I started seeing Dr. Veech a few years ago. He does not have good bedside manor, but I didn't feel like I was getting bad care. I had my annual physical with him for a few years. I always felt like the support staff would rather be playing on their phone than assisting me, and I would have a very long wait while I was in the office to see him. It would also take a significantly amount of work to get refills called it. I felt like I was bothering the staff to do their jobs. Then, two years ago I had an injury and made a 'first available' appointment, and was seen by Dr. Miller. Well, she was FANTASTIC! She took the time to listen to me and really was far superior to Dr. Veech, so I called to have my annual switched over to Dr. Miller. I had to wait 6 months to get an appointment, but it was worth it. I have been going to her for the last year and a half, and then I get a letter in the mail that she is leaving the practice. Shocking how little they care about their patients. Most recently, I had an issue with scheduling an appointment and Dr. Veech's nurse and front desk had no desire to help accommodate. They were both extremely rude and showed no compassion. I have also had issues in the past with them twice failing to return urgent phone calls for 3-5 days and forgetting to order blood tests prior to when I showed up for an appointment. I have had friends express similar horror stories going to this practice.... They are extremely disorganized. I am looking for a new primary care doctor. I've been a patient of Dr. Maughan for about 25 years. He listens to you and doesn't ignore your thoughts and concerns. He always makes me smile and I feel good about myself. Nurse Jackie is an angel from heaven and she knows me like a book. Tell me when I need to straighten up or hug when I'm not feeling well . My sanity is a lot smoother with RFP. read more

I have been a patient of Richmond Family Practice for 18 years now. When my original doctor left the practice, I started seeing Dr. Veech and was more than pleased. He is a fantastic doctor with a great bedside manner. With that said, I have found the staff at the practice to be lacking. I have had a billing issue for 11 months now that they will not help me resolve. This was due to a coding error on their part. I have called many times trying to get this resolved. I have spent hours on the phone with Anthem and HCA and have received clear instruction on how to remedy my issue. When calling Richmond Family Practice with clear instructions on how to resolve, I've been met with a negative attitude and even incompetence on how to refile the claim. (i.e. 'What do you want me to do about this?') Each time, the call has ended with them saying that they will research and call back. Not once have I received a return phone call from them. This causes me to pursue again, only to start over at square one with a repeated indifferent response from the staff. Since then, this bill has gone into collections and I have spent hours of my own free time trying to resolve this. I have read other negative reviews and there is often a response to these reviews from the Richmond Family Practice apologizing and asking the reviewer to contact the office manager, Sherry Powers. I have called this number and have actually spoken to her. She told me that she'd look into my issue and call back the following day. That was 2 months ago and I have yet to receive a return call from her. I've called her three times since, never receiving a return call. At this point, it is my belief that the practice is just hoping that I give up and go away. I think if the tables were turned and there was a $400 mistake affecting their pocket books, they would not be so blasé. With everything said, I am highly disappointed in Richmond Family Practice. I have even tried to contact to call the office asking to speak to Dr. Veech himself only to get stonewalled by the staff. While Dr. Veech is a terrific doctor, I would recommend avoiding the practice for the reasons mentioned above. If they treat a long-term patient like myself this way, I can't imagine how they'd treat a newer patient if an issue were to arise. read more

I've been going here for six years, and it's time to move on. It doesn't matter how early or late I arrive, I'll be waiting over two hours. At my last appointment, the wait was blamed on me, because I had arrived 10 minutes late; however, the previous visit I had arrived 45 minutes early only to wait two hours. Most people don't have time to waste an entire morning in a waiting room for what works out to be a 15-minute consultation. The robocalls and peremptory reception, along with poorly updated summaries (conditions treated years ago that are traumatic to remember continue to be listed on mine), are my experience at Richmond Family Practice, as well. The last time I replied to a robocall hounding me to make an appointment, I was told one wouldn't be available for three months, but would I like to see one of their staff with appalling reviews on HealthGrades? No thanks. I will say the location is convenient, if the facilities are outdated and the service disappointing. read more

He also is good helping find medications covered by insurance. His nurse is quick to answer my emails over the Patient Portal as well. I've recommended him to my husband, sister, and brother-in-law. Doctors are highly praised for their good works. This one, Amy Miller, works just 4 days a week and charges over $500 for a visit to obtain a skin cream. As someone who served their country worker's compensation covers this visit. Unfortunately, the fabulous billing department refuses to submit the claim which means I have to assume the cost. The staff and doctors do not care about your well-being. They are there for the money and nothing more. read more

An acquaintance referred me to Dr. Miller several years ago. At the time, she was booked, so I scheduled with Dr. Veech. He was....fine. Not much for bedside manner and kept pushing me to get bloodwork even though I was uninsured and on a very tight budget and just there for a yearly checkup (yes, I know it's always good to do, but I just couldn't afford that and didn't feel like I should have to mention that several times). Getting refills on basic medications like birth control was a huge pain. I should have been given a YEAR of refills, but instead was only given 3 months, so every 3 months, I would have to call and be given the run around to get more. At one point, Dr. Veech was out of town and his nurse avoided my phone calls for almost 2 weeks before I finally showed up at the office and said I wasn't leaving until she got another doctor to fill out the prescription. I work at a vet hospital and our clients would FREAK if we treated a DOG this way. Most recently, I scheduled another appointment (probably the 3rd time I've ever scheduled an appointment). Dr. Miller had an opening (I assume a cancellation) for the next day when I checked the online scheduler. I would have scheduled elsewhere, but I needed to be seen asap and there was an opening. I have severe back issues that have resulted in permanent nerve damage in my left leg and foot, but was seeing progressing numbness in the other foot and in my hands. All I wanted was a referral to a neurosurgeon, so I scheduled the appointment. I left work the following morning to get to my appointment. While I was in the lobby, I noticed I had a missed call from about an hour before (while I was working) from the doctor's office, but nothing was said on the message other than to call the office. A staff member called me back a minute later and pulled me into a side hallway. She said that Dr. Miller wasn't taking new patients and that the online scheduler made a mistake in letting me book the appointment. Okay, not a big deal. All I need is a referral and anyone can do that. I would be fine with seeing her this one time with the understanding that I wouldn't be able to schedule with her again. I'd also be fine with seeing a different doctor. Instead, I was told that Dr. Miller would NOT see me and that no one else had time to "work me in" (for my scheduled appointment). This also means that this time slot was allotted FOR ME and Dr. Miller chose to let a patient with progressing neurologic symptoms walk out of the door rather than to take 5 minutes to talk to me and write down the name of a neurosurgeon. The staff member offered to set up another appointment for me. I told her not to bother because I would never be coming back to that office. I drove to the Patient First in Carytown. I was seen in under 5 minutes by a doctor that actually listened to me and gave me the referral that I needed. I had my surgical workup for my last back surgery there as well and I've actually been very impressed with the care there! Don't waste your time at RFP. read more

Very disappointed in the service! They have a portal for supposed easy access and fast response that does not work and sends you on a wild goose chase to change password. Might be ok for booking a regular check up months in advance but have an issue need a response find an office more equipped and that actually cares about your health and wellbeing. My insurance plan had assigned Dr. Veech when my plan had changed. I needed a primary care visit to get a simple referral for a specialist, that I regularly go to, for a yearly diagnostic. The experience was disturbingly uncomfortable to say the least. First, his office doesn't have you fill out medical history forms beforehand. Instead, he has an assistant ask you most questions before he sees you. Only to ask you all them again, as though he doesn't understand what you already said. Worse, he has a random guy in corner, perhaps a student, typing away on a laptop the entire time he is obsessing over your extended family's medical history. During this time, he barely looks at you. It's like he can barely figure out the computer and has to have you repeat info over and over. It took forever. Why is the doctor and the student both doing so much typing during the appointment?? It was a small room and crowded. It was surreal. Even though I am in excellent health with excellent blood work, he seemed to ignore that and wanted to interrogate me over my dead parents' medical history. He's aggressive, condescending and doesn't seem to enjoy his work. Horrible experience! I requested my insurance assign me another provider that day. It took a month before I could see another doctor. Fortunately, it was like night and day. I had zero problem getting the referral with the other doctor, or catching the doctor up on my family's medical history. She also genuinely listened to me and wasn't typing constantly during the appointment. Unlike Dr. Veech, the other doctor clearly enjoys working with patients. Just because your insurance assigns him, you don't need to use him. Run! Staff was friendly though, and the check-out person didn't seem surprised I walked out. She even offered me a manager's number to complain to without me even telling her my concerns. No doubt it wasn't the first time. read more

Dr. George T. Maughan. Has been my personal care physician since 1988. He and his nurse Jackie has done a great job assisting, consulting, and quarterbacking all of my medical necessities. Bedside manner has been courteous, and professional all the time. He even knows about my personal hobbies and life's interests, so I'm just not a name to him. My ride or die guy. read more

I saw Dr. Veech who has ZERO personality and I'm just perplexed why he decided to be in a field where you have to work with patients everyday. I came to this appointment strictly for refills on 3 medications. One for migraines, my anti anxiety drug, and retinoid cream for my face. He acted like I was bothering him the whole time to do the refills. The best part was the nice receptionist at the desk who I instructed to fax the new prescription to a specific pharmacy in Nova. She said no problem and I got my prescription where I needed it to go without issue. I did notice my other two only have 3 refills each which makes no sense at all to me. Why not a year? I definitely would not go back especially given the bill I received for new patient visit. Now I dont have great insurance but the charge was over 300 dollars. That's ridiculous. So my insurance covered 100 or so leaving me with 200.00 to pay out of pocket. :( He also said to schedule a check up with bloodwork but now that I got that bill to pay no way am I going to do that. Front office staff could not be worse! My recent prescription required a prior-authorization to be covered by my insurance. My pharmacy sent them the necessary form immediately. It took over two weeks, at least seven phone calls from me (involving endless holds and unbelievable attitude from the staff), and countless reminders from the pharmacy for them to submit the form to my insurance company. They then submitted a completely blank form. Called AGAIN, they resubmitted a partially completed form - this time without the necessary supporting documentation. They then ignored the insurance company's request for the missing supporting documentation. Meaning I'm going on three weeks without my medication. The employees processing this (very basic!) paperwork are clearly either the stupidest or laziest people alive. Either way, I'll be looking for a different doctor. read more

Avoid this place at all cost. I saw Dr. Veech twice. The first visit he coded and billed my appointment wrongly and it has been a headache for 6 months trying to figure it out. He did not listen to me during my second visit, and does not have a good bedside manner AT ALL. Just like the other reviews advise...go literally anywhere else for better care. Wow! Normally when you go into a doctor's office they write you a script and get you out as fast as they can. Dr. Miller was completely different from any other doctor experience I have had. She talked to me for an hour and went into detail about how the body works. As a biology major I really appreciate that. A lot of doctors make me feel like I'm asking too many questions about details and brush me off or give one word answers. It's hard to find a doctor that is A - knowledgeable and B - willing to share their knowledge. Dr. Miller was extremely informative and I highly recommend her. Front desk staff was also friendly and nice which is always a plus :) read more

I am a long time patient of Dr. Maughan's and couldn't be happier. I feel as if I am getting Consierge care without having to pay for membership. Dr. Maughan is responsive and doesn't rush through my appointments with him. His nurses are caring and treat you, as he does, as a person not a number. I'm a big fan! read more

I am not sure where to start. Sandra Steele put me on medication that made me feel like a zombie and caused awful weight gain, when I told her how it was effecting me, she pushed my concerns aside and doubled my dosage. One time she even wrote me the wrong prescription- it wasn't until I was on the way to the pharmacy until I noticed. When I called back, she said I had to schedule another appointment (so another copay) to get my correct medication. Unreal. Then I went to Dr. Maughan. Positive at first, until I was lectured every visit for 10 minutes on my weight gain. Mind you I had been prescribed 3 medications by that practice that are known for weight gain- even while I was dieting and exercising. When I stressed this point, he told me "it's all about willpower." Excuse me? Not to mention in my file I have recorded eating disorders, so I couldn't believe I was being talked down to about the weight gain I had because of the medication I was wrongfully put on. Last week was the last straw, I had a new diagnosis and a new medication I needed. He prescribed me a name brand drug immediately. With my insurance (which thankfully is really great-I've never had an issue before) it somehow cost 700 dollars. I found an assistance copay card, only brought it down to 600. I called the office at 11am and left a message for the nurse stating I needed a new medication. (This medication was for fibromyalgia- I am in constant pain while dealing with this.) I get a call back at 3:58pm that I just missed with a voicemail stating look on the website for a copay card. Really? I call back at 4:00pm on the dot and their phones were shut off stating they were closed. Their website and automated phone service state they take calls until 4:30pm. I need this medication. There is an option to talk to an emergency person on call. I tell them the situation and they said they will contact the office to hopefully contact me. I received no call. The next morning at 9:30am I called and left yet another message for the nurse, explaining I really need this new prescription today. My only guess on him being so adamant on the name brand drug is maybe he gets a kick back? Regardless, I never got a call. I am cancelling all my appointments and looking for a new practice. It's a shame after 4 years coming here I have time and time again been let down. The only positive thing I will say is a receptionist I always see (Ayanna I believe?) Is incredibly kind and understanding. As well as the nurse I have seen. Otherwise, I suggest staying clear. read more

This is the worst family practice when it comes to getting an appointment less than 2 weeks to a month out. Dr. Miller is okay but she is only there part-time. They are over booked and under-staffed. Even the wait time to speak to a receptionist is at least 15 minutes. They say they will have a nurse call you back when you say you need an earlier appointment, but if one calls back it might be the next day. The place is run very inefficiently. They always say they are looking for new patients but it seems that they cannot accommodate the ones they already have. I would recommend going elsewhere for treatment if you have any ailment that cannot wait to be treated for at least 2 weeks to a month. read more

I want to say I have been a patient of Dr. Amy Miller and I can not say enough wonderful things about her. She has amazing bedside manner she cares for her patience she takes time to listen to you. I want to say thank you, Dr. Miller has saved my life yes literally many times she is an expert in her field. She also has a wonderful nurse that will call you back after conferring with Dr. Miller. After her being my Doctor for 6 yrs I had to move out of town but she will still be my Dr. Traveling to see Dr. Miller is worth my time. I have been going to this practice for a few years now and each and every time I walk into the practice I regret it. The front desk staff is absolutely horrendous. I usually wait for about 45 minutes to an hour to even be seen by a doctor and when I get into the office I wait for another 30 minutes. Dr. Maughan is a good doctor and the only reason I have gone back. However, calling to get my prescription filled the correct way is almost impossible. When I call to speak to someone they put me on hold for 10 minutes and the "nurse" I am supposed to be speaking with is usually the woman from the front desk. When i go in to pick up my prescription it is always written wrong and when I questioned why this always happens the lady at the front proceeded to say "that's not my fault" and continued talking to her other friend behind the desk. I called back again and they told me I had to make another appointment when Dr. Maughan told me I wouldn't need an appointment. She said the doctor needed to see me and when I questioned her she said "all I can do is make an appointment do you want one or not" then proceeded to hang up on me. I called a new office and switched doctors immediately because it was the last straw. I would never go back as this was the worst experience I've ever had with any doctor in my life. read more

I went here twice for a physical. I only went back because I had a credit on the account. (They had discarded my records after the first appointment so I was charged as a new patient and did not get the credit on the account.) At both visits the wait was long (2 hours until I first saw a doctor during the 2nd appointment, I had another appointment so I kept track.) The long wait gave me a chance to notice that the office is rundown and a bit dirty. Some of the staff was rude (just reception and the doctor). The doctor was rushed and not informative once I did see her. And billing was arbitrary, e.g. I was billed for preventative things that should have been paid by insurance. (Billing will never call you back so don't bother trying to correct anything.) It is just a weird, disheveled experience from start to finish. read more
