My daughter suffered emotional abuse from her teachers, coming home frequently scared to go to school because her teachers yell, hold her wrists in a forceful manner when she makes mistakes. Because they are not certified or given adequate training (only every three months according to director with non accredited trainers) "teachers" are not skilled or knowledgeable in teaching practices that are developmentally appropriate and in alignment with Texas standards. They are unaware on how to utilize redirection, positive reinforcement and engagement tools and resources that support the whole child. As a certified experienced educator and multilingual program director myself I am distraught I let my child go to this daycare for over a year and advise other to stay away from an institution that does not have the abilities to teach young children. There are other multicultural and multilingual accredited schools in the area if looking for that type of care. Lastly, The entire Spanish schoolhouse board of directors does not have a single verified educator at the table speaking for quality education and what that actually means- their CEO is a graphic designer and many on the board are business and operations minded sources of knowledge. Steer clear of Spanish schoolhouse!

My son is 4 but not yet potty trained. He's polite, gregarious, and laughs a lot. But, as a kid potentially on the spectrum, he will have melt downs. Usually a hug and a cracker will bring him back down to earth. We told all of this to the supervisor during our initial phone call and she said, "We definitely have openings, this won't be a problem. Why don't you come take a tour?" We scheduled one for that following Friday. We were toured by Soni (sp?) and it became clear that this would be a problem. She only talked about the gifted kids in the school and, when prompted to talk about the average kids, she shrugged and said, "We deal with them." We met the 4 year old class, all sitting quietly and coloring, while the teacher looked on. We were introduced as the parents of our son, "Who has special needs, so I don't know what to say to you." What does that even mean? My son was quiet and polite, if not a little shy, the whole tour. We left with the feeling that this wouldn't be a good fit. 5 days later, we received a voicemail from the supervisor saying, "We don't have the teachers to handle him or any openings." What happened to "this wouldn't be a problem"? What happened to the openings? It's as if, by some neuro divergent prejudice, our son magically became a problem. Do not send your kids here unless they are "perfect".
