So I attended a conference here so I can't speak for the rooms but overall a good experience even though there's clearly construction going on. The meeting facilities were great the staff made sure to keep everything clean, and since the meeting was with 300+ women they accommodated us by changing the main bathroom by the ballroom from a mens bathroom to one for women. So that was a plus. I stop short of 4 stars the valet parking process needs some improvement. I didn't realize I needed to pay at the front desk and was only told after I went outside. Then there were issues with their computer connection and I ended up having to pay in cash since it was taking forever to process my credit card, good thing I did get some cash which I don't often do. The location is in the middle of the city so its close to various attractions. read more

I'm going to go with five big red stars for the Richmond J-Dub. Recently stayed here for two nights during the Richmond Marathon weekend. My first delight comes from how ready this hotel was for a lot of guests presumably there for the weekend's running activities. They had giant tables of water set-up for all guests, info sheets with runner's interests and needs in mind, and a lot of staff on-hand to take care of the property. Very impressive. The W salon was exquisitely taken care of with snacks, coffee, seltzer, along with clean and comfortable chairs throughout. Staff was always so pleasant. Room was great. Comfortable bed, pleasant shampoo and soap, big tv, outlets and USBs all over. Excellent stay - would happily stay here if ever back in Richmond. read more

I knowingly stayed here during construction so some inconveniences were expected. There is currently no real lobby and the restaurant is more of a pop-up when space is available. The in-house Starbucks is operating like a kiosk. However, I did get to stay in one of the newly remodeled king rooms on the 16th floor. The furniture and finished are modern and very functional. The bathroom is really nice and includes a dual shower head/wand. The lighting in the room was bright yet soft and the shower light makes a good night light. A nice, clean hotel in a location convenient for walking to the convention center, newer and longstanding restaurants, and a few historic sites. The rooms are standard and relatively spacious -- ours had two queen beds, a small cabinet between the beds, a chair with a small table attached, a desk, a cabinet with a couple shelves and a drawer (on top of which was a tea caddy and a coffee maker / water heater [although the one in our room was without the pot]), and a good sized cabinet under the TV (within which was a refrigerator). Our room was pretty clean - there were some stains here and there on the carpet and shower curtain as befitting a well-used hotel. As others have said, the farmhouse door on the bathroom doesn't exactly seal, which was a bit odd to me but it was fine. The staff members across the board were friendly and helpful. As of November 2021, they were still following COVID protocols in regard to mask-wearing. The 5th & Marshall Parking garage is right across the street, and an air-conditioned pedestrian walkway on the 3rd floor (Blue level) connects the garage to the first floor of the Marriott. read more

Truly awful. You are looking at the "burnt ends" appetizer. $18 plus room service fee. It came like that! In a tub and no plate or cutlery. 20 blobs of pure fat. I was so grossed out I tried my husband's burger. Gristle. Too many yound men are working at car check-in but no one actually helps. My husband asks for a trolley, which doesn't come. The attendent in charge wants us to move the car but does nothing to help with luggage or trolley. Just stands there. Took ten minutes. I need aspirin and antibiotic. Your store doesn't have them! All check-in can say is order by Instart. More unnecessary fees. There is confusion at the front desk. The man who is to be supposed to be directing traffic is chatting with two other female attendants. When I get his attention he seems confused. Why is he there? No one offers to help us with luggage to room. We had asked for a tub. No tub not even for a titanium member. I turn on shower and cold water drenches me and clothes because cleaning staff left shower nozzle averted towards the room, not straight ahead. Nice hotel located right downtown. Huge lobby area. Nice waterfall right as you walk in as well as a bar/restaurant and a Starbucks as well. There were also ballrooms here. Front desk staff were super nice and polite. The rooms were nice as well. Decent sized and clean. Coffee maker and fridges as well. Comfortable beds. Alex service laundry as well, coin operated as well as a machine to buy soap and fabric softener. There was also a snack shop in the lobby with detergent as well. read more

My husband spent the weekend at the Marriott for a conference, and was treated rudely by valet staff, dealt with condescension at check-in, and then went looking for "breakfast concessions" the next morning and was mistaken for being part of another conference...he was told to help himself to coffee while food was prepared, then when the staff member realized the mistake, the coffee cup was TAKEN FROM MY HUSBAND'S HAND, crumpled and thrown away! We are very kind and easy-to-please people. We have never experienced a hotel treating us like an inconvenience before. Our group will not be choosing this hotel again. read more

Enjoyed a single night and working morning at this Marriott in Richmond. My room was spacious (except the bathrooms are very small--something to consider if you have a travel companion, which I did not). No complaints about the hotel as it was in a convenient downtown location and offered everything I needed--clean bed/pillows. The hotel offers the kind of business traveler quality you would expect from the Marriott brand. I would/will certainly stay here again. read more

It's not perfect, but this is Richmond so it's not like there are great hotels around every corner. The Marriott is a large (18 story) convention hotel (literally across the street from the Convention Center) but it's generally comfortable and the service is very good plus they have a hotel bar. A pretty generic sports bar with okay food but they have a hotel bar! On a number of stays I've been annoyed by an HVAC system that didn't really work, and a fitted sheet that wouldn't stay on the bed, and a few other minor things but overall it's a decent hotel and the beds are pretty comfortable. Location is good for many and there are some very nice restaurants nearby which is a big plus. Not my favorite hotel in the world, but definitely one of my favorites in Richmond, I'm a fan. read more

Just attended the Property and Liability Resource Bureau Conference. The meeting rooms and breakfasts were on the conference level and the huge trade show was one level up via the escalator. The meeting rooms were fine, but I ran into some issues. There was a definite noise problem from some of the adjacent meeting rooms through the movable walls, and in one case we heard a lot of pots and pans clattering and workers chattering from a kitchen on the other side of the double doors in our room. I also felt some of the rooms were freezing cold. The conference included a cocktail hour reception, 2 continental breakfasts and 2 lunches. The meals were fine and so was the service. All in all, I had a very nice conference experience here. read more

Dirty dump, avoid at all costs. Checked into the hotel, because of Covid and a bunch of people checking in so the elevator line went all the way through the lobby to the front door when we went to go up. Then we get to the room and open the fold out couch, we had 3 kids with us so needed it) and it was covered in food crumbs. I checked the closet to see if we have any sheets or blankets and pillows. We had 1 pillow on the shelf and an empty bag I would guess is supposed to hold extra blankets, etc. It took me 30 minutes to get someone on the phone to try to get new sheets blankets, etc. after 10 PM, a lady from security came to our bed with 1 sheet. I asked what about the blankets and fitted sheet for the fold out couch. She said everything I need should be in the closet. So I pulled out the bag with nothing in it and she said the hotel doesn't have anymore blankets. How does this big old hotel have no blankets?!?! So she said she would try to find more sheets so 10 minutes later came back with 2 more sheets, since that's all they have. She left to see if she could find anything else, she was trying, but when she has this hotel to work with her hands are tied. About 10 minutes later she came back with something a little bigger than a sheet. She thought it was possibly a comforter, she found it in a box and said maybe if we leave it out for a while it would puff up again. Still not clean, but when a hotel treats you like a homeless person, you have to take what you get. I have stayed in lots of hotels, but this is by far the worst! We can't use the extra pillow from the closet because it was sitting on the shelf freely not in the bag so it's probably dirty which disgusts us so we just sacrificed one of our pillows from the bed. I took some pictures of the crumbs but with the poor room lighting, not the end of world, but wide pics were just to blurry. But just to give you an idea of the tons of crumbs on the bed, here is one closeup. Moral of the story, stay at the Hilton across the street not as convenient, but seeing this dump, I think people stay here just because of the walkways to the convention center. We fell for it, so I am trying to save you. read more

I never leave reviews for big chain hotels because for the most part, you know what you're getting. That is also true for the Richmond Marriot - you get what you expect. Big hotel, generally generic furnishings, and reliable quality. HOWEVER During a covid-visit I was shocked & deeply impressed at the customer service. The front desk is now handling everything - extra towels, extra coffee, anything you can think of, and they're handling it with aplomb. Eager to be helpful & genuinely kind. That is not what I would expect from a big chain... The rooms seem to have been recently renovated & I have to say, the bed was COMFORTABLE. Like sleeping beauty comfortable... Update: I initially gave this a 4-star rating because I personally think 5 stars should be saved for small businesses who need the extra help but thinking about it, that's not how the internet works anymore so the service here warrants the 5 stars... I hope they keep it up after covid. read more

Overall, our stay was just ok. I must say I wasn't impressed by any means about this property. The only highlight was the sports bar inside the hotel that stays open until 2am. Check-in was fast and easy. But the rep didn't display an over the top customer service attitude. No welcoming smile, a friendly small talk...nothing. It was basically robot like..name, id, method of payment, a few rules, points to cover, room key etc... the basics. I was like ummmm ok. This hotel was super busy on a Friday night. A few events were taking place this night and the next day a cheering competition. It was a lot going on here. There is no hot tub here. The rooms are pretty standard. For the price paid, I was a little disappointed overall. I may think twice again before booking again. Only because I felt this was less than the Awesomeness Marriott properties usually offer. Although I live in richmond my sons graduation was downtown so we had family at the Marriott and got ready there. Excellent service. Clean rooms. Great on site facilities. Staff was extremely friendly - and made a point multiple times to recognize my elite status with marriotts (which some hotels never mention). Club lounge was very nice. Good free food and snacks (alcohol you do pay for). Overall recommend highly. read more

I imagine that some of the negative reviews are due to the construction nearby or within the Marriott. Personally, I barely noticed it (or even heard it) and had a pleasant experience at this location. I mainly explored the city throughout the weekend so I was barely in the hotel during my stay anyways. I will say that parking is a little inconvenient since I did not choose the valet option since the nearby garages offered cheaper rates. The garage parking can still be a little pricey but that's out of their hands especially if you're in the city. I did hear that street parking may be free at night or on the weekends but you may want to call and confirm beforehand. Overall, great experience and I would stay again whenever I visit the Richmond area. read more

I stayed in this hotel for a work meeting. This was a pretty nice Marriott for an older building. There were about 12 floors with a restaurant, bar and starbucks in the hotel. The rooms were nice, clean typical furnishings for a Marriott. They did have a Smart TV which was great! I loved watching netflix while going to bed and not having to deal with cable tv. The only negative with the room is that the water pressure was on the low side... I was in town for a work meeting with over 700 people at the meeting. Although all them did not stay in the hotel, as the Richmond market went home. However, Marriott did a great job at check in. Instead of long lines and a slow check in process, they had a tables set up and you could just walk up to the table that had your facility and grab the key. That was a 1000% improvement over last year. Plus valet parking did a nice job managing the mass exodus as well. This hotel has a shuttle that will take you to area breweries, restaurants and probably a bunch of other locations. The shuttle was quick and very nice. We used it to get to a few spots and it made getting around much easier! read more

Updated review: I actually spoke to the managers (my name isn't Karen but I played her role this am ) Matthew and Sonny and they were both great and accommodating and understanding. They said that this was atypical and due to a dance thing that was supposed to cancel. I appreciated their response and the efforts they made. I'll give this place another chance as I come to work at MCV often and this is the hotel I'd usually choose Not in a rush to ever come back here. Nothing is open except this Starbucks. The hotel is totally full. The lines are super long for the elevators Room service doesn't open until 530pm. There is nowhere nearby open to get coffee. This is the Starbucks line (only place open in the hotel) which I've heard takes an hour. My advice: stay somewhere that doesn't sell out the hotel yet opens nothing. I get Covid and precautions. Don't sell out the hotel then. Plain and simple. Either open up so you can take care of the people that are paying to stay here or allow less people in the hotel. And before you all comment with a nasty gram that there is "coffee in the room", you should try it first. It's gross. I've attached a picture. I'm pretty sure one of the "creamers" is bad and I'm afraid to drink it. read more

I had a four night stay at this hotel for business, and my boyfriend came along as a "staycation" for him while I worked. The stay didn't start off very well, but Tamika got things turned around quickly once I talked to her about it. When I first checked in, I was told I had been automatically been upgraded, thanks to my Platinum Rewards status. But then when I went to the room, it was apparent no upgrading at all had happened. It was definitely a base level room, with a smaller bedroom and extremely small bathroom area. I went back to the front desk, and another employee told me that it appeared I did have a base-level room and she apologized and suggested I try again the next day to see if one of the upgraded rooms might have opened up after checkouts. When I came back downstairs the next morning, Tamika was friendly and responsive and ended up making sure that my boyfriend and I had a much better room, and that upgraded our whole experience at the Marriott and changed our trip for the better. I have a lot of extra stuff in my room when I travel on business, and I appreciated having a little more room for that as well as for my boyfriend to relax a bit on his staycation. We met so many friendly, helpful staff members -- Tamika, Richard, Dante in the Starbucks. We're grateful for everyone who helped make our trip to Richmond a good one. This Marriott is a good choice in the downtown Richmond area for business. We also appreciated the good service in the concierge lounge. (I think it was Dawn who helped me get my favorite sparking water there?). The area where the hotel is seems to be undergoing a bit of a renaissance, which is nice to see. We walked over to Rappahannock bar/restaurant and that area has some nice eating/drinking choices. Props to the business owners who are doing so much work to restore that area of Richmond. read more

Absolutely one of the best Marriot Hotels! The newly remodeled downstairs and club are amazing. The staff, as always, was super friendly and helpful. I felt like an old friend visiting. You can tell the management really cares about the quality of the guest's stay and comfort. If you stay anywhere else in Richmond you will be disappointed. Oh, and did I mention the in-house gym-it's as good as any commercial gym. Really nice stay, safe, comfortable, great price, great food, what more could you want? read more

I had to be in Richmond early Tuesday after a Labor Day weekend in the OBX. I didn't want to drive all the way back to NoVa...the idea of Labor Day Monday traffic just made me tired thinking about it. I got a great rate staying here for the Monday night and was very pleased with the ease of entry to the hotel, valet parking and check-in, it was pretty effortless. I really like they had a Starbucks in the lobby that opens at 6am, and they had a nice fresh bold Italian roast which went down nice and smooth. My only complaint was the valet parking was $27 bucks, just a little steep when you consider there is so much available public parking near by because of the proximity to the convention center. I would have self parked but was just so worn out, I just wanted to get checked in and get some rest. The room was comfortable, they put me on the 8th floor so it was quiet and the king bed was very nice. read more

Stayed here over the weekend and overall was disappointed with the place. Service was good but the quality of the room was poor and the cleaning left me extremely unhappy. I walked into my room to find hairs in the shower that would be hard to miss. Additionally, I was woken up at 3 something in the morning to loud conversations coming from another room. Of the downtown Richmond Marriott properties this is my favorite. Great service (shout out to Matthew Bonnet), best location, cleanest and newest feeling of the Marriott hotels... Although I primarily stay here for business this would also be my stop if I had a more personal reason to be in the area. We just spent one night at the Downtown Marriott, a Saturday. The rooms were clean and nice and decent size (not large, but decent). There was a large couch by the window - liked that. The staff was very nice a cooperative. Unfortunately there were only 2 of 4 elevators working and this was when the hotel was sold out for a Karate tournament, so at times you had to wait almost 20 minutes to get an elevator, and then one of the 2 remaining had door problems were it would open and close numerous times before it finally stayed closed. Odd situation with the bar: you could not order a dinner meal at the bar even though the bar was connected to the restaurant - that was new for me! Also, $38 for valet parking, come on, that's pretty steep. read more

The awful: What conference hotel has a restaurant that is only open at night? In addition, the only option for breakfast was the Starbucks pre-packaged stuff. We stayed her for a conference held in the hotel. It was a very comfortable experience. The hotel was nice and clean. Our room was very comfortable and a pretty view of the city! The facilities for the conference were comfortable. I really noted the friendliness of all the staff we encountered! This trip was a Saturday check in and Sunday check out. This particular Marriott was disappointing to me. I travel a great deal and generally stay at Marriott. The pool here is shallow and small, the lining is coming up on the bottom and there is no hot tub. The room has no safe, or standard information book so if you want to know anything, you have to go downstairs to the concierge desk and ask. I selected this particular Marriott for the club access(concierge lounge) and it was also disappointing. The chairs could definitely use some updating. The only snacks were oranges, some apples and yogurt. There was bottled water, sodas, coffee, teabags, and milk for drink selection. However, I grabbed a whole milk and found it was curdled after having a sip. When I looked, the expiry date had passed. Other club lounges I have experienced had chips, cookies, granola bars etc. as snack options. I have to mention however, the breakfast buffet on Sunday Morning was wonderful! There was a nice selection of pastries, the fruit was replenished and looked more fresh. Rita was very welcoming and helpful. The shower bar in my room was put in wrong, so I didn't get that "roomy" feeling you're supposed to get with the curved bar. The views are nice, but the windows are dirty, so hard to enjoy that. The staff is wonderful and friendly. The bar has a great selection and the food from the restaurant is good. read more
