturdays. Disappointing. So, we ordered the Korean fried chicken and one serving was huge! It was delicious and so good! Enjoyed the Mac salad also! Will try and make it back on Friday for the BBQ. Servers were very nice too! Great place!

Let me start off by saying Richie is a super cool dude born and raised right here on Kauai. Had the pleasure of briefly chatting with him while eating. I had dinner in a few hours but I had to stop and get a half chicken. As you'll find things are pricey on Kauai but this is one of the hidden gems that is well worth it. The half chicken was huge and full of flavor. Not to mention the pineapple white sauce was like no other! He's only open on select days and until sell out so make sure you give it a try!!

There were two other Hawaiian bbq type places we tried to go to and both were unexpectedly closed so we ended up here and were so disappointed. I had the saltiest burger I've ever tasted and could not finish it. My husband got the surf and turf and said it lacked flavor. We should have known better as we walked in the door but our deep hunger won the battle and we stayed. And got what we deserved. Sorry. Again, come for some local music and drinks - leave the food.

It's definitely a local favorite due to its generous portions, authentic Hawaiian cuisine and friendly service. We ordered the fried chicken and poke combo with wonton chips and the ahi katsu (my absolute fav). The ahi was fried to perfection- crispy on the outside while rare and tender on the inside. The sauce on the katsu was absolutely fire!!! So good! Macaroni salad was creamy and delicious. And the rice was perfect. Obviously, you cannot visit Hawaii without having some of their poke- always fresh and delightfully tasty. The marinade was savory and packed with flavor.

Its right off a main road and you cannot miss it. Parking lot was a bit small, but there was plenty of parking. AMBIANCE: When I went there was plenty of seating. A bit dead, but I also did go pretty early. There were a bunch of decor of older American pop culture like Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, etc. But also Hawaiian themed decor (obviously). SERVICE: You gotta walk up to the front to order. I was approached almost immediately as soon as I walked up to the menu on the screen. The girl working was super friendly and welcoming. I made my order and she gave me a pager for when my food was ready. FOOD: I ordered the chili pepper chicken, which was recommended from the girl at the counter. My friend ordered the ahi katsu. The chili pepper chicken was good! It was crispy and extremely flavorful. It was slightly too salty for my taste, but luckily the rice does help balance it out. Some of the crispness was sacrificed for the sauce, but it was overall still pretty crispy. I loved that they used boneless chicken thigh. I was expecting bones or lots of breading but it actually had a perfect ratio. I wasn't much a fan of the mac salad. It was like a mix of mac and potato salad, but more like a potato salad. I'm not big on potato salad, so that makes sense. My friend's ahi katsu was alright in my opinion. The sauce that's on it was good and enjoyed all the flavors. The tuna was just a bit overcooked to my liking, but idk how else one would make a katsu without overlooking it too much. Maybe bread the fish and freeze it before frying? Idk man, I'm not a chef lol but the tuna would definitely be better if it was less cooked. OVERALL: Honestly, I would still come here again. I still enjoyed the meal and the service was pretty quick. Both items were both worth trying. All the flavors were there and the little things I didn't like were just personal preferences. Its a great place to pick up a lunch plate and enjoy it at the beach.
